Vertigo: Super Person Ball

Racing. Sci Fi. Labyrinth levels. Balancing. Upgrades. Balance. Human bowling. Playlogic's Vertigo doesn't look like the greatest game ever or anything, but it's damned weird. "Upgrade your Xorb, seek hidden shortcuts and collect power ups to help you survive, to become the fastest and most envied Xorber in the Universe!" How can you not get excited? They pretty much just told us to get excited.

Games like Vertigo, which is slated for both PC and Wii before the end of the year, raise interesting questions. If the controls are decent, particularly with the Balance Board -- which Vertigo supports -- does it become worthwhile? What does something like this really need?

Only if it's as good a control system as Kororinpa.

If this is "Mouse -> Wii" it probably won't be.

I'll tell you exactly what it needs. Polish! Mercury Meltdown and Kororinpa were both great games that just needed a little bit more time in the oven. Ball control mechanics are perfectly suited the Wii remote, so the game itself just needs to be good looking (not great, just not boring), the controls need to be flawless (both games I mentioned were pretty close on this one), and the game itself just needs a little depth and length. Puzzles are fun, and the Wii remote was born for games like this. Do it right, Playlogic. Finish the game before you release it.
