Watch Bungie's big reveal: A teaser for Halo 3 campaign expansion
Our patience and faith in Bungie was sort of rewarded today when the company closed its overnight countdown by releasing a reveal trailer for ... something. Honestly, it's going to take some digging from you fans before we have any idea what's going on here. There's a metropolitan disaster, there are pods dropping from the sky, and then a mention of Halo 3, along with the tag line, "Prepare to drop."
What does it all mean? Watch for yourself and then you tell us! Or, if still pictures are your thing, check out the gallery here.
[Update: The video info on Xbox Live: "High action and deep mystery await players in this new Halo 3 campaign experience. Prepare to drop." Thanks to reader Paul M.]

No Idea what that was about.... Please someone help
Sloar @ Sep 25th 2008 10:24AM
It's a new WALL*E game! Yes! Thank the gaming gods!
Michael Belong @ Sep 25th 2008 10:34AM
It could be the playable game version of or similar to the Halo comic series where that civilian guy is on Earth when the Covenant invade looking for the key.
madshafter @ Sep 25th 2008 10:35AM
Tired of this cryptic BS!
Let's just go along with the rumor that came out months back that they are making a squad based ODST game and be done with this. And I can't believe this is what they pulled from E3. Lame.
Shmil (Mr ESC Liberation Front) @ Sep 25th 2008 10:40AM
You idiots its the cloverfield monster!
Duke @ Sep 25th 2008 11:13AM
I'm hoping for what Michael Belong mentioned.
I have to admit, I played through Halo 3 and then walked away from it pretty quick. The MP just wasn't my style. However, this teaser gets me excited to pick it up again.
Lone Starr @ Sep 25th 2008 11:51AM
Sloar,
That's EXACTLY what I was thinking.
Obie @ Sep 25th 2008 10:15AM
I swear to God, Bungie and their cryptic bullshit really pisses me off sometimes. If this is gonna be another "I love Bee's" guessing game, I am gonna play something else. No time for this.
John @ Sep 25th 2008 10:15AM
No idea what it is...there's teaser trailer then there's a teaser trailer so teaserish that it teases too much!
Steven @ Sep 25th 2008 10:16AM
Aah....
:D
It looks good, whatever it's for.
Jayslacks @ Sep 25th 2008 10:17AM
The only thing I can think of is an expansion pack for the Campaign. Sort of like Hal-Life episodes. I'm sure people will say I'm wrong. If you have a better idea, please share. But this is way too much work and waiting just for multiplayer maps every Halo fan will be without question. Now, back to waiting...
SilverFireshot @ Sep 25th 2008 10:23AM
That was certainly my guess.
Antagonist @ Sep 25th 2008 10:23AM
Open the pod bay doors, HAL.
I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.
What's the problem?
I think you know what the problem is just as well as I do.
What are you talking about, HAL?
This mission is too important for me to allow you to jeopardize it.
I don't know what you're talking about, HAL?
I know you and Frank were planning to disconnect me, and I'm afraid that's something I cannot allow to happen.
Where the hell'd you get that idea, HAL?
Dave, although you took thorough precautions in the pod against my hearing you, I could see your lips move.
Cyro @ Sep 25th 2008 10:57AM
It could also be a take on The ODST's Hell Jumpers point of view of when New Mombasa got invaded in Halo 2.
What freaks me out is the fact that at the end of the teaser you can see a single pod drop. Who can it be ?!?!
Now we have to wait....:/
deaftly @ Sep 25th 2008 10:59AM
ROC: Voice interface.
Elaine Dickinson: There's an overheat in the core. Please analyze problem.
ROC: There is no apparent overheat.
Elaine Dickinson: Yes, there is, ROC. We read a core overheat. Repeat analysis.
ROC: Analysis confirmed. All systems compute positive.
Elaine Dickinson: Well, not from where I'm sitting, they don't!
ROC: Look, Elaine. Cut the "not from where I'm sitting" shit. It must be a human error.
AlphaOneZero @ Sep 25th 2008 10:17AM
"prepare to drop"? sounds like the ODST's from Halo to me, they dropped from in amber clad in halo 2 from drop pods, and seeing as ODST stands for 'orbital DROP shock troopers", this sounds like that 3rd person ODST shooter ive been hearing rumors about
still dling the teaser atm though, but my money is on that
xGeneral DEATHx @ Sep 25th 2008 10:21AM
My guess is ODST's, as well...perhaps you play the part of an ODST who's fighting the losing battle on Earth?
Jakka(A tribute to whose who fought and failed during the Epic Flamewar of L.A. Noir) @ Sep 25th 2008 10:29AM
The fact that you didn't fight the battle for Earth in Halo 3 in first place was something that really ruined the campaign for me.
What kind of a sick fuck releases a canon story comic book tie-in between Halo 2 and Halo 3?What are the intentions behind leaving 95% of gamers, who don't buy the fucking book, with a missing story gap?
Anyway, can't wait for this game.
343 Guilty Fart @ Sep 25th 2008 11:07AM
Am I the only one who thought it meant 'Prepare to drop Halo 3', as in this next game will be so impressive that we'll 'drop Halo 3'?
Duke @ Sep 25th 2008 11:43AM
I think you're the only one. This is an add-on pack for Halo 3, so you would need to be playing Halo 3 to use it. In essence - it is Halo 3 still.
Taylor @ Sep 25th 2008 10:17AM
ODST squad based combat game? Prepare to drop seems to refer to ODSTs almost exclusively. Seems like the likely path to take. It's not an MC game but still in the Halo universe. I wait with anticipation for more.
Alvin @ Sep 25th 2008 10:18AM
(sigh)
Bill @ Sep 25th 2008 10:18AM
leave it up to bungie...gotta love it, im thinking tactical shooter, the HUD reminded me of GRAW, but you never know with bungie
ed @ Sep 25th 2008 11:45AM
You never know with Bungie?
Can I take a guess that it's going to be... a SHOOTER?! and form part of the Marathon/Halo mythology?!?!
Come on they're the most oblique and predictable studio going. It's more a question of what variation of shooter they're going to do, right.*
*See I didn't even put a question mark. It wasn't a question or something I was seeking approval with. It was a statement of biblical proportions.
Demos16 @ Sep 25th 2008 10:18AM
A game revolving around ODST perhaps?
Andersen's @ Sep 25th 2008 10:18AM
It seems to me as this is the planet where we seen Master Chief and Cortana heading towards at the end of Halo 3. Which could make sense of the tagline "Prepare To Drop".
ExMcloud @ Sep 25th 2008 10:19AM
Im goin with Halo Recon....A side story of Halo 3 with a group of UNSC soldiers doing random missions...And Im assuming that this will be goin on during Halo 3 when Chief is going to stop the High Priest. Thats my best guess?
DeLarge @ Sep 25th 2008 10:19AM
RRRRRAAAAAAAAAAHHHWWWWWRRRRR Keep It clean
Stevo @ Sep 25th 2008 10:19AM
This has to be a campaign expansion to Halo 3.
Think about it-- they added achivements with skulls-- you don't put skulls in Multiplayer Maps.
Master Chief is found in space and returned to truly Finish the Fight.
ExMcloud @ Sep 25th 2008 10:24AM
Wow that actually makes sense...Way better than my Halo Recon idea......Hmmm...That would mean Bungie planned on having that Legendary ending just to make an expansion...I like the way you think.
cerilli @ Sep 25th 2008 10:44AM
The only thing is that there is an achievement for finding the hidden skull on Assembly, which we've already seen is a multiplayer map. Unless they're just trying to mislead us...
Hot$auce_Magik @ Sep 25th 2008 11:00AM
/agree with the expansion pack idea. Mayhaps you play as a UNSC soldier during the time that MC is doin his thing.
I guess it could come after halo 3 but i don't think they would start a whole new story line without MC...or would they??????
Ryan @ Sep 25th 2008 10:20AM
it's a new Starship Troopers Game!!!!
xGeneral DEATHx @ Sep 25th 2008 10:22AM
The bugs are back...prepare for attack.
ill trooper @ Sep 25th 2008 6:13PM
"I'm from Rio de Janeiro and I say KILL 'EM ALL!"
On a side note, that Halo logo is lookin' old and creaky... Horizontal extended type? Matches the old and creaky chanting chorus+"rockin'" guitar music I suppose.
Dirty @ Sep 25th 2008 10:20AM
cock teases
Xoviet chiK @ Sep 25th 2008 10:20AM
"Halo 3" "Prepare to Drop"
Makes me think playing as ODST on Earth during the events of Halo 3. Though that omnipresent Superintendent and the "Keep it Clean" line completely throw any accurate speculation out the window. Can't wait to see more, I loves the Bungie!
madshafter @ Sep 25th 2008 10:21AM
I'm gunna say ODST. It's the only thing that makes sense.
j.howlett @ Sep 25th 2008 10:21AM
uhmm. while the military deals with the crisis you clean up the mess like in wall-e
Michael Belong @ Sep 25th 2008 10:29AM
That sounds like the greatest Halo 3 game ever. I'll tell you what, I think Iraq needs a couple Wall-E's as well.
Cole Mullenbach @ Sep 25th 2008 10:21AM
I agree with the ODST game rumored... Not sure what the halo 3 reference is about tho... unless it takes place during the same time frame as Halo 3... whatever it is im pretty excited for the idea of seeing a new part of the halo universe in game form
Zento @ Sep 25th 2008 10:22AM
Yeah, no idea what was going in this. Are they saying they're "preparing to drop something for Halo 3", this project will "make us drop Halo 3" in favor for this, or what? If it is something for Halo 3, its gotta be either that campaign expansion there were rumors about before or a new game that takes place parallel to Halo 3, ala Crysis Warhead. The only way I could see this being related to multiplayer was if they will be trying to release like 10 or 20 new maps at the same time.
deaftly @ Sep 25th 2008 10:23AM
Good call.
Andersen's @ Sep 25th 2008 10:23AM
Bungie needs to stop watching J.J. Abrams projects. Its too much guesswork. I hope this doesnt turn out to be a 90 ft toad/lizard from space.
Taylor @ Sep 25th 2008 10:24AM
Actually, just thought of something. The planet in question could be Harvest, hence why it looks like an evacuated city. Could be an ODST game revolving around the events of Harvest. A Johnson specific story? Let the speculation begin!
beckerist @ Sep 25th 2008 10:29AM
For those who don't know: http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/ODST#Operations
I'm thinking...could this be the 3rd person GRAW style shooter? Tactical drops on destroyed cities with...JANITORS!!!
waves @ Sep 25th 2008 10:39AM
The city is New Mombasa. It says (briefly) so in the video.
madshafter @ Sep 25th 2008 10:24AM
Eh... ODST. I'm gunna say Meh.
beckerist @ Sep 25th 2008 10:25AM
I think it could be a map pack, a true map or story editor (hence the need for "keep it clean,") or maybe just maybe an expansion pack (new campaign levels!!!) That would be wicked fun, and would explain some of the skull achievements AND why there were so many different "levels" achievements (when there are only 3 each in their previous map packs.)
Neal Megaw @ Sep 25th 2008 10:25AM
13 seconds into the trailer there is a sign that says "City Of NEW MOMBASA" wasn't that a city in halo 3? maybe this is a prequel to halo 3? or the events after it?
dam you bungie dam you all!!! =D
