Jack Thompson disbarred in Florida

"While I know a lot of people in the industry truly dislike Jack, I hope people show a bit of respect for a man who has just lost his livelihood."

Well excuse me for not having any respect for someone who blatantly lied to try to get his way! Awww, poor Jacky lost his livelihood. Boo-fuckin'-hoo! I'm pretty sure he'll be financially OK considering he was a lawyer and all. With that in mind, it is impossible for me to give a shit that he lost is livelihood!

Given how many warnings, fines, and notices he has gotten over the years I can't comprehend how anyone could be sympathetic to this man, even if they were to agree with his anti-videogame stance. The truth is he violated the rules of his occupation, repeatedly and seriously.

I have to say i'm in agreement with those who choose not to feel sympathy for Mr. Thompson. This wasn't a simple mistake on his part, this wasn't an isolated event that got blown out of proportion, this was a man who was making a mockery of the Judicial System and is being punished accordingly, I know that as gamers, we only recently caught wind of his antics, but he's been doing this for a long, long time. He had a number of opportunities to reform and not be bat-shit crazy, and chose to ignore those.

I don't think that we should celebrate as gamers, I think that we should celebrate as people who wish to see people like this taken out of our systems, be it judicial, political, or any other relevant system. The fact that he was crusading against my hobby and livelihood only exists as a bonus to the fact that the safeguards and procedures put in place to keep people like him from practicing law have been effective.

In response to whether he can take the bar in other states, more than likely he is already a member of the bar in other states now. The truth of the matter is that this will be reportable disciplnie, and most of the other states have statutes that allow them to fashion similar discipline (disbarment) based on his Florida problems. Basically when one state gets mad, they tell all of the others.

who cares... He's probably a rich trial lawyer and he's older, so he's probably got a ton of $$ stashed away anyway.

I could not imagine being so happy as hearing this Jackoff Thompson news. Hoorah. To all those who are worried about it not being the end of public Jackoffs, you're right, but it won't be so bad now that he's disbarred. The incessant whiny legal briefs that makes him so infamous will not happen, which is an improvement. Instead, he'll be pushing other lawyers, probably through some kind of non-profit or something, to do the same. They will be deterred from being nearly as big of a douche bag as he has been because of his disbarment, and it will be hard for him to find lawyers that are as anti-game as he is and as big of a douch bag as he is, meaning the work of that non-profit would be respectable instead of laughable.

This.. is a day.. that will live.. forever in the hearts and minds of gamers for all of history.

If the man didn't want to lose his livelihood, he shouldn't have tried to manipulate the law to support his conservative ideals. He has been a pest to the legal community for decades. I'm not sure in what other states he is licensed, but I hope those states find similar issues with his crusading and media whoring and remove him from any position of legal authority.

I wish I could feel sorry for Jacky T... but I simply cannot.

Not because as a gamer, I felt he was a "threat" to the interactive entertainment industry... but because he made a complete mockery of the legal system and what it means to be a lawyer.

Seriously, he blew things way out of proportions, and acted childish all along the way. Even when people tried to play along with his outrageous demands, he still ranted and raved.

Regardless of how he got his degree in law, he's completely unfit for the position, and I will not shed a tear of compassion for him.

Given that Jack Thompson has made a career out of trying to destroy other people's livelihoods and has been disbarred for trying to ruin innocent people's lives, why is it that we should have any respect for this cretin?

He has gotten only a small taste of what he deserves for what he has done. If he was going to wind up begging for change on the street I might feel a little sorry for him, but he'll be just fine. The only difference will be that he'll have to continue his harassment as an ordinary citizen, now.

This sooooo is old news to me, in the sense that I figured it was overwhelmingly obvious and inevitable that this would happen, so that when it actually occurred, it would not be the least bit surprising, nor would I pay it any mind.

(Although, sometimes I think that certain gamers need a little kick in the butt by ol'Jack from time to time.)
