I wonder what the Braid Patch is for? I found the game was pretty solid.

All I ask for is more delicious levels... mmm... levels...

"I know your stance on a PS3 or Wii release of Braid, but have you ever considered putting it on a portable console?"

I haven't followed Blow's previous interviews, what is his stance on the WiiWare or PSN?

ok not sure either, and would also like to know. At least we know that us non-360 owners will be able to play a PC version, but I would personally like a game like this on my PS3 instead.

Anybody know?

I believe he has said that he was turned down by Sony early in development (as he had nothing to show them, so they were playing it safe) and that it would not be possible on Wii due to Storage limitations.

The patch itself is for a very few problems mentioned on the Braid News page: http://braid-game.com/news/. Something about a demo mode? I think there's also a problem where two puzzle pieces can overlap each other? I read it a while ago, so I may not be 100% right here.

He's not saying anything about PSN. Let's face it, MS surely paid for (home console) exclusivity. I know Sony would have if they had this game. In the case of PSN, many of these smaller game's dev costs are paid by Sony, and thus they get lifetime exclusivity. With this guy moaning about the dev costs, I wouldn't be surprised to hear MS assisted him.

He said Braid is a timed exclusive(obviously since it's coming out on PC soon) and would have to talk to Sony before anything official can be said about a PSN/PSP release. He said the WiiWare and DS would be unfit for Braid and for Braid to made on those consoles it would have to be totally redone. Well unless they made a Braid a full-fledged Wii release and not downloadable. I think there's some shovel ware out there that's like 500MB. I highly doubt that, unless Nintendo demands it and pays lots of cash.
I'd still buy Braid on any console, as long it's just as good as or better than the XBLA version(obviously the Wii or PSP can't do HD though).

"Fewer games like that are being made these days -- an awful lot of games are just about ushering the player through a fake experience, letting him win, making him feel like he is clever and strong without actually requiring him to be anything but a couch potato. I'm not interested in playing those games, and as a result of that (and other long-term design trends) these days there aren't many games that I enjoy"

One question the interviewer failed to ask: have all of the secrets in Braid been discovered? Finding the eight stars was a nice surprise, but you get the impression their may be something else that has remained undiscovered.

Just as a stray observation, I have never understood why "postmortem" is used in this way. Wouldn't it make more sense to use "postpartum"?

Excuse me. That's always bugged me.

Postpartum refers to a period of time immediately after birth.

Postmortem refers to an occurrence or act after death.

Postmortem is probably a more accurate way of describing what the articles are about, as the developer is looking over the life span of the game and commenting on what happened leading up to its release. Also, postmortem sounds a lot better

Not to derail this too much, but the game isn't dead. It's launched. I've heard "postmortem" used all the time to describe the analysis of a product that has finished its development and launched into the world. That's a good deal more like birth than death. (Unless you're talking about the N-Gage, that is.)

Anyway, I'll grant you that "postmortem" rolls more easily off the tongue.

If he wants to be an artist he should go paint a picture or something. I just want to play a damn fun and interesting game. Who cares if it's art or not?

Well, everyone that hopes for the long-term success of the medium should hope that games are eventually appreciated as art. I personally think that there are a handful of games that have already reached that pinnacle.
Of course, not all games have to be art, just like not all books, movies, music and drawings are art. Some things are just fun and that's fine, but every once in a while it's nice to interact with something that transcends the traditional borders and challenges a part of yourself. That's what art does and everyone saying that games can't do that is in denial.

Denis Dyack syndrome. Also, he used a lot of big words and referred to some obscure books, concepts, etc. Also didn't you play that demo? It plays just like Mario with time-rewind. Also he hates WoW and other games that reward your patience more than your mental dexterity.

Plus the game only takes 5 hours to beat and costs $15, zOMG ripoff! Even though many of us gladly paid $8 to spend 2-3 hours watching The Dark Knight in a theater full of assholes who don't know they should shut up/turn phones off and we don't even get to keep it, paying $15 for a game is ridiculous.

I just pity the ones never play the game.
They don't even know what they are missing.
Portal is $20 on Steam, it takes about the same time to beat.
It's one of those games about the experience not replayability.

It's a free market, the man can set whatever price he wants.

I wonder, though, why he always goes out of his way to mention Space Giraffe. :-/ One more way to recoup those dev costs?

Especially when you consider that he's talk about Super Mario meets Prince of Persia meets Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Not terribly original or mind blowing, really.

And not only does he come across as a pretentious dick, he makes the people he's talking with indulge in some pseudo-intellectualism of their own (much less so, predictably, from down-to-earth Joystiq). It's contagious. There's a yearning on the part of the gaming culture for games to be recognized alongside film, music, and the visual arts, and this causes them to adopt the same pompous preening that affects so many enthusiasts of these media. Every art form attracts its egotists and their enablers; we're just starting to see this over the past year or so in the gaming world.

It's nice that he gave as much info as he's allowed to indie devs, but it could've been done without getting so goddamn bitchy. Yeah, no one knew what they were talking about because they couldn't be bothered to look up the numbers, the taxes, blah blah blah. It's the internet, everyone has an opinion about everything. Get over it.
