Faith-based: 2D Mirror's Edge trailer shows origin story
It's no secret that we're a fan of these trailers; in fact, the only thing we can really take umbrage with here is this: they're making us pine for a "cel-shading" option in Mirror's Edge. C'mon, DICE – how hard could it be? Just click that "cel-shading" box on your game-making tool. Done!

I think I'd like to play this version of the game more than the real version.
cpt crunchie @ Sep 26th 2008 6:48PM
does anybody know which album and/or song they use in the trailers? i dont want to just buy all thats on itunes willy nilly.
Misfit Toy @ Sep 26th 2008 10:47PM
I already plan to pick this up. What I can't decide is, do I get the PS3 or 360 version?
Xoviet chiK @ Sep 26th 2008 3:39PM
You let out the most important part of that trailer "Trailer Music by Solar Fields"
Finally know who's behind all that awesomeness! Good stuff.
Xoviet chiK @ Sep 26th 2008 3:40PM
*left out* - Sorry!
Snackbar @ Sep 26th 2008 3:51PM
I flipped out when I saw that too! Commence buying!
mutd1999 @ Sep 26th 2008 5:39PM
Wooo! Thanks for pointing that out, I missed that.
Bellerophon @ Sep 26th 2008 7:07PM
Finally... Solar Fields! The remix is absolutely awesome.
As is the original, check it out if you haven't already: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=wp1WY2ldjxE
Red Leader @ Sep 26th 2008 3:43PM
That story sounds oddly familiar. Oh wait, it's the same storyline we've been playing every game this entire generation.
Xoviet chiK @ Sep 26th 2008 3:47PM
I thought Beautiful Katamari was about a tennis match gone awry?
Snackbar @ Sep 26th 2008 3:52PM
I thought Viva Pinata was about raising a garden of living candy-organed beasts?
Red Leader @ Sep 26th 2008 3:54PM
I meant games that matter.
syrik zero @ Sep 26th 2008 3:56PM
Mario Galaxies is about a Princess being kidnapped
Xoviet chiK @ Sep 26th 2008 4:00PM
"For more enjoyment and greater efficiency, consumption is being standardized. We are sorry"
If they are all built from the same tired drivel, do any of them really matter?
I'm afraid you've had a rather piss poor sampling of this generation.
Red Leader @ Sep 26th 2008 4:06PM
-facepalm-
Anyone who argues that this storyline isn't tired already is just in denial.
AoE @ Sep 26th 2008 4:16PM
@Red Leader,
I... don't recall the totalitarian government portion of GTA IV, please refresh my memory.
Edog Lost @ Sep 26th 2008 4:18PM
or maybe you are in denial
syrik zero @ Sep 26th 2008 4:19PM
Red Leader, you crashed and burned.
Red Leader @ Sep 26th 2008 4:30PM
@ AoE
It's mentioned in the secret website on the computer. Read between the lines man.
required @ Sep 26th 2008 4:38PM
Red Leader, I think you're confusing this story line with the current US administration.
Red Leader @ Sep 26th 2008 4:42PM
@ required
That's half right. That message has been in a lot of recent games. Assasin's Creed and Bioshock for example.
Chris Are @ Sep 26th 2008 5:12PM
Everybody's giving this guy shit for exaggerating (I can't understand you when you exaggerate! 1000 Firefighters?! That is WAY TOO MANY Firefighters! Is anyone on the hoses?!) but his point is being ignored- this has been a common plot since the late 90s.
I'll wait for reviews of the game, but even w/ the common plot I think this'll be a purchase for me.

@ Xoviet Chick
As far as I remember, it was about the King of the Universe getting really stoned, fucking up the entire universe than asking his smurf-sized son to clean up the mess.
Also to the OP, good luck finding a story that ISN'T Cliched at one point or another...
syrik zero @ Sep 26th 2008 6:01PM
Chris Are,
I watched Vicious Circle today! Dane is funny
Lavat @ Sep 26th 2008 3:51PM
Jumping over rooftops while running away from all the action? I will not be pleased until I have a big gun and am killing alot of people....Scrap this and lets see Army of Three.
syrik zero @ Sep 26th 2008 3:58PM
I'm a fan of sneaking and stealth games. Have to find a way around conflict. I think it's more challenging and exciting.
Erluti @ Sep 26th 2008 3:58PM
That animation was sweet! I'd rather them just have an animated film with some spicy action like Section B-13. I'm really not into the game, but the animation is cool!
Also, her split-toe shoes bug the crap out of me. I'd be less annoyed if she wore crocs.
syrik zero @ Sep 26th 2008 3:59PM
It's because she's a Ninja, duh! And Crocs were the worst and more ugly shoes ever, EVER made
LocalToast @ Sep 26th 2008 6:05PM
That's a tabi boot. That's what ninjas wear.
Duh.
j.howlett @ Sep 26th 2008 3:59PM
could it be that easy to change things in a game mr. grant?
Sam @ Sep 26th 2008 4:03PM
to me this game feels (well... looks) like portal without the portal gun, finding ways to get from point A to point B, as fast and as safely as possible. hopefully they will have challenge courses that you can run to break time records like portal too.
shMerker @ Sep 26th 2008 4:05PM
Typically cel-shading refers to a rendering technique, not a drawing or painting style.
Osman @ Sep 26th 2008 4:24PM
In the words of Homer Simpson "NNNNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRDDDDDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Nick @ Sep 26th 2008 4:08PM
This isn't cell-shading. This is traditional animation (on the computer).
danny. @ Sep 26th 2008 5:34PM
I don't think he implied he thought the trailer was cel-shaded, just that he would like the game to mimic the art style... which would be done by cel-shading
Christopher Grant @ Sep 26th 2008 7:19PM
Yeah, a bit misleading in the headline since there's no room to clarify. I've gone ahead and changed it.
AoE @ Sep 26th 2008 4:12PM
Chris I think you might have your terms mixed up... cell-shading is a term that refers to a way of shading 3D animation. It draws it's name from cell animation, aka traditional, hand-drawn animation.
This is indeed put together on a computer, but it was done using After Effects, not a 3d app, and certainly not cell-shaded, that's all hand-drawn (albeit digitally) my friend.
Arturis @ Sep 26th 2008 5:20PM
Indeed. The actual game itself *is* cel shaded 3D, though its a lot more obvious in the cut scenes when you can actually see your character.
TrojanGuy @ Sep 26th 2008 4:35PM
Very cool. I hope the game can live up to everything I've seen so far. Has the potential to be outstanding.
Kia @ Sep 26th 2008 5:17PM
Man, I'm not usually a first-person fan, but I am -so psyched- for this game it's not even funny. I can't wait for November. I'm so glad it ended with the tune of the song used in that trailer way back, too. I'd hate to have seen the music change.
Titanium_Orchid @ Sep 26th 2008 5:51PM
I really really hope this game turn out to be good.
All the hype is scaring me a bit though, I just keep remembering how excited I was for Assassin's Creed, and then being completely let down
LocalToast @ Sep 26th 2008 6:05PM
My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.
wiredknight @ Sep 26th 2008 6:27PM
It's for the greater good.
THE GREATER GOOOOOOD.
therpham @ Sep 26th 2008 7:06PM
Okay, so basically she's Evey from the film version of V for Vendetta?
Jess Q. @ Sep 26th 2008 11:04PM
I'm not all that hyped for this, though I do want to play it. But I just want to say, I long for the day when game acting and writing stops sucking balls.
If I had a nickel for every time I cracked open Microsoft word and started writing a monologue just like what Faith says in this trailer, only to close the window without saving because it was embarrassingly stupid, I would be filthy rich.
And working for gaming companies, apparently.
The game looks pretty, but this is looking to be yet another game where I have to sit through a hackneyed plot, stilted dialogue and uncomfortable CG "acting."
I'm not saying ALL games stories are bad. Just, most of them. :\
Resident nEvil @ Sep 28th 2008 2:39AM
Depends what you're comparing it to. Shakespeare? Tolkien? Because if you think this sounds worse than your average summer blockbuster trailer, you've been seeing better trailers than I have.
On a side note, I am now eagerly looking forward to the inevitable totalitarian paradise which awaits us.
Freedom = Stampeding protestors that kill your parents.
Fascism = Blue skies and bright shiny skyscrapers you can jump around on.
Someguy @ Sep 27th 2008 12:05AM
looks stylish.
Sam QforQ Houston @ Sep 27th 2008 2:38AM
This really reminds me of the Animatrix.
Very cool, I'd like a full feature, like the Animatrix, done on the story of this game. It could be very interesting!
