Activision Blizzard files trademark for 'Dance Hero'
We know that the rhythm genre's communal idea well has been dry for quite some time now, but we find it hard to get behind Activision Blizzard's recent decision to trademark the title Dance Hero for "computer game software" development. Not only is it grammatically disturbing (shouldn't it be Dancing Hero, or rather, the Hero of Dance), but judging solely by the trademarked moniker, we think their new project may be an answer to Konami's Dance Dance Revolution series. There are just so few arcades remaining -- we'd rather not share them with a new generation of button-stompers.
The trademark filing appeared around the same time as the rumors that DJ Hero, a title reserved by Activision in February, is actually in production. We'll be anxious to see if Dance Hero follows the same path (assuming the DJ Hero rumors prove true), or if it will join Drum Villain and Guitar Villain in the filing cabinet located within the basement of Activision Blizzard's Santa Monica headquarters. You know, the cabinet labeled "unusable, awful ideas".

wiredknight @ Sep 27th 2008 9:12PM

Why isn't this called "Dancing Queen"?
Ped @ Sep 28th 2008 5:00AM
Is "war hero" gramatically incorrect too?
FSK405K @ Sep 27th 2008 7:38PM
As long as they have some Swan Lake in there, it's cool.

Mr. ESC excessively used personal attacks heh, got to a point where the bloggers had to edit out his excessive nonsense. If you consider what all gets let by here you can imagine how bad it must have been.

Don't talk about the ADS! The hummingbird is watching!
Jakka(A tribute to whose who fought and failed during the Epic Flamewar of L.A. Noir and MR.ESC) @ Sep 27th 2008 7:52PM
Can't you understand they're only doing this to avoid shamefull knock-offs that could somehow be linked/associated with GH Franchise?
It ain't happening.
Drew @ Sep 27th 2008 8:04PM
Who said this isn't a shameful knock off that's linked to GH? It's already half way there
Titanium_Orchid @ Sep 27th 2008 8:31PM
Didn't Konami make this game 10 years ago?
Morisato @ Sep 28th 2008 11:32AM
Yeah, and they made Guitar Hero and Rock Band 10 years ago as well. It's called GuitarFreaks and DrumMania.
Sheppy (of the Fidlious Clan of Wong) @ Sep 28th 2008 5:38PM
Yeah, that was totally unfair how Red Octane just up and gave Konami 9+ years to bring over Guitar Freaks before they finally decided. Just think, if Red Octane didn't jump that gun, I'm sure we'd all be set to playing heavy metal over Kick the Can, AMP3, and Paranoia in Q4... 2091 for PS48 a year after PS49 launched.
Seriously. I can understand the bitterness on the whole "Konami invented this shit" the Bemani fantards got going but face facts. Konami is among one of the most poorly managed companies out there. Hell, their first reaction to DDR being imported to US arcades was threatening litigation. IF Bemani fans well and truly took their heads from their asses, they'd realize NO game could have reached mainstream success with the high cost of importing the title in conjunction with the needing to import either a japanese console, or modding a US one. You guys can sit there and bark about how Konami's thunder was stolen but face it, Konami allowed GH and RB to steal their thunder. I mean, let's put it this way...
All three PSX releases of DDR were post PS2 launch, same with the ONLY domestic release of Beatmania, a game they couldn't decided if they wanted to release Beatmania or IIDX. Beatmania's arcade dubt in the US, official that is, was IIDX 14th Style Gold. Konami has clusterfucked their brand.
lorddshadow @ Sep 27th 2008 8:45PM
may the milking begin. or...i guess keep going in this case.
Xoviet chiK @ Sep 27th 2008 10:36PM
Wasn't Red Octane famous for making Dance Mats before venturing into Guitar Hero? And didn't they also publish "In the Groove" and face a lawsuit from Konami around the time of Activision purchasing them?
Jestersage @ Sep 28th 2008 12:51AM
Yes they did. So prepare for blistering steps, mines, and hands. as for them? They better prepare for lawsuits.
KeegdnaB @ Sep 27th 2008 11:11PM
It must be said
Konami will sue
Ignatius @ Sep 27th 2008 11:26PM

Joystiq, you win yet again by declaring Walken the Hero of Dance. You speak the truth.
Red Leader @ Sep 28th 2008 1:55AM
I can just see the tools lining up outside of JewStop for a midnight launch already.
Anticrawl @ Sep 28th 2008 2:16AM
Tool defined in regard to a creature - a person who is controlled by others and is used to perform unpleasant or dishonest tasks for someone else.
Moron - a term used to describe persons of or between the ages 8 and 12. SEE: Red Leader

Red Leader @ Sep 28th 2008 3:58AM
I see what you did there with the whole definition joke. Man you kids are clever.
NoHitHair @ Sep 28th 2008 11:54AM
Are you using "Jew" in a derogitory sense as a general insult or are you indicating that GameStop is owned and run by Jews?
Or are you intimating a general control over the American economy by Jewish interests and thus GameStop by extension?
I really need to stop analyzing Joystiq posts...
Red Leader @ Sep 28th 2008 12:35PM
I use the name JewStop because GameStop jews everyone out of their money. I don't really even have a problem with Jewish people in the slightest, but I'm sure there's plenty of overly sensitive people out there who will no doubt be angry.
ScottG13 @ Sep 28th 2008 2:25AM
Its nice to be able to continue to thoroughly ignore what Activision is doing to a once great brand. Harmonix treats me well.
Ridgecity @ Sep 28th 2008 2:32AM
They should call it "Dancing With The Nerds"...
a_roast_chicken @ Sep 28th 2008 5:20AM
Well, if dance is a noun (which it can be) then it is equally as 'grammatically disturbing' as 'Guitar Hero', where guitar is the noun. But I can totally understand where its coming from
gombard @ Sep 28th 2008 5:13AM
