BioShock PS3 gold, ending unchanged

Check off "done" on your BioShock for PlayStation 3 scorecard, along with date, demo, DLC, and disk space. Are we missing anything? Well, for one, a different ending -- but that's been shot down into a flaming pile of sinking wreckage to cut costs [maintain the original production]. "When you get a chance to work on something that was really creative you get the temptation to re-do things," senior producer Melissa Miller told MTV Multiplayer. "We chose not to." Fine, but a simple, "play the original / alternative ending" option would have satisfied purists (and encouraged some of us to buy the game again, too!).

Just seeing those flames in the first images brought back my first moments in game.
I think I spent a good 5-10 minutes just swimming around staring in awe at the flames.

I was with a friend who at the time of BioShock release, he just had bought a PS2 (with a used copy of The Bouncer), his second console since the N64.
I invited him to play BioShock to my house... after the introduction, in the part when you are in the water with the flames, he was not moving the character. I told him: You can move now. And he was like: wtf, is this real time... I thought it was CGI.
Very good graphics.

Haha, I did the exact same thing when the demo first hit Xbox LIVE. I swam around until the whole plane went under and then I went around the building just in sheer awe of it. Just like Fernandos friend said, I was amazed that it was real-time gameplay on my screen.
Hey T2, would ya kindly hurry up and give us some news on Bioshock 2? :D kthxbai

I do remember the flames but as having a machine just meeting the minimum specs... they look horrible in the demo. SO PIXIELATED!

It would be really ironic if they had changed the ending and the new ending was considered canon for Bioshock 2.

Great game but horrible ending IMO, far too short. The ending cinematic (for good and bad endings) is like only a minute long and no rolling credits either, your thrust right back into the title screen. I played it on the PC BTW.
It was also too short like all other great games. : (

I just recently pulled the game out and replayed it. It's still a master piece!

Now this has to be the most stupid "story" I've ever seen on any of the gaming "news" blogs. How does it make sense to totally remake a game's ending just because it comes out on a different system, albeit a year after it came out on the others? Can you imagine the outrage when people find out the original has been changed? Can you imagine the betrayal that the original purchasers would have? What about the new buyers, that they don't have the original ending?
Apparently, these "news" blogs can't. I usually hate it when people remark "Is this news?" but this time I really can't figure out why this matters.

you must have missed the part of the "news" blog, where he said:

Reading comprehension should be required to look at these sites.

Actually a new ending would be nice even though its not needed. I cried tears of dissapointment when I saw the endings. I mean seeing Jack die as a frail, weak, old man after going through all of that (rescuing little sisters, becoming a big daddy, just progressing throught the story, etc.) was too much. Plus having NO REPLAY VALUE after the end didn't help either. Same goes for the alternate ending. Though MOT, your right, changing the story's ending would be too much just for a port. Perhaps they could add something to the PS3 version's ending to further explain what happened to Jack after leaving Rapture. Something simple like that.

I don't understand how you might expect one blog entry to not get a dookie load of comments when they are giving away FREE STUFF to people that comment. Maybe you just didn't read the other blog entry in it's entirety.

LBP flames need to die out...
Im telling you, aside from our special eclectic, tech heads posting on these blogs. ie My Neo Geo is still in mint condition guys...
This game is ALL hype (on Joystiq) right not.IMO the hardcore gamers - casual gamers will enjoy (if that) LBP for 1-2 weeks...period.
I mean it IS quirky, but trust me, designing levels is "so not for the masses", most people want to play others hard work if anything.

I don't care what anyone says, I enjoyed this game from beginning to end. Great game, and I think it's perfectly good just the way it is. If I didn't already have a 360, I'd be enjoying this on my PS3.

I echo what you're saying man. This game is genius.
Graphics, sound, story, atmosphere, music, gameplay, just all of it was great. Glad I bought it day one.
PS3 owners enjoy. :)

The Sander Cohen section is arguably my favorite sequence from a video game ever. Beautifully choreographed, designed, executed. Tchaikovsky was just an inspired choice.
PS3 owners support this game and enjoy.

I was contemplating waiting for the ps3 version cause of the addition of trophies, and I was unsure how well my laptop would run the pc version....but then the game went on sale for TEN FREAKING DOLLARS on Steam.
Needless to say, no amount of trophies and dlc is worth that $50 price differential. And my pc runs the game just fine ;)

I enjoyed this game a lot, until about halfway, when it started feeling like a copypaste job. What I wouldn't have given for a little more variety, some enemies that weren't just the same ugly people or big daddies over and over (even the bosses were just the same splicers with a bit more hp!). A bit more use for any of the plasmids besides electricity would've been nice, too. Oh, and to have the "mystery" part at the beginning last a little bit longer, have you figure out some stuff on your own about what happened, instead of just arriving and immediately getting everything explained by some guy like "this and that happened, now here's what you gotta do". It could've been all awesome, instead of just partially.

OK so I've played through Bioshock, what exactly do people not like about the ending? I thought it was fine. Was it the ending cinematic, the last fight etc?

The last quarter of the game wasn't all that it could have been, but I believe that the first hour is possibly the finest to be found in gaming.

New ending for PS3 = bad, bad, bad idea.
For one thing, you'd run straight into a console-war buzzsaw, as flamewars get hot over which console gets the better ending (though it's true that might spur some sales).
But more to the point: Bioshock is a *story*! You know, those stories games are supposed to be telling? Like, like books and movies? And you don't just arbitrarily change the ending of a story after it's been released, unless you're George Lucas, and generally everyone ends up regretting that. Like it or don't, once a story's out there, it has an integrity of its own, and it's just not right to tinker with it indefinitely.

That's a huge disappointment, considering that the endings were a paltry reward for finishing the entire game. I mean, why the hell were the endings almost less than 30 seconds, maybe 60 tops? (I never timed them).
I just figured they couldn't fit the FMV movie onto the 360's dvd, and hoping for at least some sort of extended cut in the ps3 version. I wouldn't be surprised at all if M$ was slipping some money under the table and saying, "pppsssst....don't make our machine look bad. The ps3 version must be almost exactly the same as the 360's except for some trivial additional content otherwise it [bioshock] might drive new ps3 console sales..."

This is supposed to be "collector's edition" of Bioshock after all. If this was a Hollywood movie, the ideal would be loaded with EXTRAS. No excuse not to do that here!
