When rapper Soulja Boy is done being a one-hit wonder international superstar he's got some big dreams. He wants to go to college, he wants to start his own clothing line, own his own shoe line and, as you can see at the 2:33 mark in the video below the break, design video games. We know we're going to get a glut of commenters decrying his intentions, but we think it's a great, great idea.
For one, he says in the video he once dreamed of being a Flash animator (really), though he admits in the same breath that "sounds kinda gay" (also really). For two, did you have the design insight to know that Braid was actually for people who smoke or people who drink? We think not.
why does joystiq pay attention to this retard??? its like cnn talking about paris hilton...its not news, and people like this should be fired off on a rocket to the sun. Joystiq plz ignore this one hit retard
@stupididiot im not talking about news, im talking about joystiq posting anything on something unrelated to gaming and worthless to society as soulja boy is
Because he is Soulja Boy, and nobody cares about Soulja Boy, even if he decided that video games aren't worth his time and he decides that CERN is where his time will be spent wisely
because it's funny to watch a failing rap star fall back onto video games, because he's just a kid and should of stayed in school and got smart and stuff.
Beyond the homophobic comments, this guy's got his head on straight. Everyone would benefit from having goals like he does, especially his educational ones.
Actually, I would pay for a game where you launch him into the sun....just to hear him scream as he gets turned into a charcoal briquette sounds like a blast!
allow me to educate some of you people about soulja boy...
Dude was a straight A student all through highschool, and realistically could prolly get into any college he wanted to.. Furthermore he is not really a one hit wonder since, he had three hit singles release off his album and has gone on to produce hit singles for other aritsts as well.
Joystiq does something like 30 blog posts per day if not more. Many of them are relatively mundane. You don't have to pay attention to every single one of them. Basically they comment on ANYthing related to gaming even if it's something you don't care about.
So, I say no thank you to your desire for your own brand of content control.
And your paris hilton analogy is completely false. The corporate media USED to have a responsibility to report on actual events because it was seen as a public service. They generally operated at a loss for the TV station. Now they go for ratings and try to turn a profit. Reporting on Paris Hilton is safe for their advertisers, so that's what they do.
Shogun, please give credible references for this and I'll be happy to believe you. Of course, getting straight As in this country's public school system isn't necessarily a hard task... Also, a "hit" song is one that was popular, not one that says "hit single" on the little sticker on his album cover
I'm glad he wants to go to college and better himself. Can't hate a guy for wanting that. Maybe he should start with English and work his way up though.
Doesnt mean he actually will, or try. He sounds like the waitress who says she wants to be an actress, and write her own movies, and direct them, and produce them, and also own her own business, and (insert other impossible goal here).
You know, a game with overt homosexuality in a mature way like, say, City and the Pillar, would actually be a good thing, IMO. It would show that our chosen hobby was growing up.
There'd be no need for games like Gears of War with its hidden themes because it'll all be out in the open. It'd come out of the closet, so to say.
@Nigeria: How I came across it? The guy who posted the article before me made a reference to it. I wanted to see proof. Googled it, found it. I got quite a collection of porn, if that's what you are after, but terrible black rappers don't belong in it -fortunately.
I actually thought the "no homo" was hilarious, if a bit ridiculous.
I really no problem with soulja-boy, i doubt he'll ever have a song as popular as that first one, but if he wants to get into other things and go to college, then i say good for him. I mean he said at one point in his life he wanted to be a flash animator, how many rappers do you think even know what flash animators are?
I would totally play a game made by this kid. I'm always 100% for experiencing different perspectives. It's always so funny to see people get all pissed off any time this kid says anything about games' like gaming is some sacred institution that only a few nerds on the internet are allowed to appreciate.
It really is funny. I can't believe so many people fell for that Braid bashing, and even if Soulja was being serious about it his complaints aren't completely without merit just because he's a crappy rapper.
That said, if he were to design a game I'd definitely play it as well. The kid seems to genuinely like video games, and the fact that he at least went through the trouble of trying a relatively unknown (outside of the gaming community) indie game says something.
