Soulja Boy tells 'em he wants to make video games
When rapper Soulja Boy is done being a one-hit wonder international superstar he's got some big dreams. He wants to go to college, he wants to start his own clothing line, own his own shoe line and, as you can see at the 2:33 mark in the video below the break, design video games. We know we're going to get a glut of commenters decrying his intentions, but we think it's a great, great idea.
For one, he says in the video he once dreamed of being a Flash animator (really), though he admits in the same breath that "sounds kinda gay" (also really). For two, did you have the design insight to know that Braid was actually for people who smoke or people who drink? We think not.

why does joystiq pay attention to this retard??? its like cnn talking about paris hilton...its not news, and people like this should be fired off on a rocket to the sun. Joystiq plz ignore this one hit retard
Stupidiot @ Sep 29th 2008 9:40AM
It's not Joystiq's job to report solely on news.
They're a gaming BLOG.
Duke @ Sep 29th 2008 9:59AM
...and we all know this guy is important to gaming. (
(I agree with the initial post. Soulja Boy is a tool nobody needs to know more about.)
Steven M @ Sep 29th 2008 10:01AM
@stupididiot im not talking about news, im talking about joystiq posting anything on something unrelated to gaming and worthless to society as soulja boy is
Ludwig Kietzmann @ Sep 29th 2008 10:13AM
Explain to me again how his desire to get into video game design (which we ridicule, actually) is unrelated to gaming?
StrangeBum @ Sep 29th 2008 10:41AM
@ Ludwig
Because he is Soulja Boy, and nobody cares about Soulja Boy, even if he decided that video games aren't worth his time and he decides that CERN is where his time will be spent wisely
Sam @ Sep 29th 2008 10:50AM
because it's funny to watch a failing rap star fall back onto video games, because he's just a kid and should of stayed in school and got smart and stuff.
oh, and because he's an idiot.
Helloimbob @ Sep 29th 2008 11:04AM
You know what I'm sayin?
Duke @ Sep 29th 2008 11:07AM
Ludwig, I think its just that a lot of us don't like Soulja Boy.
SuperGayParade @ Sep 29th 2008 11:16AM
Beyond the homophobic comments, this guy's got his head on straight. Everyone would benefit from having goals like he does, especially his educational ones.
Obie @ Sep 29th 2008 11:17AM
Actually, I would pay for a game where you launch him into the sun....just to hear him scream as he gets turned into a charcoal briquette sounds like a blast!
Red Leader @ Sep 29th 2008 11:17AM
Hey remember what happened when "Fiddy" decided he wanted to make a video game? Yeah, and now he's apparently making a second one.
ARE YOU F****** KIDDING ME!?
Someone needs to put a stop to the madness. (Not madness, this is sparta "hahahahah" it's not funny anymore.)
Duke @ Sep 29th 2008 11:23AM
Yet 50 cent's new game looks to be a crack up. :O
Haggard (steam: haggard_dawn, PSN: HaggyWaggy) @ Sep 29th 2008 11:27AM
Blood in the Sand is going to be damn awesome.
It just needs to be tailored a bit better towards the market of people who drink and people who smoke.
shogunoflive @ Sep 29th 2008 11:33AM
allow me to educate some of you people about soulja boy...
Dude was a straight A student all through highschool, and realistically could prolly get into any college he wanted to.. Furthermore he is not really a one hit wonder since, he had three hit singles release off his album and has gone on to produce hit singles for other aritsts as well.
SugarDaddy @ Sep 29th 2008 11:32AM
Joystiq does something like 30 blog posts per day if not more. Many of them are relatively mundane. You don't have to pay attention to every single one of them. Basically they comment on ANYthing related to gaming even if it's something you don't care about.
So, I say no thank you to your desire for your own brand of content control.
And your paris hilton analogy is completely false. The corporate media USED to have a responsibility to report on actual events because it was seen as a public service. They generally operated at a loss for the TV station. Now they go for ratings and try to turn a profit. Reporting on Paris Hilton is safe for their advertisers, so that's what they do.
Taco_Hell @ Sep 29th 2008 7:17PM
@shogunoflive
He can have all the A's he wants, that still doesn't make him appear less of an idiot especially when it comes to gaming or any of his music good.
tdub301 @ Sep 29th 2008 1:34PM
Shogun, please give credible references for this and I'll be happy to believe you. Of course, getting straight As in this country's public school system isn't necessarily a hard task... Also, a "hit" song is one that was popular, not one that says "hit single" on the little sticker on his album cover
Edog Lost @ Sep 29th 2008 3:11PM
Say what you will of the quality of 50 Cent's game. But it was a financial success.
The game sold over a million units to date.
Ian Murray @ Sep 29th 2008 3:22PM
Not related at all to the story...but why you gotta steal a brutha's icon?
Steven M @ Sep 29th 2008 3:31PM
@ edog lost many shitty games sell well, mostly to stupid people, but the games themselves still suck @Ian Murray Mines better.......lol
jumpshot @ Sep 29th 2008 4:26PM
Well, look at the amount of comments on this post. That should answer the "why".
Bauer22 @ Sep 29th 2008 4:39PM
WTF is up with him? It seems like he already go all the 12 year old girls to buy his CDs, is he trying to get gamers now?
Jack of No Trades 85 @ Sep 29th 2008 9:35AM
Its the end of the world as we know it...
tr1cky tpr @ Sep 29th 2008 10:20AM
And i feel fine!
Morisato @ Sep 29th 2008 9:35AM
I'm glad he wants to go to college and better himself. Can't hate a guy for wanting that. Maybe he should start with English and work his way up though.
Eh @ Sep 29th 2008 12:44PM
Doesnt mean he actually will, or try. He sounds like the waitress who says she wants to be an actress, and write her own movies, and direct them, and produce them, and also own her own business, and (insert other impossible goal here).
vidGuy @ Sep 29th 2008 9:39AM
Cmon guys, the industry needs a new fallboy after the demise of Jack Thompson. I say we treat Soulja Boy with all the loving respect we gave old JT.
Steven M @ Sep 29th 2008 9:40AM
AMEN
Smoke_Dawg_187 @ Sep 29th 2008 9:42AM
Wow, this guy sure gets a lot of press.
samfish @ Sep 29th 2008 9:44AM
Oh, good. We need more games that lower our IQs with every play session. Lord knows there aren't nearly enough of those!
John Z @ Sep 29th 2008 9:52AM
BREAKING: Soulja Boy confirmed for cover of Imagine: Rap Star.
Sam @ Sep 29th 2008 10:53AM
hey, he just wants to make games for people who smoke and drink! they aren't gonna make no damn sense!
Shagittarius @ Sep 29th 2008 11:24AM
Did he confirm he was going to be making games for the Wii?
B @ Sep 29th 2008 9:49AM
Good for Soulja boy, we could really use another Big Rigs to shit on.
Obie @ Sep 29th 2008 11:16AM
Or Shaq Fu 2: Tell Em.
Tom18230 @ Sep 29th 2008 9:52AM
He needs a better camera...and a brain. Idiot.
meist3r @ Sep 29th 2008 9:52AM
User tells Soulja boy he wouldn't want to play his video games ...
j @ Sep 29th 2008 9:57AM
Hmm..."sounds gay?" weird how pictures of Soulja Boy getting oral from another guy popped up on the internet
meist3r @ Sep 29th 2008 10:51AM
What, you mean these:
http://www.celebvids.co.uk/tag/soulja-boy-blowjob/
DNSFW!
Don't ban me or anything, I just want to help portray this upcoming star in video games history...
Nigeria @ Sep 29th 2008 11:16AM
How did you come across that, Meist3r?
You know, a game with overt homosexuality in a mature way like, say, City and the Pillar, would actually be a good thing, IMO. It would show that our chosen hobby was growing up.
There'd be no need for games like Gears of War with its hidden themes because it'll all be out in the open. It'd come out of the closet, so to say.
Obie @ Sep 29th 2008 11:36AM
Meh, looks photoshopped to me.
meist3r @ Sep 29th 2008 2:04PM
@Nigeria: How I came across it? The guy who posted the article before me made a reference to it. I wanted to see proof. Googled it, found it. I got quite a collection of porn, if that's what you are after, but terrible black rappers don't belong in it -fortunately.
TheOverlord#2 @ Sep 29th 2008 3:19PM
WHY CAN'T I UNSEE IT?!?!
ToRo @ Sep 29th 2008 9:58AM
He was actually making a good point with the college talk. He ruined though. "I wanna go to college...no homo!" lol.
Collision891 @ Sep 29th 2008 11:54AM
I actually thought the "no homo" was hilarious, if a bit ridiculous.
I really no problem with soulja-boy, i doubt he'll ever have a song as popular as that first one, but if he wants to get into other things and go to college, then i say good for him. I mean he said at one point in his life he wanted to be a flash animator, how many rappers do you think even know what flash animators are?
ToRo @ Sep 29th 2008 12:12PM
Good point. In my eyes I think he's a nerd at heart but got caught up with what all the cool kids were doing and gave it up. No homo! lol
Wubbytoes @ Sep 29th 2008 10:00AM
I would totally play a game made by this kid. I'm always 100% for experiencing different perspectives. It's always so funny to see people get all pissed off any time this kid says anything about games' like gaming is some sacred institution that only a few nerds on the internet are allowed to appreciate.
zkey14 @ Sep 29th 2008 10:22AM
It really is funny. I can't believe so many people fell for that Braid bashing, and even if Soulja was being serious about it his complaints aren't completely without merit just because he's a crappy rapper.
That said, if he were to design a game I'd definitely play it as well. The kid seems to genuinely like video games, and the fact that he at least went through the trouble of trying a relatively unknown (outside of the gaming community) indie game says something.
John Z @ Sep 29th 2008 10:25AM
I get what you're saying, but in all honesty there are people who could bring us the same perspective with more aplomb. Far, far more aplomb.
