Molyneux: Fable II online co-op patch may make launch

Speaking at a video game festival in Paris yesterday, Molyneux allegedly said that Fable 2 would include online co-op at launch, though clarified today that he could not confirm the timing, saying the team had an "ambition" for a day one patch. Having that wiggle room of a week would probably be best for Lionhead, but we're happy to take the online patch at launch too.

Please make it avaiable. Nothing makes a game like this better than co-op.

While the feature will be a lot fun, Im glad they didn't push the game back to get it in there. I will play through once on my own anyways.

Anybody know if you have to have played the first Fable to play this? Don't know why but its been getting more and more interesting to me and I think I'm gonna check it out.

It takes place 500 years after the original, so it's not a direct continuation, but a few of the events and characters will likely be refrenced.
I'd recommend playing through the first game, if you can, but if not it's not a big deal.
The official website also has a "Tales of Albion" feature which are brief story segments explaining what's happened in the years after the original, with Hero's being hunted down, guns being invented, etc. It's good stuff :)

Cool, thanks man. Too many games, so little time. :(

"Too many games, so little time."
I hear you on that one man, not to mention the fact that my wallet seems to be dieting like it's decided to take on some religious fast or something.

You can find the original game on XBL for $20, and it can be played through in a few days.

Patch this, Patch that, Yea it's nice & all, But what happen to making a game that works & has all features as Promised on Launch day!
knighty (GT: ZeraKnight) @ Sep 30th 2008 11:27AM
It doesn't happen. I still have no idea why people are so bitchy about patches. A perfect game doesn't exist, especially since games are getting more and more complex. Of course it's not nice when a game is released without such an essential feature as online co-op but since we're going to be waiting like a few days at most now (it seems), it's hardly a huge issue.
JeffM @ Sep 30th 2008 11:31AM
Believe it or not you can't modify the contents of a game disc after it has been released to manufacture.
So this serves as a way for the Lionhead developers to ship and then work on a incremental update after they've frozen their code- personally I think it is genius- we get all the features and a faster time to market since with internet updates developers can "finish" adding features to complete a game.
It's not like they were going to be shipping it missing the last boss battle or something. :)
Dirty @ Sep 30th 2008 12:11PM
I agree with Jeff. If they took the time to make the game perfect, it would never make it to market. Ship the damn game, that's why I have the internet.
Sesur @ Sep 30th 2008 3:21PM
I agree man... Hopefully we won't have to wait long or at all, but I consider this to be a major component of the game over all. I'd much rather have it on disc, but whatever.
Snowblind @ Sep 30th 2008 11:14AM
As long as it's in within the week, I really don't see the problem. People trying to claim that co-op is a major part of the game are just deluding themselves, or simple looking for something to complain about.
I think it'll be fun to explore other peoples worlds, and seeing exactly how much they differ from your own, and it'll probably even be fun to play right through making a co-op world together..
But I'd only do those things once I'm done playing though by myself, delaying the game just to get it in at launch would have been far worse than patching it in a few days later.
j.howlett @ Sep 30th 2008 11:26AM
it's kind of a big deal but i believe that they'll have a patch soon, so not really. just hope people can keep this same perspective with other properties.
Quaddw @ Sep 30th 2008 11:45AM
I would rather have a delay in online co-op being available than a delay in them manufacturing the game which would be much longer than a week.
Slim Pickinz96 @ Sep 30th 2008 11:53AM
Ahh np...
Patches never hurt anyone, and the complaints on patches, go through one ear and out the other...
As for the CoOp i am rather curious about the limitations...
I read a while back " Molyneaux and co-Worker, were playing the campaign together. After a long trip they returned to Molyneaux's(PM's) home(in game) to find his wife there upset and bickering. The Co-worker, out of frustration, then shot PM's wife and let loose a maniacal laugh, as the child that was in home just ran out and away.."
Thats nuts...Dont shoot me wife after all our years of happy marriage( in game ) then log out.
xD
Intangible 360 @ Sep 30th 2008 12:48PM
You can choose to play with your safety on or off which will prevent your friend from doing stuff like killing your wife, children, etc.
joeybeast @ Sep 30th 2008 12:11PM
I'm wondering if online co-op will be on the box art.
Marty @ Sep 30th 2008 2:20PM
Online co-op COULD be available at launch?
More like it SHOULD be available at launch! Come on guys, get those games finished before you release 'em!
brian @ Sep 30th 2008 2:26PM
that caption is so perfect for that picture.
he looks like such an idiot lol.
DBoyFlex @ Sep 30th 2008 2:40PM
Either way, I am getting excited for launch. I agree with the guy above. Get me the game and patch it later. I want at least a week to play before I get into Fallout, then another week till gears. I need the game on release day or it may not get played.
tsukyome @ Oct 24th 2008 12:19PM
wtc peter molyneux!? where's the patch!?
