Listen: We're not going to say that if you head out to your local GameBlast3000 retail outlet and ask the disinterested staff to find you an Xbox 360 with a Lot number of 0831 or higher, that you'll nab yourself a cool-running 65nm GPU, Jasper-equipped Xbox 360. Some folks posting on the Xbox 360 DVD Drive Database (seven as of publishing time) claim to have nabbed just such a beast; however, not a single one of them has responded to requests in the comments to verify their claim with something as simple as a photograph of the manufacturing label.
Microsoft, of course, wouldn't confirm the shipment of new models, issuing us the boilerplate response, "We are constantly updating internal components on our consoles and therefore will not comment on details of specific components or manufacturing processes." Since we learned that Jasper systems would begin shipping as early as last month, and can speculate that the recent price drop was probably hinged on further lowering the system's manufacturing costs, we fully expect to see Jasper systems any day now. We're just not convinced this is the proof we've been waiting for. Caveat emptor.

supposedly consoles made after August 6, or with lot #8031 or higher have the chips

I believe these reports are a bit premature. I just bought a 360 myself, with lot #831, and manufacture date of 8/1/2008. I don't know if it's a Jasper MoBo on it, but I do know that it has a 175W power supply, and the rear vents do feel warm to the touch. Not having ever owned a 360 before, I can't compare it with anything else.

@ Duke
when did i suggest that there were no games for the 360? i said there are so few big titles that INTEREST ME. an opinion that is pivotal in me plunking down $300+ for a gaming console. ive never been an Xbox fan (always played Sony, Nintendo, and Sega consoles) but there lineup of JRPG's is what's really making me even consider buying one. im perfectly happy with my PS3 EXCEPT for the lack of decent JRPG's at the moment. the 360 has some intriguing JRPG's and more on the way but not quite enough for me to jump in. ive played Halo and such plenty of times with my friends who have 360's but none of those games left me with that 'ive gotta get this' feeling.
and as for the warranty argument, what is so intriguing about having to mail my console off possibly multiple times and going for extending periods of time without it while it's being fixed? i lived that already with my PS2 and am not eager to do it again. all i was saying is that these new chips should stable out the console and make it a more sound product hardware wise.
sorry if i offended you but thats just my opinion of the 360 right now. most of the non-JRPG's the 360 has that i am interested in right now are also on the PS3, so i really dont necessarily need a 360 UNLESS it has exclusives that appeal to me. sure i play an FPS every now and then but i mostly prefer Platformers, Adventure, and JRPG's and my PS3 does all those except the last just fine right now. Halo, Gears, and Fable dont really do it for me (although the new Banjo game has my attention and Mass Effect did look interesting)

I've lost count now...
Wasn't the last one pretty much RROD-less? Why are they brining out a new one now?

I believe to save more on production costs and decrease power consumption / heat build up.
Smaller components might one day lead up to a 360 "slim" model.

I got my Elite about Aug of 2007. The warranty is out but it red ringed on 9/23 (night of bungie update) shipped out my console the next day and system was shipped back to me on 9/30. Is there anyway for me to tell whether or not I've got Jasper or Falcon without opening the system? I only shipped the console so I've got my original power supply. If they updated the system to Falcon or Jasper, wouldn't they need to send me a new power supply as well?
