Analyst doubts Wii price cut, recommends more peripherals
5
Mito Securities analyst Yoichiro Watanabe has weighed in on the buzz surrounding tomorrow's Nintendo Media Summit, suggesting that a Wii price cut is unlikely. Frankly, it's hard to disagree with the man. As Watanabe points out, demand is still through the roof, and the Holiday season is only going to ramp up Wii fever to ridiculous, hair-pulling levels.
More controversially, Watanabe thinks Nintendo should force us all to add to our growing collection of plastic doohickeys and controller shells, on the basis that adding new peripherals to the Wii has worked well for the company. That's not exactly a move we're in favor of (our living rooms are now mostly plastic), and Iwata has already stated that new add-ons are unlikely.

"....on the basis that adding new peripherals to the Wii has worked well for the company." Classic analyst's prediction; "whatever's happening now will probably keep happening". Do these people get paid?!
Putting water into my bath has worked well for me, but if I keep putting water into it, it overflows!
Maybe lay off the peripherals for a bit.

We really shouldn't listen to what these so called "analysts" have to say, because they usually aren't very informed about the industry they are supposedly analyzing. Plus, most of their "predictions" are common sense things that anyone could predict.
Here is the original article: http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=av57GXZpfYMk&refer=home
1) Watanbe never actually said Nintendo should make more peripherals. He just said that pairing games with peripherals (like Wii Fit and Mario Kart) has helped to solidify Nintendo's place in the average home. Plus, Iwata already said there really won't be more peripherals coming.
2) In the same article, "Analyst" Naoki Fujiwara made his brilliant prediction that Nintendo will likely "introduce home-made game titles such as a new version of the Wii Sports". Obviously this analyst is completely unaware of the fact that a new version of Wii Sports was announced months ago.
Common sense predictions annoy me most of all. Take for example, the analyst that who made the stunning prediction that Nintendo is working on it's next console already and that it will be in HD. Duh! Iwata has already gone on record (a long time ago) stating that the next console will be HD. Also, every console maker tends to begin development on their next console as soon as their current one is launched. These things take years to develop.
It shocks me sometimes that these people are paid for this.

People just don't seem to get it. Nintendo is all about software. The peripherals are built for software, and have been backed up by (largely) excellent flagship titles: Mario Kart Wii for the Wiil, Animal Crossing and The Conduit will flagship Wii Speak, Link's Crossbow Training and the many great shooters for the Zapper, Wii Sports Resort for Motion Plus, Wii Fit for the balance board, Wii Sports for the Wii remote itself
They act like those pieces of plastic sell themselves, or something.

I agree with Mr. Khan.
Each of the accessories serves their purpose too. A wheel for racing games, a gun for shooting games. Wii Speak for voice chat. The problem is with the crappy stuff that third parties come up with, like baseball bat and tennis racket attachments. Those are just plastic. Nintendo's accessories serve a purpose at least. Plus, Nintendo gives us the wheel and zapper for free with their respective games.
I'm also not really sure why people love to complain about the Wii's accessories as opposed to the accessories for other systems.
The Xbox360 has a headset, wi-fi adapter, camera, racing wheel, memory cards, media remote, controller messenger pad, faceplates, and those big button casual controllers. Yet I never hear complaints about the number of accessories for the 360...
