Rock Band 2 bonus registration open, tracks 'in a few weeks'
Harmonix is now accepting redemption codes for the twenty bonus FREE! downloadable tracks that come with the purchase of Rock Band 2. You'll have to give up (or make up?) some somewhat personal information and opt out of marketing spam, but after it's all submitted you should receive a speedy confirmation email locking you into your prize. And then, Harmonix says:
"Sit tight. The Bonus Tracks will be available in a few weeks -- we'll send you an email with a download code and redemption instructions as soon as they're ready." And by the way, we still have no idea what's in this mystery track pack. But it probably ain't some AC/DC. (Update: Here's one possible set list -- thanks phragit!)

it'll be Nevermind
Jeepers Creepers 712 @ Oct 1st 2008 11:13AM
Except this is 20 tracks... and 2 of Nevermind's 12 tracks are already available on RB/RB2 discs. So that's 10 songs unaccounted for.
The 20 tracks will be a variety pack, that way everyone will have something they like. They wouldn't release entire collections of an artist like that, HMX leaves that for the other guy to do *coughAerosmithSabbathHendrixAliccacough*
dark_inchworm @ Oct 1st 2008 11:45AM
Except that Harmonix is readying a standalone AC/DC release, making your poor argument invalid.
Travis @ Oct 1st 2008 11:47AM
10 will be nevermind, 10 other...
Jeepers Creepers 712 @ Oct 1st 2008 11:52AM
Big difference, Rock Band's AC/DC is an album release that's no different from say The Cars or The Pixies releases on RB DLC. They're an addition. GH makes standalone games for the full $60.
My point being was HMX wouldn't release a game that is centered 100% around a single artist. On any RETAIL release (which I'd consider this 20 bonus tracks to be, part of RB2), HMX wouldn't be so heavy on one artist, or even one genre. They try to hit the wide array, something for everyone sort of thing.
dark_inchworm @ Oct 1st 2008 12:20PM
you still make me lul to the max
FSK405K @ Oct 1st 2008 2:15PM
If it's Nevermind, I'll finally buy RB2.
Divine Dirtclod @ Oct 1st 2008 9:54AM
I'm looking forward to getting these tracks no matter what they are... I mean who doesn't like free stuff? Great plan on their part too. Get those casuals used to downloading content. I just wonder how many of those casuals know about the registration code stuff to begin with.
Lars @ Oct 1st 2008 1:41PM
Agreed, I'll take 20 free tracks any day. I'm guessing they're gonna be bonus tracks like Sprode, Bang Camaro, etc.
Now if only they weren't releasing RB2 a couple days before LBP...
DBoyFlex @ Oct 1st 2008 9:58AM
Nice, I will do this when I get home. I totally missed this until I read it the other day on the forums. Sweet. 20 free songs. I just hope there are some well known artists.
therpham @ Oct 1st 2008 10:03AM
I've been reserving full judgement on the song list until these come out. My slightly realistic hopes are for some Queen and Freezepop, and my completely unrealistic ones are for The Matches, Pompeii, Death Cab, or some SSTB-era Coheed.
Also, if you haven't heard Pompeii, do yourself a favour and check them out.
Ghoti @ Oct 1st 2008 10:16AM
I just hope these 20 songs are by bands that people have actually heard of, and not some of the "popular" Harmonix bands. We already got those "bonus" tracks on disk. These 20 tracks should be stuff that everyone will know.
SHAZAM! @ Oct 1st 2008 10:17AM
The way they refer to them as "Bonus Tracks" make it seem that it will be the Harmonix teams bands, the usual ones that appear in the bonus tracks of their disc releases.
Maybe it will have other stuff, maybe the other stuff will be good, and maybe it will actually be main stream stuff, but I would put money on HMX bands.

Cream and Bastards Rise by Harvey Danger will be in the track packs, as it was confirmed by Jeff Linn, jlin in the link, on the band's forums.
codedigital @ Oct 1st 2008 3:46PM
He confirms that it's DLC...not necessarily a track from the free 20 pack.
MajMalfunction @ Oct 1st 2008 10:38AM
I would guess that the release will be after Guitar Hero World Tour drops, or even the same week. Since several of those songs on the link were also in GH:WT.
knottyboystikesback @ Oct 1st 2008 10:39AM
Down here in Oz, we still don't have Rock Band 1.
Tell me, how awesome is it?!?!
Poor Australia :(
StrangeBum @ Oct 1st 2008 10:57AM
It's like warm apple pie...
gwangi @ Oct 1st 2008 10:41AM
Hot Hot Heat - Bandages
Bad Religion - Suffer
Have both been released already. But the rest of the list is possible.
mietha CAG @ Oct 2nd 2008 3:31AM
Sorrow was released, not Suffer. VERY different songs. Get your facts straight. I fucking wish it was Suffer...
gwangi @ Oct 2nd 2008 9:13AM
Sorry, my bad. They both started with S and then I saw a shiny object and got confused.
DCBlack @ Oct 1st 2008 10:47AM
I don't know if that list is accurate or not, but if it is it's a pretty good list as far as free is concerned.
Anyone know if this offer is 360 only or will PS3 get this as well?
gwangi @ Oct 1st 2008 10:54AM
PS3 will get it as well. It's just a matter of if they will also have to get it as DLC or if it will come on disc.
Mr Khan @ Oct 1st 2008 2:10PM
Wii gets it too, shockingly enough.
Jeepers Creepers 712 @ Oct 1st 2008 11:21AM
3. Static-X - Push It
5. Blink 182 - Dammit
7. Dead Kennedys - Holiday in Cambodia
12. Pennywise - The Western World
14. Sublime - Santeria
18. Queens of the Stone Age - No One Knows
19. The Killers - Somebody Told Me
----------------------------------------------
I would like these 7 for the most part... Pennywise would just be nice because that means HMX actually knows they exist and consider them for RB... Just saddened it isn't a more classic choice, something from Unknown Road, About Time, or Full Circle. Some stuff from From the Ashes would be sweet too.
Still wondering where the hell some of Green Day's Basketcase is... Figured that to be a no brainer since everyone knows half the album and it's an awesome album.
uskali @ Oct 1st 2008 12:53PM
You're thinking of Dookie n00b, and yes those songs are awesome, I would like all of them.
Too bad the taking back sunday song is off their new shitty cd. If they had something like a decade under the influence that would be awesome, that song is such a great singalong.
Jeepers Creepers 712 @ Oct 1st 2008 4:29PM
arg, yeah, Dookie. Sorry, didn't sleep after work at the point I posted that. Dookie was a great album.
Bambi @ Oct 13th 2008 8:21PM
Yea, well fortunately for you Static-X was released last week as DLC for Rock Band. =)
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Oct 1st 2008 11:24AM
Lists soure os PAX even though pax hadn't happened yet at the time of posting. I call shenanigans.
T @ Oct 2nd 2008 8:51AM
There's that, and the fact that 3-4 of those songs are already out as DLC now.
His source was probably something about upcoming DLC, and he assumed it was "The 20".
Frankly, I want all 20 to be a mystery. That way when I go to the "Bonus Pack Tour Challenge" or wahtever it'll be called I can be surprised as each song comes up.
I'm hoping one is a Rick Roll. It's gotta be why they haven't said anything yet...
ScottG13 @ Oct 1st 2008 11:29AM
Just hoping for stuff people know. Its selfish, but people play stuff they know/like at my Rock Band parties and that's really the only point for me.
whistlepig @ Oct 1st 2008 11:34AM
the free songs will most likely be stuff like bang camaro and mother hips type stuff . i doubt they will give big name band songs for free when they know people will buy those . just please no more skullcrusher mountain crap

RB needs more nightwish. Just about anything off of Once would be good. Ghost love score would be epic.
ChooChooCharlie @ Oct 1st 2008 12:40PM
Why would they offer that Hot Hot Heat song? It's already available for DLC.
JohnHeist @ Oct 1st 2008 7:01PM
As pointed out, 2 of those songs are already out (read; not free)
This makes me believe that list isn't the 20 Free songs, but 20 songs that are eventually going to be available for download in one way or another.
There was another rumored leaked list that seems more realistic (more obscure type bands), and it had DETHKLOK on it (Briefcase Full of Guts to be specific) but I can't find it right now.
mietha CAG @ Oct 2nd 2008 3:32AM
SUFFER IS NOT OUT. Reading is your friend.
Levy420 @ Oct 3rd 2008 2:11PM
I originally thought what all of you guys were thinking with the 20 random songs, I have reason to believe that it won't be that simple. Upon registering my RB2 Code, I noticed that they mentioned the registration is first, then the songs will be released in a few weeks because they want to put the same time into those songs as they did with the on disc songs. Idk about you, but making a pretty good chart takes eh 2 days? Especially if they have been bragging about these 20 songs since the beginning of summer.
After that bamboozlment, I clicked accept and it brought me to another registration page, name address ect with a comment box at the bottom labeled song suggestions. Which leads me to believe these 20 songs haven't been picked yet, they are taking everyones input to either make a very unique 20 song setlist, or everyone gets a certain number of songs + the ones that you recommended to equal 20 songs, since each person has a different code, this can be a possibility. If so, I'm gonna be a happy camper with my Senses Fail, Saosin, and Lostprophets.
TC81190 @ Oct 4th 2008 12:01AM
I think all six of next week's single track DLC is on that list. So not bonus tracks, but all of those songs will be DLC eventually I guess.
AJones @ Oct 30th 2008 2:45PM
I bought my copy of RB2 used at Game Stop. Am I totally out of luck on getting a redemption code for these 20 songs? (I can't believe I found a used copy already and honestly shoulda just bought a new one because I only got like 6 bucks off the game and no redemption code...)
