At its media summit today, Nintendo announced that the DSi Shop, a digital distribution vendor compatible with the new DS model, will launch with two capable titles: Brain Age 1 and ... Brain Age 2. "Retooled," of course, Reggie promised. With combined sales of well over 10 million units, the pair was an easy choice to lead the new service. Risky business this is not.
Something similar in vain to Sony and the PSP 1,2 and 3000 models. Although Sony did slightly up the ante with some slight hardware mods.
I am super excited about the DSi personally though. My younger brother still has a Phat that we both share, I never bothered buying a lite, but now I think I will make the plunge when it's released stateside.
No. The DS & DS lite don't have an option to upgrade firmware. It's basically as is forever as far as the main menu goes. The DSi Shop/DSWare are only compatible with the DSi.

"retooled" is the word I'm afraid of the most here.

Can they please put the entire Virtual Console catalog on it? I would love to play some Mario RPG on the go.

So you can download complete NDS games?
is it just me or are they tryign to get out of the $5-$10/cart by offloading it onto the customers SD cards?
oh well... you can get dozens of games on an SD card so I'm happier.
