More like "embracing the goldmine that is the casual crowd since 2007" amirite?
Xera077 @ Oct 2nd 2008 2:14PM
Well I think Nintendo did right thing here. The GCN launch was awful, they only had games for the fans and that's it. They need to expand their audience make sure they got first and served to their fans.
Now people who sold their Wii are crying.
Well Fed Troll @ Oct 2nd 2008 2:54PM
What range in age can you place these people who are crying for selling the Wii sir? (honest questions, not flaming)
I mean i do see some harrrdcore Nintendo fans on here on occasion. But IMHO what is anyone missing out on? Speakers?
Anyone that owns Ps3, 360, can understand what im confused about i hope.
adolson @ Oct 2nd 2008 2:59PM
Since 2006, you mean.
Moffka @ Oct 2nd 2008 2:13PM
Other than the DSi... which won't come out till late next year... None of this is very interesting to me.
JD @ Oct 2nd 2008 2:18PM
more like "embracing the goldmine that is the casual crowd and throwing a bone every once in a while to the core gamers since 2007"
Mr Khan @ Oct 2nd 2008 2:26PM
Sigh. This one's been disproved before too. Try again.
tmacairjordan87 @ Oct 2nd 2008 2:29PM
Uhhh..wait it has? Oh that's just what the nintendo fanboys want you to think. My mistake, carry on here.
samfish @ Oct 2nd 2008 3:01PM
Yes, because having double the amount of core games vs casual games on the shelf = bone throw.
Heh (Mr. ESC, living in the hearts of us all) @ Oct 2nd 2008 3:15PM
samfish;
Please provide some sort of evidence towards your claim. Most of the time Wii shelves have, at least, a 4 to 1 ratio of casual games and/or shovelware to "core" games.
Mr Khan @ Oct 2nd 2008 3:30PM
Well, yeah, if you count in 3rd parties. We're talking about games Nintendo has published.
xFenixKnightx @ Oct 2nd 2008 2:20PM
Awesome?
tmacairjordan87 @ Oct 2nd 2008 2:24PM
Well I've always gone by the saying that "If you have to ask yourself if it was awesome...it probably wasn't". So no not really.
xFenixKnightx @ Oct 2nd 2008 2:29PM
Yeah, I guess I'll give it the [MEH] stamp.
Well Fed Troll @ Oct 2nd 2008 2:56PM
*Looks over his shoulder to see if Mr. Khan is there, before pulling a stamp and run*
[MEH]!
Mr Khan @ Oct 2nd 2008 3:16PM
Hey, Well Fed, to each his own, right? What Meh's you excites me (like in this case) and what excites you might Meh me (like in the case of the PS360PC holiday lineup)
Heh (Mr. ESC, living in the hearts of us all) @ Oct 2nd 2008 3:16PM
What about a [HEH] stamp? No? Oh forget you guys. ;_;
xFenixKnightx @ Oct 2nd 2008 3:33PM
"and what excites you might Meh me (like in the case of the PS360PC holiday lineup)"
Wahhhhh???? O_o
[FAIL] stamped!
Raikage (Mr. ESC? Mr. ESC? MR. ESSSSSSCCCCCC!) @ Oct 2nd 2008 4:53PM
Yeah, sorry Khan but that gets a fail stamp
{FAYLE}
You can say what you will about Nintendo's line-up, not bad IMO, but you can't dis BOTH of the 360/PS3 line-up, They are almost always better (More games, more variety, and even better games occasionally) than Nintendo's offerings.
Unless we have a REAL Mario, Zelda, Metroid, or SSB in there... that's different of course :D
samfish @ Oct 2nd 2008 5:34PM
PS360 fall lineup bores me for the most part, too.
I'm only looking forward to Banjo and Battle Fantasia. Maybe X-Blades, too, but I'm pretty sure it'll suck.
Absolutely nothing on the PS3 appeals to me. I'd like to try LBP and that's about it.
The Wii, however, has Mushroom Men, De Blob, Samba, Wario and Sonic Unleashed (which, again, is being made by DIMPS, whereas PS360 Unleashed is made by Sonic Team. Track records!)
I have absolutely no problem seeing how someone might yawn at 360 and PS3's lineup this winter. There's very little variety.
knighty (GT: ZeraKnight) @ Oct 2nd 2008 9:15PM
What about Gears 2, Fable 2, and Fallout 3? All pretty damn different. I fail to see a lack of variety here. Plus there's the GTA IV DLC. You're just being ignorant, with your blinkered nintendo fanboy view that anything without cartoony graphics is the same.
And isn't Unleashed identical between consoles other than for graphics....? Certainly looks like that from what we've seen, so that's another game.
So in 2 months we're getting possibly 5 AAA titles. Yeah that sure does suck. Not to mention there's games I'm probably forgetting, they're just the ones I want.
Marty @ Oct 2nd 2008 2:25PM
Funny pic, Joystiq.
Mr Khan @ Oct 2nd 2008 2:29PM
Sweet. The Conduit, Fire Emblem, Sin & Punishment, and Punch Out are all on my radar. Added to MadWorld and Sonic Black Knight which already were.
2009 is looking better and better. Especially by comparison.
tmacairjordan87 @ Oct 2nd 2008 2:33PM
Thought you weren't a shooter guy Mr Khan, which is why you didn't really want a ps3/360. Why does the Conduit appeal to you then? I mean, other than being a wii only game ;)
Xera077 @ Oct 2nd 2008 2:39PM
Because Jordan.....
Maybe I don't want to suck with one console? I mean look at the 360 this upcoming winter. Two games, Fable 2 and....GoW2. Who-hoo.
Of course PS3 has LBP which seems to more awesome and Resistance 2 which looks amazing and plenty others.
What's wrong with owning a Wii?
Also 360 has more RPGS than shooters. So again you are wrong. Jordan your nothing but a tiny little troll living in a basement.
Mr Khan @ Oct 2nd 2008 2:40PM
I'm not opposed to shooters (Metroid Prime best game of all time plug again), I was just never into the competitive FPS scene.
Most everyone has a need for a good twitch shooter once in a while, though. An itch that, for me, hasn't been scratched since Metroid Prime Hunters. The Conduit is a game that's good for a platform to have in small doses, just when the majority of your lineup is dominated by realistic SciFi games (Dead Space, Mirror's Edge, Left 4 Dead, Resistance 2, Gears 2, all this fall), it gets kinda dry. If i were a PS360 owner, i would only embrace one of them (probably either Left 4 Dead because Valve is win, or Mirror's Edge just because of how much a thrill it seems to be), but not get excited for all of them, like many are doing.
tmacairjordan87 @ Oct 2nd 2008 2:52PM
"What's wrong with owning a Wii?"
Oooh don't get me going with that topic.
Well Fed Troll @ Oct 2nd 2008 3:07PM
Khan explained himself very well on his take on the FPS genre...
Even though we can be stubborn on topics i cant sit back and say "owning a Wii is wrong"...
I do feel that JUST owning a Wii, is somewhat of a set back. But hey, to each his own. If you own it and are satisfied, so be it.
Heh (Mr. ESC, living in the hearts of us all) @ Oct 2nd 2008 3:13PM
""What's wrong with owning a Wii?"
Oooh don't get me going with that topic."
Does it help you sleep better at night knowing that you've wasted bits of your life arguing about a console that will become obsolete in only a few years?
tmacairjordan87 @ Oct 2nd 2008 3:20PM
That's just it though, I'm not going to argue about it. It was obsolete the day it came out to me.
Heh (Mr. ESC, living in the hearts of us all) @ Oct 2nd 2008 3:28PM
"That's just it though, I'm not going to argue about it. It was obsolete the day it came out to me."
Yeah, you must take pride in being a fanboy. Never understood fanboys, tbh.
knighty (GT: ZeraKnight) @ Oct 2nd 2008 4:51PM
If "Dead Space, Mirror's Edge, Left 4 Dead, Resistance 2, Gears 2" are what you refer to as realistic....Christ.....non cartoony != realistic.
Forza = realistic
Pro Evo = realistic
Dopple Boppler @ Oct 2nd 2008 2:31PM
So how about a post about Cave Story coming to WiiWare? As awesome as Punch-Out and Sin and Punishment 2 are, Cave Story deserves some spotlight.
Nigeria @ Oct 2nd 2008 2:34PM
I really wish this silly obsession with core-hardcore would just waggle away.
It's a word that hardly means anything, and it encourages lazy thinking.
And like Khan says, 09 is looking rather heavyweight: Sin and Punishment is going to be awesome.
Patrick @ Oct 2nd 2008 2:52PM
Still doesn't make up for the fact that there are no games for the hardcore gamer this fall...
Erik Stroud @ Oct 2nd 2008 3:00PM
I know, but, atleast we have some stuff to look forward too. Though, it wont be until next year.
Vidikron @ Oct 2nd 2008 2:45PM
Well, I'm interested in the new Punch-Out... hopefully it won't be ruined by motion controls or being a dumbed down everybody wins casual game. And my wife needs new DS, but they are going to make a wait a while. The loading from SD cards for the Wii is nice and very much needed. But it's something we need now, not half a year from now. I don't really care about the rest.
But lets see... a new DS hardware revision with some new features, including non-gaming related features. The battery life has taken a big hit and is now at PSP levels. And BC has been cut. Sounds a lot like Sony doesn't it?
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread) @ Oct 2nd 2008 2:47PM
well this DSi doesnt really exicted me. i aleady have devices with all the time that can do all those things. ill probably just stick to my DS Lite for now even though the DSi store is appealling.
new Mario & Luigi RPG and a new Punchout have me giddy though. and thats not what i had in mind when they said they were workin on a new Pikmin. oh well, myabe we get an Iron Mike appearance in Punchout for old times sake.
xLV426x @ Oct 2nd 2008 2:49PM
I hate what nintendo has become.
Sasha @ Oct 2nd 2008 2:59PM
Joystiq! Why no Cave Story love? That game was FUCKING AWESOME! Hopefully this will make Pixel a very rich Japanese man.(lol)
He deserves it. (every penny)
CodeMunki @ Oct 2nd 2008 3:08PM
ubermeh. The time to sell my Wii is getting closer and closer. I could probably get enough for it to buy 1/3 of the 360, PS3, and PC games I plan on buying before the end of the year.
TwEE @ Oct 2nd 2008 4:07PM
Sell it already..
Isnt owning a 360, PS3, and a gaming PC kind of redundent?
Jack of No Trades 85 @ Oct 2nd 2008 3:08PM
I really really feel sorry for all the Nintendo fanboys out there.
That game line-up is very very pathetic.
If the conduit was on the 360/PS3 is would already be tossed out by the Nintendo community for being generic.
tmacairjordan87 @ Oct 2nd 2008 3:19PM
Don't feel bad for them. They've already convinced themselves that that lineup is somehow good. Agreed on the conduit situation though, it would just be another boring repetitive dark shooter on the 360/ps3 and they would make sure we knew that too.
Mr Khan @ Oct 2nd 2008 3:32PM
tmac, man, you keep forgetting that your opinion != fact. This isn't Imagination Land.
TwEE @ Oct 2nd 2008 4:03PM
Jack and tmac, yes the conduit would be ignored on the ps3 or 360, because it would be just anonther sci-fi shooter on a console that already has too many..
But on the wii it will stand out partly because of the lack of sci-fi shooters on the system and the wiimote control (which can take a tired old concept and make it fun again)..
tmacairjordan87 @ Oct 2nd 2008 5:01PM
Which doesn't change the fact that nintendo fanboys have always slammed and dogged the other two systems for mediocre sci fi shooters, but now that the wii is getting one you're all excited.
time @ Oct 2nd 2008 7:13PM
The reason people are getting excited for generic sci-fi shooter is that the Wii can do that genre much better than either the PS3 or the XBox 360, and it's a potential that hasn't been tapped yet.
knighty (GT: ZeraKnight) @ Oct 2nd 2008 9:04PM
Says who? Given the choice between gorgeous immersive visuals (I love staring at the absolutely stunning artwork in Halo 3, it simply wouldn't be the same without it) and dual analogue vs Wiimote I know which I'd be choosing. (Plus I prefer dual analogue anyway, I still think the Wiimote is extremely imprecise for shooting personally).
Anyone who claims something like Halo, Gears etc could be done better on the Wii has no idea what they're talking about, though I'd rather not start a silly graphics vs gameplay argument.
That being said, The Conduit looks pretty nice, but still fairly mediocre against current FPS's elsewhere. You can't judge a game's quality because of the console it's on. If someone released a platformer on the 360 that was good in comparison to other platformers on the 360, it doesn't instantly make it a good game overall. (Arbitrary genre here, doesn't really matter with the point I'm making).
KeegdnaB @ Oct 2nd 2008 3:21PM
Still....where the hell is disaster?
