IGN has confirmed that the "Play on Wii" Pikmin port is more than just a repackaging -- it and the other Play on Wii GameCube games will have updated Wiimote controls. Pikmin is actually the second of these to be released, and it'll hit Japan on December 25 of this year for 3,800 yen ($36). It'll be preceded on December 11 by the game we officially nominate Least Likely to Benefit from New Controls: Donkey Kong Jungle Beat. If these games are released here, we would expect them to be slightly cheaper than the Japanese price (like all games).
Titles announced for 2009 include Mario Tennis, Metroid Prime 1 and 2, Pikmin 2, and -- best of all -- Chibi-Robo! It'll be interesting to see if Skip makes it a point-and-click like it was originally.

I'm glad I never got around to the Metriod titles. This is gonna be great with Wii controls :)

Hmm, I really don't think $30 (I'm assuming it would cost that in North America) is justified for Pikmin, when I can (and did) get a used copy for $10. Now, if *both* Pikmin games were on a disc for $30-$35, it would be a great deal. Same goes for Metroid Prime.

Hell yeah!! Metroid Prime and Chibi-Robo!! I need to go change my pants now.

I'd possibly play Pikmin with Wii Controls, and Chibi Robo. Not sure about Metroid Prime, I didn't care much for 3, it was interesting but not my bag. Maybe 1 and 2 will be better? I tried playing 1 with GC controls and stopped after 10 minutes.

I'm hoping the Prime titles come in a set. I don't think I could justify paying $60 for both titles. Prime 1 was easily my favorite of the series, while Prime 2 was my least favorite.. and while I would love to replay Prime with Wii-based controls, it would suck to pay an extra $30 "for completion sake."

Lots of incredible news to take in today, but I'd have to say that I'm most excited about MP1&2 being Wii'd. As someone who never owned a Gamecube, I never could stand using it's controller, and although I tried to get into MP1&2 after buying my Wii, I couldn't because of the controls. Now I can get what I've been missing out on with a controller setup I love. Win.

Oh maybe they'll do Animal Crossing.
No wait, they are just renaming it and selling it for $50 :-D

I'm interested in seeing how the Metriod games turn out with with Wiimote controls as I really never liked the standard controls on the Cube.

Cubivore would be a great title for this.

How would Donkey Kong not benefit from Wii controls? I would assume they are just going to do away with the drums and just use a wiimote and nunchuk.

I'll definitely pick up Pikmin 1 & 2 if they are in a set. Otherwise, i'll probably just buy one or the other. Though if there's waggle Pikmin throwing or even better, point and click to show the Pikmin where to go, I'll probably rethink buying :) .
And, I have MP1 on the GC, so unless it and MP2 come in a set, I also won't be buying.
(Thank god for me being able to get a job in '09! :P)

I've been hoping they would remix Zelda: The Wind Waker for the Wii for quite a while now. I think it'd be an overall better game than Twilight Princess if it had Wii controls and widescreen formatting.

I have MP1 and 2 already, so I can't really justify buying them again, unless they are a set.

I wonder if I want to rebuy Metroid Prime 1 for the Wii-mote functionality; but I am going to buy the 2nd which they are still being sold, used, for 20.00. 10.00 more for a fresh, new copy and with Wii-mote functionality: gimme!
I would also like see Geist as well. >:D

I really really hope the Wii controls on Metroid Prime 1 and 2 are as good as they were on 3. I'll be buying all of them if they are

these games are already available on the wii, used for $5-10

Chibi Robo and Pikman play fine with cube controllers, but I can really see Metroid being worth buying again.
Though everyone knows it's just a cash grab. I mean the system is backwards compatible. Could've sold the system for less if you were just going to do this by excluding backwards compatibility.

METROID PRIME 1 FTW!
*calms down*
Oh man. I'm actually currently re-playing through Metroid Prime since it was my personal favorite Prime game, and my personal favorite Metroid game, and with updated Wiimote controls, I'm going to love the game even more. I know everyone loves Super Metroid to death, and while I agree with that Super Metroid is a great game, I think Prime was a perfect transition to 3D. Think A Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time for Zelda, where Prime is my Ocarina of Time, and Super is my Link to the Past.
Can't wait!

Zelda OoT, Zelda MM, Zelda WW, Zelda 4 Swords (with wifi and ds link support)
Metroid Series is also nice. I never played them for Gamecube and it was primarily because I refused to play FPS that used Dual joysticks.
Pikmin is also a series I missed out on for the gamecube, but it sounds like it would benefit greatly from the Wii controls.
I kinda wonder if Mario Sunshine and Luigi's Mansion might benefit from Wiimote functionality.

If they're updating the games for the Wii, maybe Metroid Prime 2 will have online multiplayer using Nintendo WiFi Connection?

Except for having to make it so the drive could load gamecube discs, not very easy considering how it loads discs.
I think if these ports are more than just added wii controls it will be easily worth $20-$30 unless you are bored of the gc version.

Very nice. These are some titles I was interested in, but I despise the GC controller. Now I'll get the best of both worlds.

i think its great that nintys doing the whole "play on Wii" thing, but theres others who would disagree saying that they could just buy and your right! you could just buy it.......if you can find what you want! did you know mp1 and FE:PoR can't be found in stores? believe me! i checked nearly EVERY store. there were TON and TONS of titles that i couldn't find anymore more! starwars rouge leader: rouge squadron 2 anyone? anyways i think its great because:
1) we atcually FIND the titles we want.
2) its CONVINIENT. no need to bust your chops going around looking for a certain GCN game. just download it and play. simple as that.

This is the worst thing that could possibly happen to an already lazy and dodgy Wii game development environment.
The last thing in the world Nintendo needed to do was encourage more last-gen ports. Is this all we're ever going to get? Does this mean that all those people that call the Wii: Gamecube 1.5 are actually being generous?

Those games are hard to find right now. I would gladly pick up a copy of Pikmin with wii controls cause I never played it before... and I think that's the case with most Wii owners.
