Update: Nintendo will NOT publish The Conduit
[Update: Whoops! Looks like Ms. Dunaway misspoke – The Conduit is not an "exclusive first-party shooter" ... it's an "exclusive first-person shooter." D'oh! Still no word on a publisher but we've got an email into the cats at High Voltage. Our original post is tucked safely below the break.]
[Original: After building so much hype as a publisher-less, motion-plussed, sci-fi shooter for (gasp) the Nintendo Wii, The Conduit now has home at Nintendo -- surprise! (okay, not really). At Nintendo's fall media summit, Cammie Dunaway is now calling it a "first-party" title. Does that mean developer High Voltage Software has been bought by the House of Mario or is this some sort of second-party arrangement? We'll have more details as the story develops.]

WOOOO! Finally Nintendo delivers to the core audience! Now gimme Zelda Wii and I'll take back all the mean things I said at E3!!
nightmare452 @ Oct 2nd 2008 12:44PM
Same here! WOHO!! Finally, at least I now got ONE game to look forward to on my Wii, and I started to think it was only a dust collector as of late. YAY!
ZaxCG2 @ Oct 2nd 2008 1:54PM
You can't look to E3 for the big news anymore. I miss the good ol' days when I stayed up all night looking at new info from the E3 conference. I'm glad they're doing it their own way now.
Here's hoping they'll give us Mario hats. :3
Blank-Mage @ Oct 2nd 2008 8:06PM
Er, Twilight Princess?
CJLopez @ Oct 2nd 2008 12:43PM
Dam, friend codes....
hope they aint in there, but, given this, is more probable than ever!!!!!
MowDownJoe @ Oct 2nd 2008 12:46PM
High Voltage will probably beg for the tech used in Mario Kart that let you send your friend codes to anyone in your address book.
CABALLOTE @ Oct 2nd 2008 12:43PM
Wow. The Conduit looks extremely good. Now I might wish I had the Wii when it comes out. heh
BigDaddyBooth @ Oct 2nd 2008 12:46PM
Yeah, it looks good. Still not enough to get me to pay for a Wii though.
xFenixKnightx (Mr ESC Resurrection Force) @ Oct 2nd 2008 12:50PM
Dude, sweet avatar.
Mr Khan @ Oct 2nd 2008 12:47PM
The clues were there for those to read them. Motion Plus took everyone by surprise, but High Voltage got to use it. No 3rd party has said a thing about Wii Speak, but High Voltage was using it.
The only negative out of all this, of course, is friend codes. But High Voltage has promised to try to minimize their hated impact. A lobby system is there.
FSK405K @ Oct 2nd 2008 3:15PM
It could be the "gamer killer app" that everyone's been waiting for!? (unlike the "gamers-hate-casual-killer apps" that Nintendo has been making)
twesterm @ Oct 2nd 2008 12:50PM
I bet she meant first person shooter and not first party shooter...
Park Zero @ Oct 2nd 2008 2:52PM
Congratulations! You win! twesterm
BPMOmega [gamertag] @ Oct 2nd 2008 1:00PM
I'm sure I (as well as many others) called it.
Nevertheless, interesting for Nintendo to pick up this title. Do they believe the project has worth? I hope so.
Kspraydad @ Oct 2nd 2008 1:00PM
Great for HVS employees and for Wii fans (I guess?) but looking at their catalog I don't think anyone will miss them on the other platforms.
Nigeria @ Oct 2nd 2008 1:04PM
Harvey Birdman was great. It was the first game that actually made me laugh.
I'd take another Birdman than this derivative whatever.
Jack of No Trades 85 @ Oct 2nd 2008 1:00PM
Oh its that FPS thats comming out on the Wii that every Nintendo fanboy loves, but the funny thing is that if it was on the other two consoles Nintendo fanboys would call it generic and sucky.
Nintendo fanboys are retarded.
PranaFerox @ Oct 2nd 2008 1:12PM
Yeah! Those Nintendo fanboys you just made up to fit your hypothetical situation? I hate those guys!
BPMOmega [gamertag] @ Oct 2nd 2008 1:15PM
"All fanboys are retarded."
Fixed that for ya.
Haggard (Mr.ESC died for our sins) @ Oct 2nd 2008 1:24PM
Reminds me of KZ2.. ;)
But I agree with you about The Conduit.
religiousjedi @ Oct 2nd 2008 1:46PM
Aha- oh wait...I couldn't laugh.
Considering that developers put generic shooter #1000 on PS3 and Xbox360, yes, you'd get the Ninty fanboys shouting that out. However...since this is generic shooter #...uh, how many FPS are there on Wii? 5, 6?...on the WIi, you've got the fans excited.
Having played Corruption and Heroes 2 and enjoying how the controls were implemented, I'm pretty excited about The Conduit.
(P.S.: also had a feeling Nintendo was gonna publish this. *sigh* FC anyone?)
In A World (XBL) @ Oct 2nd 2008 5:54PM
Jack off, are you trying to get yourself banned again? When are you gonna realize it doesn't matter what other people like or dislike?
D_Average @ Oct 2nd 2008 1:02PM
Nintendo publishing the Conduit, "Now thats change we can believe in!"
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Oct 2nd 2008 1:11PM
That's good. And if Nintendo themselves are publishing, I think that means that more people would be willing to buy this game because of the Nintendo brand name.
Gun Barrier @ Oct 2nd 2008 1:18PM
High Voltage is the new Rare. :)
Blank-Mage @ Oct 2nd 2008 8:09PM
But... I like the OLD Rare.
Xav de Matos @ Oct 2nd 2008 1:20PM
Damn, The Conduit looks hot!
Mike @ Oct 2nd 2008 1:25PM
Hmmmm, this one actually looks a bit interesting.
Tez (PSN: Tezasaurus) @ Oct 2nd 2008 1:40PM
Smart move.
brian @ Oct 2nd 2008 1:50PM
i have psp games with better graphics.
I'm not saying graphics make a game, but piss poor graphics in this day and age is not excusable.
shouryuuken @ Oct 2nd 2008 2:58PM
sweet let me get some of those games.. because the 20 or so umds i have and the isos ive played from my memory stick all look sub par with the ps2.. which the wii has beat.
Blank-Mage @ Oct 2nd 2008 8:11PM
When your PSP isn't charging or killing its' own pixels. Meanwhile, the DS can withstand temperatures of up to 9000 degrees.
nobo @ Oct 4th 2008 10:41PM
@Blank-Mage
its over 9000!
acefondu @ Oct 2nd 2008 1:53PM
Does anyone else look at screenshots of Conduit and think "Tron FPS?"
Blank-Mage @ Oct 2nd 2008 8:11PM
Tron FPS FTW.
WiNG [Life in a Game] @ Oct 2nd 2008 2:07PM
I just sold my Wii this week.
Looking at the 360 lineup, I'm not that jealous of the Conduit.
shouryuuken @ Oct 2nd 2008 8:56PM
thats funny.. i sold my 360 long ago (to get an elite), and when i got another, it was missing hdmi so i returned it to the store. it took them so long to get one with hdmi in, i ended up buying a second wii with the store credit.
that was over a year ago, and looking at the 360s line up this fall.. i dont care. only thing thats could make me get a 360 is street fighter IV, oh wait.. ill just get it for ps3.
Mr Khan @ Oct 2nd 2008 2:59PM
Default response time:
We won't miss you, bye.
Vcize @ Oct 2nd 2008 2:25PM
So what are people looking forward to about this game? All I know so far is that it's a first person shooter, which obviously is not enough alone to entice me. What other details have been released that have people looking forward to it?
TwEE @ Oct 2nd 2008 3:15PM
Not really hard to figure out.. its Wiimote control.
Blank-Mage @ Oct 2nd 2008 8:13PM
It looks shiny, and that's a big seller with me.
Gonzo @ Oct 3rd 2008 2:37PM
Now that's what I'm talking about.
We don't just want new Mario and Zelda games. Nintendo needs a new core franchise for hardcore gamers who started on the NES but are grown-up now. Hopefully this will be it.
Park Zero @ Oct 2nd 2008 2:46PM
After reading these comments the update to the article is funny in a sad ironic kind of way. First party shooter vs First Person Shooter. Its and easy mix-up if your not a gamer.
Blank-Mage @ Oct 2nd 2008 8:16PM
I think the non-gamer audience here is about as relevant as emotions are to The Borg.
Park Zero @ Oct 2nd 2008 2:49PM
Congratulations! You win!
Mr Khan @ Oct 2nd 2008 3:01PM
So, wait, i was wrong?
Huh, whaddaya know. I just assumed that Nintendo would never be so kind as to give such access to a 3rd-party (especially as untested a 3rd party as HVS)
Park Zero @ Oct 2nd 2008 3:08PM
No you just assumed that Nintendo would do what you want them to so that you the Nintendo gamer will continue to be a happy paying customer. It’s an easy mistake to make. I’ve done it too.
Blank-Mage @ Oct 2nd 2008 8:22PM
Oh, Khan, you're never wrong. But rest assured, when you are, a sizable group of comments will let you know. That's the great thing about the internet, bringing people closer together, so we can berate them.
Ethan @ Oct 2nd 2008 3:43PM
My god she is such a stupid, demographic-ticking waste of space. It's like she's intentionally crap (which would be genius) to reassure investors about how wonderfully approachable they are.
Mike Sylvester @ Oct 2nd 2008 5:53PM
I'm not really sure if this is the place to discuss U.S. vice presidential candidates.
