Nintendo's pedometer tied to DS fitness game
Though we still feel the less traditional application of a pedometer is the more prudent one -- you never know how many pedophiles could be in the area -- Nintendo has decided to stick with one that merely counts steps. Judging by one of the videos shown during its recent presentation in Japan, the trademarked device will be tied (at least initially) to a Nintendo DS fitness title. The promotional material seems to indicate that it will be out in November. The presence of the pedometer indicates that it will require physical activity on our behalf. Therefore, we think it unlikely that the number of steps taken to procure it will exceed zero.
Maybe if the FedEx guy sticks it in the refrigerator.

I read that as Pedo-meter first... As in Pedobear.
I think this means I'm ruined as a human being.
Haggard (Mr.ESC died for our sins) @ Oct 2nd 2008 5:35PM
Don't worry, every article about the pedo-meter has already made that pun/joke
WiiFTW @ Oct 2nd 2008 5:48PM
I think this means you are a return visitor to the Internets.
Mr Khan @ Oct 2nd 2008 5:38PM
Called it. I'm on a roll.

Two Questions:
1.What's is this event again?
2.Are we going to have a similar wave of 360 news(happy me!)?
Mr Khan @ Oct 2nd 2008 5:59PM
This is the Nintendo Media Summit, which (apparently) is now an annual thing.
In a week or so (when exactly does TGS start?) you will get more 360, PS3, and PSP news, since Nintendo doesn't attend, though with all the great Japanese Wii & DS games coming, they won't really be left out either.
Badger_badger_badger @ Oct 2nd 2008 6:03PM
huh?

Thanks, Khan.

You know, I would laugh my head off if this comes out needing the GBA port.
Killjebus @ Oct 2nd 2008 6:18PM
Whatever happened to Spaceworld? I used to look forward to that event. Man, the Nintendo I knew does NOT exist anymore.
bug frawg @ Oct 3rd 2008 7:16AM
So the name of the event is more important than them actually announcing games now?
Youthinized @ Oct 2nd 2008 7:01PM
The only reason I'm looking forward to this is that the lite will price drop to that nice range of 99.99, so my cheap ass can finally upgrade!

Ok, I'll be the one to bring it up.
The word for someone with a sick interest in children is - paedophile.
By changing the spelling, you (Americans) have actually changed the entire meaning.
Ped is to do with the foot (e.g. pedal). So by your own logic a pedophile is someone who has an abnormal, persistent, irrational love of feet.
Messing with old spellings is neither witty or smart.
Stop it.
DBuck_Eye @ Oct 2nd 2008 7:34PM
Actually the words pedophile and paedophile are synonyms and as such, can be used interchangeably.
RobLink (Alex Kidd incarnate) @ Oct 2nd 2008 7:47PM
Good call that man.

You have no colour now, I cast you from the order and from the Council.

Luckily, only Americans use the improper form of the word, and the rest of the world doesn't have to muck around with stupid puns.
It's "paedophile". No one else says "pedophile", because it's wrong.
LocalToast @ Oct 2nd 2008 7:36PM
It looks like a security alarm remote for the DSi.
Frogain @ Oct 2nd 2008 7:47PM
The title of this really got me scared, I though that Nintendo was going to include a pedos detector on the next DS to keep little girls safe.
I was like OH-Shit
Ah nvm its not that kind of pedometer.
aj @ Oct 3rd 2008 3:55AM
I'm actually excited about a DS pedometer, because I walk an ungodly amount and would be curious to actually see just how much I walk in the course of a normal day.
.....Of course I could just buy one of those 2$ plastic things, but.....just shut up!
Guiltyspark @ Oct 3rd 2008 10:43AM
I can't help but feel like Japan is trying to insinuate something about us as a culture in the US by releasing so many fitness games...
Oh I know what it is! They know we will buy every iteration of them!
