Nintendo has announced that it will be releasing "Wii de Asobu" (Play on Wii) Selections, GameCube titles remade for the Wii. Not including last year's Resident Evil 4 remake, President Satoru Iwata revealed at today's Japanese press conference that Pikmin will be the first title to receive a Wii makeover. We're really hoping this isn't the Pikmin title Miyamoto revealed at E3.

"You can buy all these games for like $5 now"
Wow. What game store have you been using? Most of the games listed are within the $20-$30 range. and it would be far expensive to try hunting down a new copy of the game.

I don't know about you but I like to buy my games brand new. I didn't have the cube cause let's face it, the ps2 had most of the good games and when they hit the 20 bucks price point it was heaven for customers.
I have a wii now, and I've been tracking gamecube games I missed and I have found some very cheap, but most Nintendo titles are still $20 to $30. I wouldn't mind easier to find remakes of those titles at $30. Specially if they make the gameplay better like it happened with RE4.

If only they could remake something to allow me the reason to finally dust off my Wii.

I guess this is Nintendo's way of telling casual players that they had all these great games in the last several years, and are apologizing for no one being interested in playing them since the controller then looked like something from the mind of H. G. Wells.

Okay, here's how it goes.
• Yes, fanboys do fall for gimmicks, like me, but this is actually more than a gimmick, unlike new DS colors. Actually, I know for a fact that people all over have been really wanting every game coming out for "Play For Wii" remade for wii for a looong time.
• They will be cheaper, and yes, there are many people who have never played Pikmin OR Chibi Robo.
• You can, in fact NOT buy Gamecube games for $5. They usually cost $30 or more.
• None of these games, except Mario Tennis are casual games. They are all considered fairly hardcore nintendo.

What I find funny is that people think that their leaving Nintendo because they aren't making enough hardcore titles is going to make a difference.
Look, making all of these casual titles and rehashes is getting Nintendo hand over fist in cash. Frankly, from a pure business standpoint, it's plain smart and profitable to push out these titles that are easy on costs. I mean consider how much effort it takes to make something like Wii Play compared to something like Fallout 3, and Wii Play sold like hotcakes.
Ultimately, it wouldn't hurt people to branch out and, heaven forbid, try something different with the consoles that actually cater to a hardcore audience.
