"Oh, who cares about that thing?" you ask aloud, paying no heed to your alarming habit of vocally addressing the internet. "I can't wait to get that newly announced Nintendo DSi! I don't need no G'bah slot." You pause briefly, ignoring the dire grammar in your previous sentence in favor of concocting something humorous. "I say G'bye to it. Oh, that was clever."
It wasn't. And you're pathetic.
Also, you might just be a tad hasty. As MTV Multiplayer's Stephen Totilo points out, there are several things you won't be able to do on Nintendo's wondrous new device. No Game Boy Advance games -- but will those be offered for download from the DSi store? -- and certainly no rumble cartridges. There won't be any room for your collection of weird-peripheral games either, with Arkanoid losing its paddle pizazz and Guitar Hero: On Tour bidding farewell to its frets.
Though the DSi won't arrive in the US until "well into 2009" and, despite its technological tweaks, be unable to magically transform every DS Lite out there, publishers will no doubt have to start planning new games and, oh yes, new peripherals. We're looking at you, Activision (and we've contacted you about it).

I always hated the the DS couldn't play Game Boy and Game Boy Colour games.
But the SP can, so I'm thinking of getting one of those for 10$ off CraigsList. DSi problem solved.

I'm gonna probably sell my DS Lite and PSP to get this baby. I have a Gameboy Micro Famicom edition that stays in my pocket everywhere I go so I can live without gba games poking out of my DS Lite.
Besides I generally only play the Gameboy Micro anyway, always have SMB3, Astro Boy, or one of the other countless GBA classics lodged in it. You can find them on clearance brand new for less than 25 bucks anywhere locally. I got a few Famicom ones for 25 bucks each and sold em for 150 a pop on ebay a long while ago.

Can someone point me to a GBA with a backlight as good as the DS Lite's? Then maybe I'll get this.

False! GBA slot will be missed! I lament it's passing. It is being replaced for a low rez camera...might be nice if your a japanese school girl, but not if your a serious professional who likes his GBA fix on a long bus commute!

I think the big story is that I won't be able to upload my Mudkips from Emerald to Platinum.
Ah well, I'll keep my black/blue Lite around for that. I have a backup anyway.

Oh no, I won't be able to play the shitty GH DS games or use the rumble pack that only supports a handful of games I'll never play anyway. I don't need the GBA slot. I'll keep my DS Phat (or buy a GBA Micro) to play GBA games like I do with my original GBA to play GBC games. Speaking of which, Nintendo still needs to release Pokemon TCG 2 in countries that aren't Japan.

The lackl of GBA slot is kinda a big deal for those with M4, maybe that was Nintendos intention with that?
Probably not, as I simply wont upgrade and Nintendo just looses that easy DS sale.
So more like a moral revenge on pirates, they know we want the latest gadget and now theyve made that beautifull thing basically useles.

OOOOH NOOO! Hopefully, yeah, DS will have a virtual console, too, so that you can download any portable games to the DS and then use them normally. Actually, this is a good idea. Hope it happens. Anyways, HOW WILL WE TRANSFER POKAYMONS!

Hey Nin..... you do relaise forcing people to NOT use their GBA/GB carts means they will be putting roms on a SD cart....right?
Make a simple converter card for the DS slot.... common Nin keep BWC a focal point of design....

they can't force you not to use them because there are a ton of devices that play gba carts already(gba, sp, micro, player, phat, lite, a special portable dvd player) and you can probably buy gb/gbc/gba games in the online store.
if someone pirates nintendo's software there's little that would convince them not to.

I said force you not to, as they move the DS line forward they are forcing out the older library, they can make up for it by making a simple conversion cart setup to play your carts on it and other normal DS stuff but why? you sell new stuff and make more profit and disenfranchise thos that own a large library of of older games.
Also they are not ready to sell GBA/DS games that can be used on the DS hey will need to make a whole new DRM setup for that.
Altho if they can limit GBA prices to no more than 3$ 5-10 for DS titles its a whole new means of distribution point for portable games.

Ahh, I could almost see the narrowed eyes in that "and you're pathetic" line.
And, In solution to the lack of peripheral happiness, I give you four letters: SDIO.
