TKO! New Punch-Out!! coming to Wii in 2009
At a press conference in Japan, Nintendo announced that a new Punch-Out!! game will be coming to the Wii. No other related news is currently available, but we're guessing it'll share some similarities with the boxing stage from Wii Fit.
Update: Check out videos right here, where Punch-Out!! is shown as a 2009 release.

YES! Hopefully enhanced with Wii motion plus.
And where the hell is Super Punch Out for the virtual console?
CesarSalad @ Oct 2nd 2008 2:16AM
dude, I sure hope so because if it's anything like the freaking wii boxing... there is no point in buying it
Obie @ Oct 2nd 2008 2:20AM
Yeah no damn Mii's. The punch out series is known for those huge hand-drawn sprites...they better don't ditch that. I prefer the first two punch out games over any of the boxing games to this day.

Better have zee uppercut in it

There's a couple of seconds of footage here:

Great find! And I am glad they retained the look but made it 3-D ish!
Levi @ Oct 2nd 2008 3:49AM
Awesome find! There were so many games that caught my eye in that video. A Trace Memory Wii game? Hope it's more like Hotel Dusk than the original. And was that a brief glimpse of Sin & Punishment 2? And a whole lot of RPG games shown in that video too. Hope to hear more about those unknown games soon.

Have to admire Nintendo for letting E3 '08 happen while saving this gem (and Another Code 2 for Wii!) for two months later. Can't wait to find out more.

The Wii is the new NES..

Iwata dropped the bomb; frook the new DS and Wii Music, Punch-Out was the first game series I imagined being revived for Wii. It's about time.

Day one purchase for me. I love punch-out.

The 'hardcore' will still find some way to bitch about how Nintendo doesn't care, even after today's massive epic damage.
Sheppy (of the Fidlious Clan of Wong) @ Oct 2nd 2008 7:37AM
You're... you're talking about me, aren't you?
And Massive Damage? Dude... I saw some games to get excited about, but Massive Damage? All Nintendo really showed is that they are still making games. Golf Claps all around. Most of these games look like spruced up "same games." I don't get it. Sony and Microsoft catch no end of shit for doing the same thing but Nintendo gets applauded... oh well.
tmacairjordan87 @ Oct 2nd 2008 9:50AM
Punch out is epic damage? Really??? Ok well take the fact that I never cared about the series out, you're still saying a boxing game is hardcore and "epic damage".
You didn't see me laughing at you guys when the new Fight Night was announced. So sit down and relax, you're too desperate to rub it in to the doubters that you're grabbing at games that really aren't that much of a big deal. It'll basically be the boxing game in wii sports but with better graphics and no miis.
TwEE @ Oct 2nd 2008 2:22PM
Fuck the hardcore, they haven't a clue half the time anyway.
It'll be a happy day when they're driving back into the swamps where they belong..
AwesomeTown @ Oct 2nd 2008 7:35AM
I'm just thankful it's coming in 2009, I can't afford any more games this fall.
And there are a lot of good looking games in that conference video. A lot.
Leon @ Oct 2nd 2008 7:38AM
Was that Nintendogs at About 2:19? Or am I just hoping
McWeen @ Oct 2nd 2008 8:12AM
Cool stuff in the videos. I wonder how many of the Japanese Titles actually will make it Stateside.
Side note did I see a Haruhi clip in that montage?

Meh. More boring rehashes with waggle.
acefondu @ Oct 2nd 2008 9:21AM
Hopefully we're allowed to use buttons. Anyone else still having nightmares with Wii Boxing? *shudder*
Well Fed Troll @ Oct 2nd 2008 10:45AM
I agree Mr. Fondu,
Nothing wrong with being innovative but i feel some games should just utilize the classic controls and have "waggle" as an alternate control option.
Either way, IMO Punch Out is just as nostalgic as Street Fighter, if not more so in my age group (28yrs old).
kaneda @ Oct 2nd 2008 11:30AM
can anyone translate that @#$!@! vs Capcom title?
CJLopez @ Oct 2nd 2008 12:28PM
No one, as Tatsunoko is not a japanese word, but more of the name of the company that produced many of those anime that are featuring on the game

Mal F4cti0n @ Oct 2nd 2008 4:58PM
Cool.
After playing Boom Blox, I now have two reasons to keep my Wii.
Keep the fun coming, Nintendo.
GoonieGooGoo @ Oct 3rd 2008 1:59PM
Aaaah....the return of the most racist video game of all time.
I still love it despites its ridiculous racial stereotypes.
BuckNasti84 @ Oct 3rd 2008 11:28PM
thats so funny yet so true
GoonieGooGoo @ Oct 5th 2008 10:03AM
though technically.....I could never determine what stereotype King Hippo was.....maybe he was just a retard of some sort who likes to wear crowns.
