GT5 Prologue update now available, adds 3 new cars
Or, as SCEA producer Taku Imasaki puts it on the PlayStation Blog, "NEW CARS!!" He's very excited. Wouldn't you be too, if a free update to Polyphony Digital's Real But Not Real Enough To Crumple Up Your Ferrari Driving Simulator enabled three new rides and a host of gameplay tweaks?
When you next load up Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, you'll be able to download the "GT by Citroen" concept car (pictured), the Ferrari California and the Lotus Evora. Gameplay enhancements introduced by the update include alterations to the penalty system, race difficulty levels, wireless controller responsiveness, sound volume balance and Drift Trial races, which will now feature a rolling start.
A word of caution, however: "Rankings, arcade time trial times, drift trial records, as well as vehicle-specific quick tune settings and custom key layouts will all be reset with the new update. Replay data created before the second update will no longer be viewable after this update." That's the price of Prologue progress, we suppose.

Sweet. I was just thinking about having the GT in GTP yesterday. Now all I need is a HDTV for my ps3..
SoulBlade @ Oct 3rd 2008 11:00AM
Once you go HD, you won't ever go back.
I played this game with a Logitech steering wheel + pedals in front of a nice HD flat screen - the experience was amazing.

losing all your replays is a pretty steep price to pay, I hated that in Starcraft that every update would screw up your replays.
althought free content is free content.
SimbaDogg @ Oct 3rd 2008 2:33PM
i'm almost certain there's a way to back up your replays to a USB drive. When GT5 did their first update a while back i backed up all my game saves (all games) to a USB drive and put them on my pc...JIC. it didn't erase the game data, but i would imagine there'd be a way to save replays from the game. I hope there is, because i have some replays that i was able to save from GT1,2,3,4 which are now on my PS3
ThePunisher @ Oct 3rd 2008 10:11AM
That car is quite sexy.
The-E @ Oct 3rd 2008 10:25AM
I have gotta say updates that delete your old times and replays is kinda pointless...
The-E @ Oct 3rd 2008 10:26AM
but that car is sex....possibly even sex that is on fire....

Maybe this update will fix my problems with the failed update download that has blocked me from playing this game online. have any other had such problems?
Invisible Robot Meat @ Oct 3rd 2008 11:32AM
It took me at least half a dozen tries to download the initial update to be able to play on line, because I kept getting download errors. Now when I went to download this update, it says that if you encounter an error while downloading the update to try again, and that it saves the part of the update you have already downloaded so that you dont have to start all the way from the beggining. It only took 2 tries this time.

I could care less about new cars. I want more tracks.
Maverick Saturn @ Oct 3rd 2008 11:18AM
Who in thier right mind doesn't want more cars! Whats wrong with you?
*Throws more cars at you and buries you in a pile of them*
Eat that! Ha!

Nice update! it's almost like getting a new game!
Titanium_Orchid @ Oct 3rd 2008 12:21PM
Hopefully one of these cars will help me beat the last tier of races
CABALLOTE @ Oct 3rd 2008 1:11PM
Hey, you think you can transfer your save after the update and still keep all your stats? Just a thought
btw, is this game even worth it? My brother keeps telling me its hot but...it never caught my interest, it does look good and the new cars look pretty awesome. But I don't want a pretty looking game with crappy gameplay, no crash mechanic and nobody playing online.
uh-oh polio @ Oct 3rd 2008 2:42PM
Id suggest if you DO end up buying this, to get the logitech wheel/pedals. Thats really the only way to play it. Oh and on a 1080p. I put the wheel and stuff about 3 feet away from the 42" screen and blast music and its a pretty dope experience.

Hey you retards that made this game, I just got Wipeout HD for $19.99 and it has voice chat and rooms and it hasn't had its first update, what is wrong with you people, 3 new cars, who gives a sh--! People who are good at this game only use 1 car anyway, either a s2000, Corvette, or Ford GT. and whats up with your stupid video service where you have to buy car shows. Get your game fixed and then worry about the bullsh--. You have had enough time to finish this game, and where is my GT for PSP, it was pictured on the box of my PSP when I purchased it years ago!!!
SimbaDogg @ Oct 3rd 2008 4:27PM
The first half of your comment, i'm not even going to take issue with it. But as far as buying the tv shows...what the fuck do you expect? So i guess itunes and amazon are idiots for charging people for stuff thats actually broadcast over the air like the office, lost and other shows? Seriously get your head outta your ass. as far as the best motoring for example, i actually spent about $15 bucks a dvd for them years ago (have around 9-10 of them). One thing that you have to remember is, sony isn't in the business of illegal distribution.
Noshino @ Oct 3rd 2008 4:43PM
uh..I love WipEout but its nowhere near as complex as GT is...
But yah, I gotta admit, they have spent a lot of time in multiple things outside of GT, including the design of the GT-R's multifunction display.
klitorisaurus @ Oct 3rd 2008 4:11PM
My patience for Polyphony Digital is running real thin these days. Just give me the whole FUCKING game already!!!! God damn douche bags.
Zoesch @ Oct 3rd 2008 4:13PM
Yeah, how dare they incite your nerd raaaaaaaaaaaaaaage!
Go eat a chocolate bar or something.
uh-oh polio @ Oct 3rd 2008 4:58PM
The new Criteron or whatever is an electric car. It kinda sounds like
a plane taking off when you accelerate. Thats about the only coolthing about it besides its looks. Its fast no doubt, but it spins outentirely to easily. And in cockpit view its to hard to see anything
directly in front of you due to the speedometer and odd shape.
I give it a 7.5/10
