EGM's rumor-mongering editor amalgamation Quartermann has some info on another Capcom franchise that may get an update. Apparently Strider could be the next classic character to get a Bionic Commando upgrade, with the Q-mann saying that it could take on Devil May Cry-style gameplay.

Allegedly Kojima has been to FPS studios Infinity Ward (Call of Duty 4) and Guerrilla Games (Killzone 2) for reasons unknown. Maybe he's just trying to learn how to make aproper better multiplayer experience?

The NES Strider was a different game not a port of the arcade like the Genesis and PCE-CD versions.
The NES game was a great game unless you were expecting something comparable to the arcade.
Just like the 3 Ninja Gaidens on NES were nothing like the Genesis port of the arcade so I think your past flame war was a bit unfair.

Wow, that's a game I had completely forgotten about.
Capcom following the BC path would make sense. Remake the 2D version, followed by a 3D re-imagining of the franchise. I would expect them to wait and see how sales of the new BC do before greenlighting a full 3D, modern version.

I remember finding this game late in the Genesis's life cycle. You could barely find it in stores. I eventually found it at one of those stores. Where they have a catalog and computer. You add what you want on the computer then pay for it there. then you wait in a pickup line that has a treadmill bringing in the items from the warehouse. strider took an extra long time to showup. when strider finally appeared on the treadmill. the clerk told me. that was the last one and we almost couldn't find it. the box had thick dust on it. i was happy to get it though.

Does anyone remember how much the original Genesis version cost? I remember having to save up quite a bit when I was around fourteen years old. And I certainly remember gawking over the unbelievable graphics. 8MegaMemory FTW!

The two games from that era which I still play to this day are Strider and Bionic Commando. I can still beat it on one credit. The idea of a proper Strider remake or reinvisioning or reboot brings joy to my withered joypad thumb.
BTW, There have actually been two Strider sequels so far, Strider II and Strider 2. II was a pale Genesis cash-in quickly made by a different company, and Strider 2 was a Capcom remake in the PS1 days that suffered from frequent 20-second loads and a general lack of amazing moments. However, the PS1 Strider 2 actually came with an emulated version of the arcade Strider 1.
For the record, the best version IMHO was the PS1 remake. It had the visuals of the arcade, but the amazing audio work and some of the retuning of the genesis version. Unfortunately, in the Genesis version they re-timed a section of the last level to be basically impossible to do cleanly, and that also came across to the PS1.

Lightsword of doom was probably the most fun action game I played on the genesis. I'd love to see a remake.

my uncle gave me this game when i was like 10, it was so much fun. i never got a chance to play the PS1 version of the game but i can remember NEXT mag when PS2 came out showing the game with the upgraded graphics PS2 could do for PS1 games.
but it brings a tear to my eye that they would even consider it, im really happy as it was a well made game and deserves more ppl to know about it, PoPersia got 40,000 sequels and remakes its only fair.
and kojima on the warpath to make a FPS going to OTHER studios to see whats up is fascinating, i hope this materializes. and what an excellent move by teaming up with the best of the best to study how things OUGHT to be done, instead of saying I ARE KOJIMA, I CAN DO NO WRONG!!! i like that and respect him for it ... good move, humility should be rewarded with success, i wish him, his team and all of us the best of what he has to offer ... even if it isnt "perfect"
