Psh, my vocabulary doesn't obey Stephen Colbert.

Besides, I think the fact web games are more addicting than super-console-games sometimes -is- truth from the gut.

Shouldn't we judge comics by how funny they are?

@snarfoogle

Well obviously we should.

And luckily xkcd is the funniest web comic in all the land.

since when are all comics funny?

there "comics" not "comedy".

there's a difference.

No. Some comics are funny but with very little actual message, it might be un-concise, or the art may not be as good as others, or the writing fairly meh. Voting purely on comedic value is phail.

Sweet! I love Bloom County and would be happy with a tenth of that strips success. Just wondering about the comparison though, is it due to the animal characters?

A bit of the characters, drawing style and humor delivery all add up to the sub par bloom county experience.

I actually thought that the Monday Night Crew one was the funniest of this (quite poor) lot.

You'd think during the most frantic season of game releases webcomic makers would have something to talk about..

Gotta be the Braid Dueling Analogs strip. xkcd's strip is not very funny, kids. It's just true. Sad and true.

When did truth sop having merit!? Seriously, these posts are demoralising. The net statement of all those disappointed is "Why aren't they making me laugh!" Well a few of these comics aren't designed to be explicitly hilarious; that's what VGcats tries everytime, and is usually why it wins. People seem to think webcomics are exclusively for humour.

"Go Planet!"

Captain Planet, he's our hero
Gonna take pollution down to zero

He's our powers magnified
And he's fighting on the planet's side

Captain Planet, he's our hero
Gonna take pollution down to zero

Gonna help him put asunder
Bad guys who like to loot and plunder

"You'll pay for this Captain Planet!"

We're the Planeteers
You can be one too
'Cause saving our planet is the thing to do!

Looting and polluting is not the way
Hear what Captain Planet has to say!

"The Power is Yours!"

I usually make it a point not to vote for Penny Arcade. They're usually good, but the fanboyism surrounding them usually gets them more votes than I think they deserve. However, this week they absolutely deserved my vote.

I always look at each participant in the Webcomic Wrapup but I never vote. I have my biases towards Penny Arcade, but in general the type of humor and presentation is so different for each "contestant" that it is difficult to say which one is the "best".

However, this week I have to voice my opinion. There is so much that rings true with "A Trick of Retrospective" that I can't NOT vote for it. Not only is Mike Krahulik making leaps and bounds in his art, but this one is so genuine and well executed that I think it is one of the best comics I have seen period.

Isn't this what gaming is, in essence? Ditching adulthood for short periods at a time? There must be those that agree; Gabe has made a couple posts about the staggering popularity of this particular comic.

Aye, i think it would be better to have a rating system per comic than to actually vote. Voting gives one vote to one comic, leaving you no proper voice on how you felt about the others. Ratings would more accurately reflect each comic's performance

Would be a bit more time-consuming, but not much more so to those who read all the comics before voting anyway.

That reminds me I haven't passed a single level of Megaman 9 or finished Bionic Commando rearmed.

MM9 is kinda of hard but just because the space you have to perform a jump is very tight.

Except that remarkably enough, the article doesn't ask you to vote for the funniest webcomic, it asks you to vote for the best. And this week, as much as I totally agree with xkcd and love DU -- that's Penny Arcade, hands down.
