First Mega Man 9 DLC now on WiiWare, coming this week to XBLA/PSN

The remaining DLC -- Hero, Super and Special modes -- are expected October 20 for WiiWare, with the XBLA/PSN content presumably coming the same week.

I love having to buy modes!
Replica23 @ Oct 6th 2008 6:22AM
Yeah no shit. We get such an awesome value with Bionic Commando Rearmed then we get dime'd to death with this. Maybe BCR was written as part of the 3D budget.
JoeTheBlow @ Oct 6th 2008 9:43AM
I think BCR was written by american developers.
The japanese honestly don't seem to have a SINGLE FUCKING CLUE about the online world.
Not implementation (Metal Gear Online).....
not technically (lag, terrible lobby features)
nor its worth, hence the feeling that we'll pay for *any* little thing.
Makes me sad to see them struggle so.
Tehman @ Oct 6th 2008 6:15AM
Hmmmmmmm...... worth it?
I guess if you're Mega Man lover and want to get everything you can get out of the game..
Still it feels kind of cheap of Capcom to not just include these modes in the game itself
*shrugs*. My opinion I guess....
T @ Oct 6th 2008 8:02AM
I tried the demo, and while it was okay (REALLY miss the slide), once I read this news I said pass.
JoeTheBlow @ Oct 6th 2008 6:08AM
Just the beginning.
If Capcom and Namco had their way you'd be paying for each life, just like the old arcade days.
SKI @ Oct 6th 2008 8:37AM
Hmmm, would I pay for an arcade port if the game was free(or close to it) but I had to pay a quarter per life? Maybe for "The Simpsons."
BIGFAT @ Oct 6th 2008 6:27AM
i have yet to Buy the game so excuse my ignorance but wouldn't getting knocked back farther be more helpful rather then detrimental. It would be really beneficial in the beginning of the demo where they have those pits with the metal things in them, where you had to jump over them and if they hit you, you would fall right into the pit; i could just fall back a few feet feet farther and land back on the ground.
BIGFAT @ Oct 6th 2008 6:38AM
oh yeah, nice job joystiq for being the first one on this story, no other site has this news yet( that i know of).
AwesomeTown @ Oct 6th 2008 7:31AM
I can see having something like a new character like Proto Man as a paid download. I don't like it, but I can see it. What I can't believe is having to pay for harder difficulty levels. You guys talk about nickel and diming, that's more like criminal.
Cyantre @ Oct 6th 2008 8:39AM
I just checked and nothing is listed yet. I suspect that it won't be added until noon like the rest of the regular VC updates.
Stop the complaint about nickel and diming. A game like this would have cost $50 = $60 in its day and you can get it for $10. No one is making you buy the DLC, it's there for those who do want it.
T @ Oct 6th 2008 9:29AM
Key phrase being: "In its day."
We're not living in the days of the NES anymore. You can get a full NES game (with all codes/unlockables mostly intact) for $5 on the VC.
I was willing to give MM9 a pass for being $10 because it was a brand new game. But it doesn't get a pass for the nickle and diming simply because of what it WOULD have cost if it had released back when it would've still been "modern".
Cyantre @ Oct 6th 2008 10:00AM
QQ more.
DLC is optional, if you don't like it, don't buy it. $10 is more than reasonable for a brand-new NES game, especially one as good as Mega Man 9. Considering the plethora of crappy flash games passing for WiiWare games, $10 is more than reasonable. Hell the price could have been $20 or $30 and still have been worth it.
T @ Oct 6th 2008 11:16AM
You fail to provide an actual counterpoint. How does the fact it would have cost $50-60 "back in the day" justify the DLC now?
As far as the comparitive quality of the rest of the WiiWare lineup, that has nothing to do with the price of MM9 now does it? And I haven't bought any other WiiWare because I haven't felt like there's been anything worth buying.
zero2dash @ Oct 6th 2008 11:28AM
They did practically nothing on this game except recycle sprites and music from every other NES Mega Man game, spend a few hours retooling all of it, then releasing it as a "new" game. This isn't a "new" game. A monkey with an NES rom devkit could have made Mega Man 9 for free.
I love Mega Man and I always will, but for once I will agree that Capcom is milking gamers with this crap. And I *will* vote with my wallet and I *won't* buy Mega Man 9. Mega Man 2 is one of the greatest games of all time, but that doesn't mean that I can't see the forest from the trees and realize how much of a simple plug-and-play cash-in that MM9 is.
Cellien @ Oct 6th 2008 11:16AM
I haven't played a Mega Man, in a serious manner, in like 17 years. I picked up this demo and it kicked my fucking ass. Not worth the frustration these days. PASS. :)
ScottG13 @ Oct 6th 2008 1:37PM
This is utter crap. WAAAAY to close to release, especially for a DLC title. I don't support this kind of "support" with my dollars.
Roto13 @ Oct 6th 2008 5:04PM
There are a lot more differences with Proto Man than they were letting on.
StinkDude1 @ Oct 6th 2008 5:22PM
I don't see why everyone is complaining about the downloadable content. When you add up the total cost of MM9 and all of the DLC, you get $18. I don't know about you guys, but I would say that $18 is a reasonable price for a full new Mega Man game with 3 difficulty modes, Proto Man as a playable character, time trials (with a level that's not in the main game and online leaderboards), and an endless level (also with online leaderboards). But the great thing about having some things as DLC is that you don't have to pay for some features if you don't want them.
Oh, and @zero2dash: Capcom didn't just copy and paste old Mega Man sprites and music! They made a brand new game, with plenty of new enemies and a great new 8-bit soundtrack alongside some great level design and quite a few innovations. How is that a "simple plug-and-play cash-in"?!
Gewurz Man says: Shinkuu Gadouken! @ Oct 6th 2008 6:35PM
Unfortunately, Proto Man mode effectively IS a harder difficulty setting. No shop? dammit.
