Guitar Hero On Tour: Decades shreds retail November 16

First announced during E3, the encore performance will include a collection of master tracks pulled from the last 40 years, including Fall Out Boy, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Queen, as well as support wireless connectivity between both it and the original On Tour for competitive and co-op play. Not much else has been revealed, though something tells us that this November bus rides to work just got a little more awkward.

Why? And did they not get the memo about the DSi?
Fox318 @ Oct 6th 2008 9:27PM
When did Nintendo Announce it would be released in America in November? And America is gonna be like japan and re-buy a ds?
Sora @ Oct 6th 2008 9:28PM
It was announced during E3. The DSi was announced last week...
KeenCommander @ Oct 6th 2008 11:01PM
@Sora: If that's the first devs had heard of it, that would be a bad move on the part of Nintendo. Not a surprising one, but still not a good one...
TheOverlord#2 @ Oct 7th 2008 8:33AM
Well, at least people who want a DSi in the US/EU will be able to play until May/April.
Austen @ Oct 6th 2008 9:22PM
Too bad for DSi people.
Bigfoot @ Oct 6th 2008 9:45PM
Too bad most people already own a DS anyway.
Tiptup300 @ Oct 6th 2008 9:44PM
The first one was horrible and I can't imagine this will be any better.
Seriously, the game was literally painful to play.
Red Leader @ Oct 6th 2008 10:05PM
Listen to this man, people! He speaks with the voice of reason!
&rew @ Oct 6th 2008 10:12PM
But sticking it to the man is what rock is all about, since when was listening to him part of it?
IGLAW @ Oct 7th 2008 1:39AM
I agree. I really wanted to like that game. It is only Aerosmith that keeps me from considering it the absolute lowpoint of the series, even behind Midori.
Sheppy (of the Fidlious Clan of Wong) @ Oct 7th 2008 8:24AM
I paid $30 for my copy and I agree. This game is painful to play. Not that it's bad (it sure isn't good), but the hardware cramps my hand something fierce.
Mr ESC,Lives Again. @ Oct 7th 2008 11:33AM
GH is already painful to play and the portable version is just plain uncomfortable, I spend 10 minutes trying to get in a position in which I wouldn't get a cramp.
To be honest it wasn’t a bad game and I liked most of the songs unlike GH2.Now that the last game was released a few months ago so WTF with that?
Mr Khan @ Oct 6th 2008 9:44PM
"It was born a doomed product. Knowing it did not have long for this world, it tried to rock as hard as it could. This is the brave story of that terminal product who had a dream to bring rock to as many people as possible."
VaultICEE @ Oct 6th 2008 9:44PM
Two things (incoming wall of text):
1)"...a collection of master tracks pulled from the last 40 years, including Fall Out Boy, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Queen..."
Queen master-track? I call fake. If they did deal with Queen for the real master tracks, why wouldn't Activision be smart and release it for World Tour as well as the DS version? I'm sure a lot more buzz would have been made about the game if they decided to do it.
2) "Fuelled by the uncomfortable stares of those sitting close by, Activision has heard your cries for more on-the-go rocking..."
I thought the majority of the internet didn't like it. Unless they mean "cries from their own office building for more money".
VaultICEE @ Oct 6th 2008 9:46PM
Wait. I'm an idiot and worded the second one wrong.
I really need to double check my comments, I get it...
&rew @ Oct 6th 2008 9:49PM
Here is a simple solution for the Guitar Hero/DSi problem:
Keep your old DS, don't throw in a river or burn it, it may seem crazy at first (but playing this on a bus is so much weirder), and since when has one game been the deciding factor for a new systemn?
DarkPassion @ Oct 6th 2008 9:51PM
Wait, wait, wait! Joystiq please tell me where did you guys hear that Queen (and in master form no doubt) was in any recent GH game? Where have I been? I'm looking at a list of confirmed tracks for this game now and don't see any Queen. Trust me if their gonna start putting Queen in music games I'm about to stampede Harmonix with request.
Hafk @ Oct 6th 2008 10:20PM
Well, they did Queen back in GH1. Killer Queen was a terrible cover, though
Although, Queen is more logical for full-band games. The most famous Queen songs are amazing sing-alongs. Besides, who DOESN'T burst out into singing when they hear Bohemian Rhapsody?
CJLopez @ Oct 7th 2008 12:02AM
Guilty of charge
"Mamaaaaaaa, just kill me thereeeee....."

Is this the real life?...
Cian @ Oct 7th 2008 3:19PM
Is this just fantasy?
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ Oct 6th 2008 10:02PM
The first game's setlist was meh. The second one isn't inspiring me much confidence.
Banana Kid @ Oct 6th 2008 10:08PM
Queen? Queen? Queen?
As if the Bon Jovi pick wasn't enough to win me over, they have to go and get Queen? TELL ME MORE.
Rhadamanthus @ Oct 8th 2008 7:35PM
I'm with you!
POOLSCLOSED @ Oct 25th 2008 4:49PM
"First announced during E3, the encore performance will include a collection of master tracks pulled from the last 40 years"
...As opposed to the previous game? Why would they call it Decades anyway?
Farseer (GDI) @ Oct 6th 2008 11:22PM
Can someone please make Activision stop?!? Anyone?!? Please?!?
How much beating can a franchise take before it is nothing but a lifeless, bloody corpse?
Monkeydog @ Oct 7th 2008 12:17AM
It's a rhythm game.
It's not a Final Fantasy or a Halo type game, the only real limit this franchise has is when they literally run out of music with guitars in them. Look at DDR or SingStar or Taiko Drum. Rhythm games have no limit, and one of the reasons for it is because not every version will have a set list pleasing to everyone, so releasing more versions gives players more songs to play, and helps please a wider selection of players.
I dislike all this slander about the GH series for very little reason other than it's the cool thing to do, it's just dumb.
Farseer (GDI) @ Oct 7th 2008 1:06AM
I beg to differ. Activision reached the limit the moment they eyed the handheld market.
Sheppy (of the Fidlious Clan of Wong) @ Oct 7th 2008 8:34AM
Actually, monkeydo, you CAN overdo a rhythm franchise.
Take DDR, one of your examples. Remember when it was popular? Me too! OMG, that was WAY back in the day. But something happened. As in Konami started dropping more than one a year. Now DDR, as a franchise, has become a case of "don't let this happen to you." That was with going one mix over a single one a year.
Now look at Guitar Hero... in this year alone, there will be four different Guitar Hero games. The TWO on DS, Aerosmith, and World Tour. Activision has stated that want to double that number next year. In other words, rather than fostering a market for the DLC that could sustain the title for a full year, they are crowding the market with Guitar Hero releases, diluting the brand, and ultimately killing off the genre they depend upon right now. It's activisions way, really. Or have we all forgotten Tony Hawk?
Now, given all the rhythm games you mentioned are BARELY on the map anymore (aside from Singstar but seriously, Karaoke never dies), what makes you think GH as a franchise isn't pushing it? Or to put it another way, in six months, GH on DS will have the same number of titles in THAT line as DJ Max Portable on PSP over the two years it took for THEM to reach that number.
Young_Nastyman @ Oct 7th 2008 9:39AM
Sheppy = win
Farseer (GDI) @ Oct 7th 2008 9:42AM
whew... I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one that thought the Activision cool-aid tasted a lot like piss lately.
Let's hope they sweeten it up a bit with GH:WT. It'll be tough, though - Harmonix has set the bar pretty high IMO.
Monkeydog @ Oct 7th 2008 4:47PM
It isn't because there were too many versions of DDR, that's not it's problem, it's just that eventually a lot of people just got bored of the game. I know some of my friends love DDR, won't play it though, and will only play Stepmania. Why? Because of the wide selection compared to DDR. The lasting effect of a rhythm game's franchise is how many songs a game can put out and how fast they can. Look at how well Rock Band did compared to Guitar Hero III. It's mainly do to the fact people got bored of GHIII's set list in a few weeks, yet Rock Band just kept getting more and more songs for us all to play.
Having different versions of a rhythm game does not hurt it at all, it gives consumers choice, which probably isn't exactly Activision's motive,(MONEY MONEY MONEY) but in the end it helps me not get bored of the franchise so easily.
(Another reason why Guitar Hero's constant releases are better than if DDR were to do it. Popular mainstream songs. Practically nobody cared what songs were in DDR, because they never heard of them, the selling point of Guitar Hero to some people tend to be what songs are in the game due to their popularity. If you have more and more versions, you please more and more people.)
OTAM @ Oct 6th 2008 11:49PM
Please.
Just.
Stop.
Kyouryuu @ Oct 7th 2008 3:07AM
I just wish they'd re-engineer the peripheral. When a friend of mine bought GH: On Tour and I tried it out, it was awful. You'd have Cryptkeeper hands before long.
Sinister Rouge @ Oct 7th 2008 6:57AM
It's just like playing a real guitar!
Patrick @ Oct 7th 2008 8:43AM
Anyone know if this will be available without the plug-in controller and pick (for those that already have the first one)?
Cian @ Oct 7th 2008 3:21PM
Yes. It will be available. And the original will be available separately for those who buy Decades with the grip.
