What's better than playing golf with your favorite Nintendo characters in the comfort of your own imagination? Wielding a sword and playing a character named "Bowie," of course!
- Mario Golf (Nintendo 64, 1-4 players, 1,000 Wii Points): Arguably the best in the Mario Golf series and certainly one of the cheapest. It just makes us wonder why Nintendo hasn't slapped together its cast of characters into a Wii golf game yet.
- Shining Force II (Sega Genesis, 1 player, 800 Wii Points): You've got a sword in a fantasy medieval setting that rewards you for swinging said blade at others. Also, did we mention your main character is named Bowie?
To jog your memory, we've embedded videos of each title after the break.

Shining Force 2 was an excellent game. This is a good addition to the VC.

I don't think i ever played the sequel, but i remember Shining Force 1 very fondly and rented and played through it like 3 seperate occassions when I was a kid. Then, about 6 years ago, I got it off some video store that was closing, and it still held up really well. I would def get the sequel off ebay since I no longer have a Wii

GJ making one of the best console RPGs ever sound like generic crap.

That's toadstool tour, not the original.

Another N64 game with features missing and unable to use.

I never played the N64 Mario Golf, but the GBA one was an excellent golf RPG.

Did anyone else find unlocking new characters in Mario Golf 64 ridiculously hard?
Red Leader @ Oct 6th 2008 3:28PM
On an unrelated note, can someone explain to me why my icon/avatar never changes, despite every attempt I make to get rid of the mario picture with something new?
Roddie @ Oct 6th 2008 3:30PM
Try using FireFox to upload your picture. I was having the same problem with Opera (and didn't work in IE either).
Red Leader @ Oct 6th 2008 3:51PM
Thanks, I think that did it.

The original N64 Mario Golf is by far my favorite. Very excited to buy it on Wii, since I managed never to buy it for the N64 somehow (or maybe I did and then lost it...)

Yes, I'd love to see a Wii Mario Golf game! I've really enjoyed the previous Mario Golf games and I absolutely adore SuperSwingGolf (even though the controls aren't perfect... and the graphics aren't perfect... and it could use more magic and RPG elements, but damn, it's fun!)

I dont know what it was about Mario Golf on N64, but it seemed way too fun for what it was. I had a lot of fun with it. I will probably buy this as I'd love to play it again.

Yaaaaaay shining force II!
DukeFett @ Oct 6th 2008 5:03PM
You can name the main character whatever you want IIRC, it's an awesome game.
JohnHeist @ Oct 6th 2008 6:57PM
SFII is freaking incredible!!
I always named the turtle "Burr", because that's the first thing he says.
He stayed in my party too, his promoted form is awesome

Will Nintendo ever bring SNES Mario Kart to Virtual Console? :(
scratch @ Oct 6th 2008 8:22PM
both of the Shining Force games were fantastic. Joystiq you should be ashamed for making this game seem lame. as someone mentioned, you can indeed change the names to whatever you want. P-phunk was always my moniker of choice back then.
i highly recommend any fans of RPGs with Wiis pick Shining Force II up now!
