Sony has already confirmed the PSP Wi-Fi store is coming this Fall for Japan. The official box art for a November 30 US PSP Brite (a.k.a. PSP-3000) bundle also shows store functionality (via Amazon), indicating that the fall launch will be global and just in time to keep yourself distracted during Thanksgiving dinner. It was previously rumored that the store would be coming with firmware 5.00.
In other PSP Brite news, the gang at Eurogamer spent the weekend with the upgraded handheld as well as firmware 4.20, featuring a Color Space option that, "If you set to [Wide], the system's display will appear more vivid."

The cover of anything (gadget boxes, DVDs/BDs, games, food, cleaning supplies, etc.) is a form of advertisement. The whole point of a box cover is to make the product appealing to a potential customer. The box also has to represent some key selling points with the product.
If you think box art is just meant to look cool than you're either totally missing the point or the marketing companies have already brainwashed you.

"Is packaging a form of advertising? Packaging just has to be pretty, and this is not pretty."
Packing IS a form of advertising...
and no, packaging doesn't always have to be "pretty", and as shown by the one above, some of them go for the "Informative" route. But that's not to say that the design of the box is awful, the colors are somewhat vibrant, they show the brand throught the box, and they are also putting a lot of focus on showing the PS Store (this is most likely due to the latest ads pushed by Apple showing the App Store)
Seriously, not everything has to be sprinkled with glitter...

Can you give me example of another piece of gaming hardware with smiling people on the box? Much less one where a smiling model is a size that competes with the photo size of the ACTUAL product on the packaging?
If you can then I stand corrected and this is the most awesome box art ever and the people that desinged it are marketing geniuses.

I have seen some before, but I don't remember them right now, still, what's wrong with people smiling? the purpose of that is to show that the product is fun/entertaining, and its not like its uber exagerated, its just a subtle smile.
"Much less one where a smiling model is a size that competes with the photo size of the ACTUAL product on the packaging?"
he doesn't compete with the actual product, the product still quite visible, not only that, making the size of the picture of the model close yet not as big as the PSP's shows that they are putting a lot of priority on the "fun" part of it.
Seriously, what is the true purpose of your dislike towards the box art? if you just simply don't like it just say so, you don't have to make up bullshit.

That reminds I should repair my PSP lite.
After that I might sell it and buy a new PSP Brite.

Well since there are pretty much no hardware differences between the PSP Slim and the Brite, I seriously doubt any 802.11g support

This is the most boring PSP design I've seen in years. I even liked that Madden one better than this. What is the advantage of this over, say, the GoW version, which comes with a game and a movie for the same price? Is it *that* much brighter? Like, would I be able to actually see it in the sunlight now?

Sony is touting that the PSP Brite will have a huge glare reduction when used in sunlight. It's disappointing that no one has gotten the chance to show off how much of an improvement there is, but TGS is coming up soon and I'm pretty sure Sony will have them for display.
