LucasArts, BioWare unveiling new game Oct. 21
Click to Embiggen
On October 21, at around 2PM Pacific, BioWare and LucasArts will finally reveal whatever the heck they've been working on, as evidenced by Massively's invitation to the event. More than a few signs point the way to the project being an MMO based on Knights of the Old Republic. Massively speculates that the title of the game could be Star Wars: The Old Republic. We'll definitely be at the event and you can check out the other side of the invitation after the break (location details covered to prevent LucasArts and BioWare from force choking us).

I really want this game to be good but I'm just too skeptical that it will be. This is odd considering I've seen absolutely nothing about it.
Thomas @ Oct 7th 2008 6:04PM
Please don't be an mmo please!
Delgado @ Oct 7th 2008 6:12PM
They invited Massively... c'mon now, use your head.
Absolute Filth @ Oct 7th 2008 6:04PM
Hopefully no one will be there at the release of the game because they will be playing Fable 2!
Ihavepants @ Oct 7th 2008 8:29PM
What?
john paul @ Oct 7th 2008 9:14PM
Same release date...
Ihavepants @ Oct 7th 2008 9:24PM
He said "at the release of the game", which would mean this game, the one that the article is about... and that doesn't make sense. Besides that, he's saying that he hopes noone shows up for the announcement. Why?
WorMzy @ Oct 7th 2008 6:05PM
Urgh, please let it not be more milking of the Star Wars cash-cow. =|
AoE @ Oct 7th 2008 6:28PM
what other cow does LucasArts have to milk?
Xoviet chiK @ Oct 7th 2008 6:38PM
Big Sky Trooper?
(Please oh Please let it be a BST MMO!!!!!)
Brian Fantana @ Oct 7th 2008 9:09PM
Howard the Duck.
If George Lucas has no part in making this game, it should be good.
Ihavepants @ Oct 7th 2008 9:33PM
Fuck yeh Howard The Duck, that was one of my favourite movies growing up and then I found out the world hated it when I was older. I still think its awesome.
Blank-Mage @ Oct 7th 2008 11:16PM
Well, an Indiana Jones MMO wouldn't work as well. What with the aliens. God, I feel like equipping my car with a flux capacitor and killing Lucas BEFORE he made that movie.
(I'll forgive SW Episodes 1-3, but only because of Ewan McGregor, Samuel Jackson, and Christopher Lee.)
Bortak @ Oct 7th 2008 6:05PM
I wish that they'd just announce a new KOTOR. I really don't care for an MMORPG that requires dedication of life to enjoy..
OMGOMG @ Oct 7th 2008 6:10PM
It's too bad there isn't already an MMO for Star Wars fans. Oh wait...
Kevin949 @ Oct 7th 2008 6:19PM
Isn't that basically all games? Though not to such a scale as MMO's.
Trulz @ Oct 7th 2008 6:33PM
In all fairness, SWG is god awful. I really can't blame them for trying to open another game.
Blank-Mage @ Oct 7th 2008 11:20PM
SWG was okay when Jedi was something you EARN. I mean, who looks at the class selection and decides "I like commandos WAY better than Jedi!" I ended up playing it just for the space combat, then got FFXI anyway.
343 Guilty Fart @ Oct 7th 2008 6:10PM
That artwork looks Diabloesque.
Blank-Mage @ Oct 7th 2008 11:23PM
Ironically, Diablo III doesn't.
Ihavepants @ Oct 8th 2008 12:37AM
Zing!
Foetoid @ Oct 7th 2008 6:11PM
Imagine the internets if this was announced as a Wii game! The internets would be teh dead! (And i would be stoked)
mirage @ Oct 7th 2008 6:38PM
And then you would remember how poor of an experience online gaming is on the Wii and you would shed a tear of sorrow. : (
Foetoid @ Oct 7th 2008 7:05PM
Yeah, it's about time someone made a decent online game to bring the Wii up to 360/Ps3 standards. I've got quite a few online games, but hardly anyone plays online.
tmacairjordan87 @ Oct 7th 2008 7:13PM
Uhh...games don't make an online experience better, the overall infrastructure has to already be in place and it's not in the wii. Not even close.
Again if you wanted to play these types of games you should have bought a real system.
Mr Khan @ Oct 7th 2008 10:13PM
ahh, but any and all Wii developers are free to abandon Nintendo's shitty system so long as they have the funds to go it alone
Hence EA's online Wii games using EA Gamer Nation in its code-free glory.
DaStuph @ Oct 7th 2008 6:12PM
I think I just pee'd a little...
Big Ed @ Oct 7th 2008 6:14PM
Finally. An Indiana Jones RPG!
SytheMaster @ Oct 7th 2008 6:16PM
I would love it if it turned out to me mass effect 2...
tmacairjordan87 @ Oct 7th 2008 7:15PM
I would too but it's not because Bioware doesn't need Lucasarts for the Mass Effect franchise. That's why everyone thinks it's Kotor, and hopefully not an MMO
MKA @ Oct 7th 2008 6:16PM
Crossing fingers....
Come on Monkey Island MMO.
Gnoll @ Oct 8th 2008 8:00AM
MI5 maybe?
It's not going to be, but that would be the best twist ever: everyone is so sure it's this MMO, and suddenly it's MI5.
AwesomeTown @ Oct 8th 2008 8:03AM
You are correct, I swear I can see LeChuck's beard under that robe.
finnith @ Oct 7th 2008 6:17PM
I have this hope that the game will be good, but there's a little voice telling me that an MMO will ruin the universe.
I agree with the voice.
Farseer (GDI) @ Oct 7th 2008 6:18PM
KOTOR was one of the best games I played last generation. I enjoyed the second iteration to an extent, but Bioware did it right.
I will be highly, highly disappointed when they announce the new KOTOR as an MMORPG. I have a family - I have a life. I can barely sneak in time to play what little I do. I can't take on a game that is akin to a second job.
Boo Bioware... boo.
Ihavepants @ Oct 7th 2008 8:33PM
While I think its very likely to be an MMO set in the Old Republic, I don't think this ruins the chance of any more true KOTOR sequels/prequels/whatever. Also I'm really hoping that Bioware keeps to its story telling goodness even if it is an MMO, I don't see why they couldn't really.
kinshadow @ Oct 7th 2008 6:24PM
I'm going to play a blue-skinned lesbian...
Mr ESC,Lives Again. @ Oct 7th 2008 10:01PM
In a MMO? I wouldn't.
Blank-Mage @ Oct 7th 2008 11:22PM
Somehow, I don't feel you'd be alone in your choice...
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ Oct 8th 2008 2:13AM
nightelf?
Dirty @ Oct 7th 2008 6:26PM
I suppose if I were to ever get into an MMO, Im sure a starwars one developed by bioware would be the one I would get into.
Youthinized @ Oct 7th 2008 6:28PM
Those were my thoughts as well.
Ihavepants @ Oct 7th 2008 8:46PM
I hear you.
AwesomeTown @ Oct 8th 2008 8:07AM
I was thinking the same thing. But with an MMO, comes a monthly subscription fee. And a subscription fee requires a commitment to that game. And with the rate of quality game releases these days, I don't think I can make that commitment. It's a big fishbowl, and sometimes you just want to swim with another fish for a while.
Phillip @ Oct 8th 2008 11:16AM
@AwesomeTown:
You can cancel anytime. Can you seriously not handle a one-month/$15 commitment? You have to be at least that committed to work a job or get married! :-)
Taco_Hell @ Oct 7th 2008 6:35PM
I honestly don't care what they announce, as a Bioware whore I must get it and ravage it for everything that it is worth. I even bought the Sonic game and enjoy it, that's how much of a Bioware whore I am!
nofriendo @ Oct 7th 2008 6:37PM
yeah... if the wait is over for a "good" lucas arts videogame.
thats right... name one.
Taco_Hell @ Oct 7th 2008 6:40PM
Well, since Bioware is the developer and Lucas Arts is just the publishers, I don't think there's much to fear. Plus, Lucas Arts have only been sucking lately as the Jedi Knights games, the X-wing games, etc were awesome.
Yuccadude @ Oct 7th 2008 7:21PM
Does Republic Commando count? Because that was Lucasarts, and it was freaking awesome. One of the best Star Wars titles I've played, KotOR included, and the best squad-based game I've played.
theturtle363 @ Oct 7th 2008 9:17PM
KOTOR, Republic Commando, Battlefront 1 and 2, KOTOR 2, Star Wars Bounty Hunter, Empire at War, Revenge of the Sith, Jedi Knight series, Dark Forces
