We love the Ex Box Boys' new Braid tune
Yeah, we've heard all the jokes. "Braidstiq," you say with that little sneer, belittling us for our blind devotion to all things with even a remote relation to Jonathan Blow's exquisite little game. And ... well, this isn't going to change your opinion of us in the slightest: We're really enjoying the Ex Box Boys' new Braid-based tune, "Counting You Up," which you can hear at their site right here.
There's no downloading yet, which is a bummer: We can't wait to hear the secret messages when you play it backwards.

That photo disturbs me.

This is all so unbelievable nerdy that... I kinda like it. Like how something is so Bad that it goes all the way down the bad scale till it comes out good, these guys just did that to the nerd scale.
SuperGayParade @ Oct 7th 2008 10:58AM
They have a teen, two twenty year olds, and a late 30 year old. Their favorite games are CoD4, Halo 3, and Rock Band. They're all white and their age groups can identify with their appearances. Are you sure Microsoft isn't involved?
SuperGayParade @ Oct 7th 2008 10:52AM
Tool, tool, tool, tool.
Slyght @ Oct 7th 2008 11:08AM
The song is actually...catchy?! Wait, did I just say that?
It looks like they're dropping the Xbox angle because Microsoft wouldn't let them, but they're still kinda creepy.

When I read "Braid-based" I expected beautiful, mellow, possibly celtic/irish/idontknow strings.
Instead, banal middle-of-the-road rock + emoesque vocals.
My ears are now sad.

If you want to have a local copy to play it backwards...
audacity...

Its not geeky at all its mass marketing to my nerdcore scene (grrr...), the music is HYPER produced, the website is HYPER flashy, the photo shoots are DIY inspired but far too clean, the writing on the web site is way too "safe" its total marketing propaganda.
theberlindoctor @ Oct 7th 2008 11:54AM
People never got this excited about VHS players. We are a disturbed culture, yet one I still enjoy.
Shagittarius @ Oct 7th 2008 12:05PM
I can see nerd people.
Ben @ Oct 7th 2008 12:16PM
Dang, these guys aren't half bad. Nothing like videogame inspired music...kudos fellas and keep it up!
Drizzt519 @ Oct 7th 2008 1:14PM
That song blows. Im sad for having heard it. I like futuristic sex robotz better, thats not sayin' much. At least that makes me laugh.
dvnt @ Oct 7th 2008 2:38PM
I thought these guys called it quits a year ago. And what's with the old man front? Creepy.
klitorisaurus @ Oct 7th 2008 3:10PM
Boy George has manlier face paint.
sv2 @ Oct 7th 2008 4:25PM
The song should've been made by Soulja Boy.
avcables @ Oct 7th 2008 5:35PM
Link is broken. :(
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ Oct 8th 2008 2:41AM
It's almost like God of War facepaint but in green.
timsol @ Oct 14th 2008 7:48PM
I am a record producer for two top ten billboard acts and if they dropped the face paint I think they would smash.
That song is catchy as hell. Not sure about the xbox angle but my 18 year old son plays that damn song for hours on end. Of course there is a smell emanating from his room for something green...so.
xboxmaniadude @ Oct 14th 2008 7:51PM
I love it, where do you get it!!! Also, I notice that the song does not play anymore on the site, so someone took it down.
I also like their master chief song, which I think is better but this one is very good.

Like the purple tele.

You spoke and they listened! They are playing live at Hayley's in Everett on January 9, 2009 (just as P-Box predicted!)WITHOUT THE FACE PAINT. Their MySpace has all the info. You can get advance tickets by calling (425) 339-2424, it's a limited venue of 300 people. There are rumors of a live webstream, too.
