Epic calls EA buyout rumor "rubbish"
10
In a one word response to an unsubstantiated rumor that Electronic Arts is planning to buy Epic Games, Epic's VP Mark Rein told Big Download that the rumor is "rubbish." The rumor began swirling (down the drain, so it would seem) last week, when GameGuru.in reported that word from the "rumor mill" was that EA was planning the buyout in order to acquire the Unreal Engine. Specifically, it would be a chance for the company to get its hands on next Unreal Engine and the Gears of War franchise. According to Rein, it just ain't so.

EA are communist bastards that ruin good franchises by rushing the developers into creating crappy games.

First Rockstart (Take Two) and then Epic. Back off EA, you're dead and you don't even know it yet...

Obviously not true since MS owns the GOW franchise. If EA bought Epic, they could never make GOW multiplatform without MS's permission so that would be a stoopid reason. GOW is like Halo, bungie developed it but MS owns the IP on it.

Glad to hear it. A world where EA controlled the Unreal Engine would be awful. I could absolutely see them hoarding the technology for themselves and making everyone else go without. Competition is a good thing EA. If you get to the top of the gaming industry via good games, congrats, but getting there by buying out your competition....
