Colour me excited :D They've worked pretty damn hard on this, I hope it results in smiles all round.

The 'certain destructable places' thing was kind of expected, even games like Motostorm have a limited amount of damage, it looks great at first, but when you realise the same wheel and bonnet comes off no matter how you crash, it quickly gets boring.

I didn't expect the game to have fully destructable environments, heck, I didn't get that in COD or Gears and if I will, it will be a wait.

I have to agree with Vcize though, the 'floaty' quote is the only thing concerning me.

I would be prettu upset if I opened a 360 as a present on Xmas day, knowing I would be missing this....

How could you be upset with receiving a video game system for free, at all?

I guess thats a bizarre perspective to me since I havent relied on Christmas presents to get my gaming needs since I was like 14.

Perhaps when you are spending your own money you will figure out that 1) beggars cant be choosers and 2) a system with more great games > system with a few great games

Well, this game is going to suck because Killzone 1 scored just 70 on Metacritic
Just like Halo sucked because Oni, Bungie's previous game, scored only 70 as well

Funny thing is, after all the "generic shooter" claims, Resistance 2 and LZ2 are probably offering the most novelty among new shooters in terms of online modes, etc.

And even more funny is that Sony have probably spent one-tenth as much as MS on acquiring studios or exclusives but now have more than double the studio stength

"...it took some time to get comfortable with the weapon sensitivity. Often the game either felt too floaty or sluggish and we can only pinpoint the issue as lying with the gameplay style. Guns move realistically and Killzone 2 takes this idea and pushes it with added blur effects and an innovative first-person cover system. We're not saying the gunplay doesn't work, but players should recognize the game will immediately feel different when they first get to play it."

Translation: Aiming sucks. And the dualshock isn't going to help.

I don't play videogames that much anymore because they're all the same (look and play) IMO. But I still read up on them and keep up to date with everything. I guess I'm just kind of waiting for that NEW genre or game to come along an change everything. But it hasn't happen yet.

Perhaps while you're doing all that reading, while the rest of us waste our time playing the same videogame cavemen played 3000 years ago, you should take the time to open up a dictionary and read what the word "reply" means.

Then, take your newfound knowledge of this tricky little word, and apply it to how you think it might work if it were a button on a website's comment system where people talk back and forth with each other.

Yeah, I agree that cover systems should be implemented in more games. I'd much rather press a button than take the time to learn the skill of properly positioning myself behind cover. And while devs are at it, why don't they make it so you lock on to your targets with the press of a button. Or better yet, the game could just aim your character for you. Oh! And it should also shoot whenever you need to shoot, jump when you need to jump, move when you need to move, and do all the other annoyances that come with a game actually having gameplay. I would buy a game like that up in seconds.

It's funny you mentioned that because I think that it takes cover to a place where it should go. First-person shooters that switch to a third-person perspective behind cover has always bothered me.

Rainbow Six 3 is one of my favorite games of all time and Vegas disappointed me by making cover easier to spot enemies. In respect to Killzone 2, you are stuck behind that cover but are responsible for your positioning and it's actually much tougher than it may seem.

If your complaint is that we're having our games handed to us on a silver platter then you're in for a surprise when you play Killzone 2.

I will say this in KZ2's defense: not switching to third person definitely beats previous games like Vegas and it will most likely leave some challenge in the game. I'm just so sick of cover systems in general that I don't even want to hear about them.
PS I also am a bit edgy because I have just come off reading Fahrenheit 451 (good book) and I'm worried that what happened in that book is going to happen in the videogame world.
PPS Go read the book if you don't understand where I'm coming from.

One of the reasons I'm excited for KZ2 is because of the cover system.

I'm not trying to come be an ass DBuck_Eye, but you should check out MoH: Airborne to see a good implementation of cover system locked in an first person perspective. During multi player sessions, you actually need to be more aware of your position/environment and how often you take cover, as doing so severely limits the information you have at hand.

Hahaha, very funny or not. I would use the reply button caveboy, that's if it actually worked for me. It's not my fault that Joystiq's comment system is garbage.

The reply system is works as long as you don't spaz out. Maybe you should take some hydrocodone and a hot bath, those always calm me down.

Very hard to define killer app, i think.

Occasionally, you get a game that defines all of a console's features (like, say, Sonic the Hedgehog to the Genesis) that can be a definitive killer app

This is definitely a Tech Killer App, being to the PS3 what RE4 was to GC or what NiGHTS was to the Saturn, however

I think you can only really define a game as a killer app in retrospect.

I look back at games that changed the direction or sales of a console. Games like Super Mario 3, Halo, Sonic.

This generation is hard to pin it on, but it will be more clear when its over.

Eh, i think we could tag Wii Sports and Gears. Possibly Super Mario Galaxy just because it set the bar for high-quality Wii development, and maybe Dead Rising because it proved next gen was more about teh shiny (or the "automatic drip" i remember advertising realistic sweat in a basketball game as a reason to plunk down $400 for a launch 360, lol)

Killzone definitely has potential to be a killer app but we'll see if that actually pans out.

Honestly though, I wouldn't be surprised if the PS3 never gets a killer app. The titles are great but they seem to niche to draw in huge amounts of people.

Here's hoping they get one!

ps. Good call on Dead Rising. That game, along with Oblivion were the reasons I bought the 360 at launch.

What I really meant was if Killzone 2 turns out to be as good as everyone's expecting, I'll definitely consider getting a PS3.

The 360 really won me over with Gears, so we'll see if Sony can come up with something even more appealing.

"Guerilla made many a comment about how the first Killzone was their first game and they weren't trying to make a Halo killer, it was just the result of fanboyism."

Bullshit. Blame sony's marketing team and the magazines, not the fanboys. I brought it after reading an extensive review in EGM "claiming" it to be the HALO killer. I beleive it even had the cover!

Graphics wise for a ps2 game was very good imo, but thats it. It didn't last 2 weeks in my apt. And you can believe sony is up to it's old tricks (falsified graphics) to gas ya'll up as another HALO killer that will never be.

Look, just you hope the game is decent... HALO/GEARS/COD4 killer it's NOT.
