Microsoft confirms Tekken 6 for 360, fall 2009
A rumor we first reported on in Jan. 2007 has finally become reality. Microsoft confirmed during its pre-Tokyo Game Show 2008 press conference that Namco Bandai's Tekken franchise will appear on Xbox 360. Tekken 6 will, according to Microsoft, appear on the console in "fall 2009." The sixth installment in the series – which has been a PlayStation mainstay since the original launched in 1995 – was expected to continue console exclusivity on PS3. It will, instead, ship for both consoles simultaneously.

Great news for everyone! :)
Chin-Poh @ Oct 9th 2008 12:56AM
Nope, just 360 owners. If you only have a 360, your happy at getting this game, your not if your only a PS3 owner. Depends on what situation your in.
Now if PS3 and 360 owners could play against each other online, THEN everyone would be happy!
Except for the Wii owners but who cares about them? : D
Gun Barrier @ Oct 9th 2008 1:02AM
Well, i totally forgot that tekken 6 existed, so its a reminder that the game is being made too. Great news to everyone that forgot about it. To ps3 owners, it should do nothing, unless ur a fanboy; in which case, its horrible news. But, all the same, Tekken will be making 3x as much money now. Great news for ms too, btw.
Chin-Poh @ Oct 9th 2008 1:06AM
I do agree Tekken 6 will a lot more exposure and sales on the 360 as well as the PS3. But I also feel like Tales of Vesperia will do the same on the PS3 IMO.
No tradsies? : (

"If you only have a 360, your happy at getting this game, your not if your only a PS3 owner"~ Chin-Poh
I don't understand this "logic". Pretend for a moment the game was only coming out for PS3. Would you, as a PS3 owner, be happy to get the latest installment of one of your favorite game franchises? Of course you would! Why then would you suddenly become dismayed upon learning said game is also coming out for a system you don't even own? It doesn't take anything away from you.
Ranus Studios @ Oct 8th 2008 11:42PM
Normally it pleases me when something gets multiplatformed to the 360- I generally get that version instead of the PS3 version- but honestly that d-pad is just too awful.
anonim1979 @ Oct 9th 2008 12:19AM
Time to buy Arcade Stick.
If VF5 and SC4 are any indication X360 version will be superior once again.
Gun Barrier @ Oct 9th 2008 12:20AM
Use the Stick :)
Chin-Poh @ Oct 9th 2008 12:57AM
Am I the only one who still prefers a D-Pad over an arcade stick? Especially the Playstation's D-Pad? I love it for fighting games!
Vidikron @ Oct 9th 2008 1:13AM
You're not the only one. I'm prefer d-pads myself. Don't really care for Tekken though. I still prefer games like SF, GG and KoF.

Titanium_Orchid @ Oct 8th 2008 11:45PM
*phew.
When I read the headline, I almost had an aneurysm thinking that Microsoft secured this as an exclusive.
xFenixKnightx @ Oct 8th 2008 11:50PM
Double w00t!
...
w00t w00t!! :D
Since I'll be having my fighting stick from SFIV everything should be oooooooook.
Chin-Poh @ Oct 9th 2008 12:07AM
Even though the Tekken series was a Playstation mainstay, many PS2 owners and Tekken players have migrated to the 360 instead of the PS3.
Still, quite shocking news!

the only reason i got a ps3 was for tekken 6....
wow....
(glad i got a ps3 but.. i mean.. cmon...)
Andrew @ Oct 9th 2008 12:56AM
hi
green11420 @ Oct 9th 2008 12:31AM
What the f***
My favorite game franchise should NEVER be played on a Microsoft console! I own both a 360 and a PS3 but Tekken was made for Playstation and it should have been an exclusive franchise. I am still getting this on PS3 but I must say those 360 owners won't get the best experience on the 360 controller I would imagine.
The most important thing to me is NO EXCLUSIVE DLC. If exclusive DLC is announced on the 360, I might kill myself. If exclusive DLC is announced on PS3, that would be great as a reassurance to their commitment to the PS brand, but I would hate for that to happen for the 360 owners sake.
Andrew @ Oct 9th 2008 12:56AM
dude, i totally agree. I wouldn't be so pissed if tekken tag tournament was on Dreamcast but after all this time, namco hands over tekken just like that. Just because it's MS. wtf. I'm thinking about Quitting tekken altogether. Damn, this sucks.
seifer @ Oct 9th 2008 12:35AM
Fanboy much? Don't worry about them controllers now... that's what Hori sticks are for.
green11420 @ Oct 9th 2008 12:38AM
Tekken fanboy? Yes of course. I'm not worried about the controllers as much as I am potential exclusive dlc. That would suck (No matter which way it goes). I'm sure most would agree.
Eddie @ Oct 9th 2008 12:44AM
dude i feel your pane. i was mad when dmc4, came to 360 and now tekken? I damn near had a stroke when they announced that ff13 would be on 360 and ps3. I like microsoft and all but some games should not go to 360. Sony really fucked up..........
seifer @ Oct 9th 2008 12:44AM
Share the love, I say. Ain't no problem with letting more people play. And if DLC is that big of a factor for you... well, you got both systems.
j.howlett @ Oct 9th 2008 12:49AM
eddie i said something earlier that fits this. namco bandai makes tekken 6 multi platform and the response is sony fucked up?
green11420 @ Oct 9th 2008 12:55AM
I agree with Eddie. Tekken means more to me though so I guess that's why it's such a big deal for me (it's one of the earliest games I remember playing in my youth).
And seifer, you are right, it's great that more people will get to enjoy it. I do have both consoles, but I wanted to get Fallout 3 for PS3 but had to change my preorder to the 360 version after hearing about the dlc situation. That I don't mind but I would really prefer to have all my Tekken games on one console.
Anyway I guess I should stop ranting, there are more important issues in the world. haha.
Sunny @ Oct 9th 2008 2:20AM
Virtua fighter, Devil May Cry, Final Fantasy and now TEKKEN? IS NOTHING SACRED? OMG I WANT TO DIE!
Vcize @ Oct 9th 2008 10:47AM
"I'm not worried about the controllers as much as I am potential exclusive dlc. That would suck (No matter which way it goes)."
LOL, dude, you realize we can still read what you actually said in your first post, right?
You specifically and explicitly said that if the 360 got exclusive DLC you would kill yourself, but if the PS3 got exclusive DLC that would be great. Now you're trying to claim that you said it would be bad either way? We can scroll up and read your post man, no need to pretend it never happened...
green11420 @ Oct 9th 2008 11:06AM
Vcize, maybe you need to read it yourself.
This is exactly what I said,
"If exclusive DLC is announced on PS3, that would be great as a reassurance to their commitment to the PS brand, BUT I WOULD HATE FOR THAT TO HAPPEN FOR THE 360 OWNERS SAKE."
I capitalized one part for easy reading.
yyr @ Oct 10th 2008 12:31AM
"Tekken was made for PlayStation"
No, Tekken was made for arcades. Home versions have been made for PS systems, so far.
I love the fact that this is coming to 360...already have an arcade stick, so I'm all set. It does disappoint me just a bit though, because Tekken was one of the main reasons I got a PS3. =\
Anyway, you can argue that the original statement is *almost* true because every Tekken game so far has run on arcade hardware that was based on PS hardware, but still...
Twist @ Oct 9th 2008 12:38AM
This is good news except that I have been over this series since Tekken Tag Tournament.
FOXHOUND @ Oct 9th 2008 12:39AM
So... the worst TEKKEN of the series goes multi-platform? Expect an even further quality dip to mediate the two versions.
xavier @ Oct 9th 2008 12:41AM
ummmm am i the only one not suprised.....
i had a feeling it was going multiplatform when we stopped hearing about it...
to be honest i always thought it was a multiplatform from the start.....
*sigh
i guess we have to wait longer...
Chin-Poh @ Oct 9th 2008 12:49AM
Damn, Microsoft is really working hard this gen to get gamers on their side. And Sony losing exclusives that were mainstays on the PS1/PS2. AzureKnight or whatever his new name is, SexyKittyCat is shatting bricks in pure joy.
There's becoming less and less differences between the 360 and PS3. Sony should forget about securing 3rd party exclusives with all the money MS is throwing around and get some great 1st and 2nd party games out there like LittleBigPlanet, games from Team Ico, etc.
turkeybaster @ Oct 9th 2008 1:08AM
If you look at Sony's first party lineup for the next year or so, they really aren't going to have too many problems. I don't want to make a list or anything but their first-party studios are flooding the market with games in about one week from now.
Chin-Poh @ Oct 9th 2008 1:01AM
Now I'm expecting at each next gaming event concerning the 360, Microsoft will announce another PS3 exclusive coming over to the 360. First back at E3 with Final Fantasy 13 and now this with Tekken 6!
Why haven't you gotten Monster Hunter yet to really take over Japan Microsoft?
Trev @ Oct 9th 2008 1:28AM
Cue everyone that said Tekken sucked when they assumed it was a PS3 exclusive now loving it.
Snowblind @ Oct 9th 2008 5:43AM
People who hate Tekken are still going to hate Tekken, but from what I've seen, a lot of MS fans were wanting Tekken to be released on the 360 as well, and that was on the Soulcalibur forums just before it was released. I don't think Tekken has ever been a big arguement for fanboy wars.
So perhaps it's just time to cue the PS3 fanboys claiming that Tekken isn't that big a game anyway, and it doesn't matter it's on the 360? That's already started? Sorry :P
Sinister Rouge @ Oct 9th 2008 12:28PM
Tekken has always sucked. I'm a VF fanboy.
Shadow_Modder24 @ Oct 9th 2008 2:09AM
Well, I just hope it plays better or at least the same on the PS3 as it could on the X360. I mean, the lead platform is the PS3, hopefully, so it has to look and play better on it, I think..
Also, if releasing it at the same time will delay the PS3 version, it won't make some people happy. At least they should give out extra content of some form in the PS3..
Shattercross @ Oct 9th 2008 3:47AM
Meh, it's no surprise being as Namco's been pretty friendly with Microsoft as of late. Anyone wanna take bets on how gimped this game is going to be when Namco makes 2/3 of the content on disc paid DLC? I miss buying a complete game from Namco...
Ron @ Oct 9th 2008 4:00AM
This one is a shocker. But after Final Fantasy going to the XBOX 360, anything is possible. As a 360 owner I'm happy all of these once exclusive titles are coming to my console of choice. I really like DMC, FF, Tekken, and Star Ocean as well as all of the others. I only got a PS3 because I knew that Metal Gear Solid 4 would never see the light of day on the 360, and after I was done with that, it was back to the 360 for me. So all in all, this is great news.
pete @ Oct 9th 2008 7:14AM
i love how it says 33 million copies sold...none of that to do with xbox!
so why state it? dumbasses, anyway - we need ps3 - xbox360 online matches, then everyone would be happy
pete @ Oct 9th 2008 7:16AM
oh and i completely agree all the ppl who hated tekken will now love it since they can play it. but still - if loads of people buy it that means tekken 7 will be great, right?.
right!?
Maverick Saturn @ Oct 9th 2008 7:37AM
Glad its gone multi so that everyone can play and to be honest, I guess I partially suspected it would due to the amount of time its taking to release, should have been out yonks ago, VF, Soul Calibur and DOA have already come and gone and working on thier sequels, Tekken was and is still hidden from view so I'm expecting the graphics and gameplay to look godly, but ever since I saw the early trailers and gameplay videos, I can't say I feel as enthusiatic for this game as I was Tekken 5, it seems to have stuck with the same old fighting mechanics (not that I want vast changes, but fatigue could be added and keeping people in the air taken out).
I seriously doubt they will change anything from the arcade versions gameplay wise, so if nothing chnages, this will be the first Tekken game I avoid. I'm tight on money anyway.
pezman726 @ Oct 9th 2008 7:38AM
I don't get this. Everyone is like "tekken was made for the Playstation, it should stay there" To the best of my knowledge, tekken was released in the ARCADE FIRST, then ported over to the Playstation. So, by that logic, it should remain in the arcade, right?
Also, Tekken 6 was made for the arcade first, so it should stay there, right?
(Though, this argument is kind of pointless...seeing as how the main board used for the arcade Tekken 6 is the System 357 arcade board, which is basically a PS3 anyway!)
Maverick Saturn @ Oct 9th 2008 7:41AM
I wonder if Tekken will now do that exclusive DLC / exclusive character thing now.
I expect the next DOA titles and NG titles to do the same from now on with the departure of Itakagi and raising sales of PS3, so it's really no loss for anyone, everyone can play fighting games, yay! :)
Now you Xbox people who have not played Tekken or played Tekken in a long while, be prepared to feel my wrath and elite skills should I ever actually decide to get the new Tekken :D
Farseer (GDI) @ Oct 9th 2008 8:09AM
yeah....
PS3, 360, whatever. Tekken still sucks.
;)
