Step back Chief, Halo 3: Recon announced

Straight out of Microsoft's keynote address at the Tokyo Game Show comes confirmation of the new Halo 3 campaign that has been the subject of much speculation of late. The prologue, Halo 3: Recon, will cast new recruits in the steel-tipped boots of an ODST recon marine, giving series vet Master Chief a long-deserved breather when the addition rolls onto the front lines a bit later than expected in fall 2009.

If you could only see the disappointment on my face. A Halo 3 EXPANSION 2 yrs. after Halo 3 was released.

Whoopty fuckin doo! It won't look much better than Halo 3. Same engine. Halo 3's story was shit. Make a new game Bungie. For christs sake.

How do you know? Umm, link please because I haven't heard of this yet. Its an expansion yes, but nothing like Halo 3. Its not even gonna be a FPS so how can you know it will be the same engine just yet ya sour sally. >:(

It's almost guaranteed that this is going to run on the same engine solely because it's not practical or financially intelligent to develop a whole new engine for an expansion pack. It's possible they might make some tweaks to the engine or do some other changes that result in better visuals, however.

Please list some expansions that used a different engine or content to the game they were built off.

Yeah I guess you're probably right. Still, one can hope. Oh and yes it is indeed an expansion...on the Halo 3 universe. Not an official expansion like Shivering Isles was to Oblivian. This is a whole game by itself and I doubt they make it a DLC title. Thats what I was trying to say. Unless, I missed something thats what it seems liek it is.

That would be the Halo universe and if the title has Halo 3 in it with the rest being a subtitle, it's an expansion.

Well... both Mario and Master Chief games are good, and I definitely want more of both.

And let me tell you: yes, there will be a new Mario for the Wii 2.0 and a new Halo for the 720... and I like that.

The Halo universe is very big and has a lot of backstory. Think Star Wars. It's very easy to make many more games, about many different characters in different environments and scenarios.

Like has been pointed out, this has nothing to do with Master Chief, it's about the War on Earth against the Covenant with the ODST's.

If you don't like it, don't play it. I personally don't care for ANOTHER Gran Turismo game, but you don't see me whining.

I'm all about this game...And I'll be that this game runs on a updated GRAW 2 engine.....Cuz the GRAW guys are making this game....Which means
1.It will be good

2.It will be tactical

3.The Multiplayer will be awesome(Bungie will have 3 games in the top 5 most played XBLive games)

And here I thought they might be getting closer to finally stopping this crap. Has microsoft never heard of ending on a high note? or are they just going to keep milking the franchise till we actually do get halo tennis? The sad thing is they would still make billions off halo tennis...

In the end nothing will come close to halo (1). 2 was ok and 3 was a shittier version of 2 with more reflective shaders and over brightened hdr.

Id love to see bungie come out with a new series. If they can make something besides halo, or something that isnt halo with a different name and plot i will buy it.

Based on the rumors over at Bungie.net about this being a possible 3rd person Ghost Recon type game, I'd say this is essentially a new path for Bungie and not just another "Halo game".

I, personally, have no problem with it being in the Halo universe and expanding upon it's story.

Slightly off topic: I love Oni and I wish they'd put in on Live or something for download. Might have to see if I can get it running on my PC again just for old time's sake.
