You decide: Should LittleBigPlanet hit the reset button after beta?
With about four days to go before the LittleBigPlanet beta comes to an end, Sony has put out an interesting question to the public: Should it keep the "levels and items" created during the beta and carry those over to the game's launch, or start the whole thing from scratch? It is a question worthy of some discussion.
Anyone can vote in the LBP section of the Official PlayStation Forums before next Monday and Sony will go with whichever choice wins out. Sony is talking specifically about uploaded levels, any "save game data, offline creations or progress cannot be transferred into the full game." So, what's your course of action?

I'm gonna say no. I want to be able to download some great levels when he game first comes out.
MBO @ Oct 8th 2008 8:38PM
yes there might be some great stuff that people will still wanna play and bsides people who didnt get a key can try it out. plus it gives lbp a starting boost, tho it probably wont need it :P
brian @ Oct 8th 2008 8:40PM
i don't see any reason for doing what they want to, just leave the damn levels there.
they could make a best of beta pack at least imo.
emirabal @ Oct 8th 2008 8:42PM
Here is my take on this, i feel that it should all be reset, this way everyone is on teh same page, you get what im saying, i guess its just to be fair to the people who did not have the beta keys.
On teh other hand, it would be great to have all those user created items and levels to go off on from the get.
I guess im torn.
Final choice. DONT RESET.

People put a ton of time into some levels... They should be kept
Ethan @ Oct 8th 2008 8:43PM
Do a quick search for "penis" then keep everything else. Sort of like, raking the sand but keeping the sandcastles.
syrik zero @ Oct 8th 2008 8:48PM
That made me think of the original cover for The Little Mermaid
Great stuff
kaneda @ Oct 9th 2008 3:28PM
I'm confused. In the sand castles metaphor, the erect structures protruding up from the ground are not the penises?

See, I can do it too.

Resetting the levels would be retarded. There are some very good ones up there right now.
Also having hundreds of user created levels available on day one seems like it would make the game more fun for the people not in the beta.
Courtney @ Oct 8th 2008 8:51PM
I would tend to think that keeping the best or highest rated levels would be best, that way in the launch week there is high quality content available, but the crap hasn't started to fill in all the cracks yet.
I had wondered if they weren't going to purge all the levels due to issues with going from beta to gold. While there may not be significant changes to the code, even minor tweaks could break many levels and creations. If that's the case, purge away, as broken content is worse than no content.
Alan @ Oct 8th 2008 8:52PM
I finally got into the beta today, w00t!
I think they should keep all the content.
wocyob @ Oct 8th 2008 9:01PM
oh thank god.... im glad this came up i was soo worried that my levels will get deleted after the beta...so i was thinking what was the point for trying really hard to make a good level if it will get deleted in a few days.... now if everyone says yes then i dont have to worry at all!!!! woot
tmacairjordan87 @ Oct 8th 2008 9:00PM
I've seen some pretty incredible levels so I think they should stay. However, I'm fairly sure they didn't put everything in the beta create mode so in theory these levels are incomplete and maybe not even as good as they could be. Although I guess going back and editing a part of your level to include new stuff is easier than just making a new one.
I don't know I thought I knew the answer but now I'm torn.
j.howlett @ Oct 8th 2008 9:01PM
they should keep some stuff definitely if they don't keep it all

1) beta invites getting a head start on the general public is not fair.
2) a head start for some means more and better levels available closer to the launch date and not later.
3) hmm....

The problem with keeping some stuff and trashing the rest is that it's really a huge slap in the face to anyone who's level got deleted. It's easy to cast out the penises and 1-1 remakes, but some of the levels that weren't as popular may have taken their creators just as much time and effort, and it seems pretty disrespectful to simply dismiss that. This isn't school, it's a video game.
j.howlett @ Oct 8th 2008 10:10PM
now i'm thinking maybe they can do something so we can keep all the cool stuff we make and earn like how with the ninja gaiden sigma demo. you could earn points that you could use in the retail game. the only problem would be trophy support. at least let use keep the earned objects in the popit, i just got this sweet bulldozer.
Albanian_Killa @ Oct 8th 2008 10:14PM
It would be a shame to lose LittleBigCalculator, and all those other amazing levels, so no.
Mr Khan @ Oct 8th 2008 10:14PM
On the one hand, there is some allure to a total reset, just to put everyone back to square one, with some people just having a bit more experience in it than others.
On the other hand, a total reset would be a slap in the face to all the creators of all the glory that is
In turn, a middle of the road solution that preserves the cream of the crop (like that calculator) is unfair when posed with the simple question of who gets to choose what stays and what goes.
I actually say kill 'em all. Something so radical has to be good.
DrunkRaba @ Oct 8th 2008 10:23PM
Let them stay! There are a lot of really good levels already and for the people that want to just dive into playing other people's levels, this would be a great option especially in that first few days it would take people to get levels together.
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread) @ Oct 8th 2008 10:40PM
rate them and use the best ones. dont delete them all. that way you at least some custom made ones out of the box.
ogvor @ Oct 8th 2008 11:10PM
Keep highly rated levels, delete those few people played or weren't rated high. I know the this would still be contentious for some (what would the cut off be?) but it would save the best levels at least.
PhoenixP3K @ Oct 9th 2008 2:10AM
MMO betas don't let you port over your character to the retail game does it? Same principle should apply.
Rob @ Oct 9th 2008 11:02AM
I don't mind if they re-set the levels - just please don't make me re-do all the tutorials again!!
Jeffuiuc @ Oct 9th 2008 9:57AM
who cares. This game was terrible. I am SO GLAD I got to play the beta, becuase that allowed me to cancel my pre-order and save $60.
However, if I'm missing the point of this game, someone please set me straight. I just didn't like the game, nor did I get the point.
Thanks
SilverFireshot @ Oct 9th 2008 4:38PM
If you didn't like it after playing the beta you didn't like it. Different tastes. Personally, it's my pick for game of the year so far.
CLShortFuse @ Oct 9th 2008 11:09AM
Alex Evans confirmed it today at TGS. Beta levels will carry over. It's not a bad thing. This means you'll have a bunch of levels (and items) available at launch.
