Halo 3: Recon, the trailer
84
You want details? We don't got 'em. But, there might be something hidden in the video. Watch the new video above, or head over to Bungie's "Meet Our New Game" page to download the goodness of the Halo 3: Recon trailer, available in both Quicktime and Windows Media flavors.
Bungie / Microsoft really didn't agonize over choosing a name for Halo 3: Recon, did they? Maybe this hints at a slew of Halo 3 Fill-In-The-Blank titles that'll stretch your H3 experince from now until the year 2041, when your brain just gets dropped right into the game. Who knows, by then you might actually be able to just get an injection that'll make you Master Chief.
By the way, this Halo 3: Recon video footage is also available in sparkling high-definition on the Xbox Live Marketplace, so if you're really jonesing for something to pick apart and agonize over for the next umpteen months, then get to downloading. It's free and waiting for you.

more like Halo: Blue Shift
on a lighter note, I'm glad to see a game in the really deep halo universe without Master "bullet absorber" Chief, and I hope it plays more like COD4, or Ghost Recon, where your pretty much screwed if you leave cover for more than a few seconds.

Couldn't be less excited now. What the hel! is that? Am I now to be some lame As$ marine, the same ones I accidently ran over with my tank? Cause that sounds pretty ghey.
Hopefully this wont be the "Splinter cell conviction" of the halo franchise.

Prepare to drop? No moar liek Brix have been shat .
I don't know what makes Halo news so exiting but you have to give credit to Bungie that trailer kicked ass.
If this is anything like "Halo:Blue shift" this is an instant buy.

it's funny you say that Sam, because at least in Halo Master Chief is supposed to have a super sophisticated suit to protect him from bullets, but characters in CoD 4 can still take 20x the normal amount of bullets it takes to kill someone wtihout any reason.

i'm talking about multiplayer, you know, where you cant change the difficulty. Even on veteran in singleplayer it's still dumb, with Halo it makes sense because the "health" recharging is a shield, but in CoD 4 you're average joe soldier can miraculously recover in seconds from a barrage of bullets and grenades.

First time I've ever actually been excited for anything "Halo"... Except for, of course, Halo: Combat Evolved.

That trailer really is too cool..
This game looks to be so much darker than Master Chief's story.

Hopefully that's the case. I've always thought Halo could've used some more darker undertones instead of being more like a fun b-grade alien movie.

I suspect you're a closet 360 fanboy, why else would you spell MS like M$, thereby differentiating your secret favourite company from the horrible Disease also called MS.

Well you see, we already know what Halo looks like. We know how the graphics appear. So a CGI trailer is not deceiving like it is many times when Sony uses it.

We know how Master Chief's story looks like, and how it plays... we literally know nothing of this, except for the fact it's hinting at a much darker setting and will probably play a bit different lol.

The big difference is that MS just typically waits longer to announce the stuff.
Yeah, the PS3's future lineup looks good with games like God of War 3, GT5, etc, but how far off are those games and how long have we known about them?
MS has plenty of franchises coming that are just as big. Do you really think either of those games are going to come out before say, Mass Effect 2, even though that hasn't been announced or talked about yet? Doubtful.
Hell, Gears 2 wasn't even announced until a few months ago, and it comes out next month! Same thing for NXE, while it's not as big an upgrade as Home, proportionally from the time of announcement to the time of launch it's crazy different than the same time factor for Home even when you take into account how ambitious each is.
MS has had a ridiculous lineup of games the last couple years, and you're kidding yourself if you think next year is going to be any different.
Sony as a whole just announces stuff way earlier. It was the same thing with Blu-ray/HD DVD. Blu-ray would announce their lineup for the entire year, while HD DVD would typically announce theirs a few months prior to the movie's releases. Back before Blu-ray started pulling ahead, the Blu-ray/HD DVD forums would be all "OMG look at how many awesome blu-ray movies are coming out next year and there's only like 6 HD DVD releases LOL", and then of course when those Blu-rays were actually released they were accompanied by just as strong a selection of HD DVDs.
It's the same thing here. At this point last year, what did we know of MS's 2008 fall lineup? Nothing, there was nothing for the future. All we knew was that there was no way it could possibly live up to the incredible 2007 fall lineup, MS had blown their load. Yet here we are in fall of 2008 with more great games than people can find time to play, and a lineup that is arguably better than that unbeatable fall 2007 lineup.
We'll probably see the same thing next year. They just don't typically announce this stuff super early. Even this Recon trailer (1 year in advance) is early for MS, yet it pales in comparison to the amount of time we'll have known about KZ2 or GoW3 or GT5 prior to their releases.

The trailer was kind of meh, but I guess you have to be a Halo fan to like something like this.
The cartoon face image and signs gave me a Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy vibe, don't know why.

Halo 3: Recon, I could think of better...
Halo 3:
Front Line,
Battlefront,
Beyond the Mjolnir,
Rising Suns,
Vegas,
Origins,
DS,
Ace Attorney,
Zero,
The Covenent Chronicles,
Revolution,
or my personal favorite:
Reloaded... actually DS is my favorite.

Well, the thing is though, is that I believe this is actually part of the major story of the Halo universe, and it revolves around the ODST on earth. So it would only make sense to name it something like Recon. Also:
Front Line (sounds cool)
Battlefront (ehhh..)
Beyond the Mjolnir (too long of a title lol)
Rising Suns (That's ironic to the video)
Vegas (Africa :x)
Origins (Origins of what? D:)
DS (Haha)
Ace Attorney (Hell yeah)
Zero (Meaning: He's a zero compared to MC?)
The Covenent Chronicles (Covenant weren't on earth at the time)
Revolution (If it's completely different, then yeah)

Xbox.com names it off as a "Standalone Expansion" with a full featureset as far as an entirely new campaign with wholly unique elements new to the series, online matchmaking, forge, four player co-op, and its own set of unique maps. Sounds like a full game to me.

Where are all of the crybabies that say why show CGI trailers? Hmmmn?
All of the backlash that Sony gets for showing CGI trailers and looky here...MS does the SAME thing.
I don't have a problem with CGI trailers...some of you do, but ONLY when it's Sony right Asshat and pals?
