TGS 08: Monster Hunter 3 is kind of a big deal, pt 1
Trust us, they're the lucky ones -- come Saturday (when the floor opens to the public), we'll show you just how far this thing can go. While we assemble our hands-on impressions of the game, take a peek at the trailer after the break. And yes, that is a Wii game.

Good game... first Monster Hunter game I will play. I hope it supports WiiSpeak, so I can play with my Joystiq MSN friends.
And also: Joystiq... do you know if Tatsunoko vs Capcom is coming to USA?
I like both Street Fighter and Tatsunoko vs Capcom, but I like TvC gameplay and anime characters a little bit more than Street Fighter.

"Good game... first Monster Hunter game I will play."
Fernandos, how do you know if this is a good game? Especially since you have never played MH b4. Your blind fanboyism to the Plumber sometimes just reeks of stupid.
If this were instead a PS3 exclusive, I am absolutely sure that you would bash it endlessly.
You just proved once again that your are a blind fanboy. At least once in a while I will give credit to MS or Nintendo (very rarely with Nintendo) but for you? If its on the Wii its AUTOMATICALLY a good game 95% of the time and its automatically a BAD game if its on PS3 only.
Pathetic

"Fernandos, how do you know if this is a good game? Especially since you have never played MH b4. Your blind fanboyism to the Plumber sometimes just reeks of stupid."
First of all, is Fernando, not Fernandos.
I haven't played any Monster Hunter game, but I know is a good series. And the videos looks very good.
"If this were instead a PS3 exclusive, I am
absolutely sure that you would bash it endlessly."
Just like you are bashing this game in your comment below just because is a Wii exclusive.
Besides, check my comment history. It's been months since I bash Sony or since I made a comment in a Sony related topic.
"If its on the Wii its AUTOMATICALLY a good game 95% of the time and its automatically a BAD game if its on PS3 only."
Again, you bash AUTOMATICALLY every Wii game, and praise any PS3 game.
"Pathetic"
A lot of people can agree that you are the most pathetic commenter of all Joystiq.

@Killbejus
Well since I found out Nando likes Master Chief I will defend him...lolz
Every Monster Hunter game since the first title no matter what console has been a hit the total sales sits somewhere around 7 million units so its a pretty damn big deal....So when Nando calls it a good game it deserves that title...Seeing how it sells an ass load....Now I know your gonna give me the Wii play argument, or the Madden Argument because YES they sell a lot and you will consider them bad games or w/e to BUT somebody tinks they are good...Thats why they sell every month.....
So Monster Hunters continued success tells me that the Japanese really love this game, they consider it good and thats all that matters......So F*&K! your opinion and let Nando have his damn MONSTER HUNTERS AND LIKE IT! F&^*$N FANBOY TROLL
Mr Khan @ Oct 9th 2008 11:52AM
Fernandos is a plural, i think, lumping all of us together with you.
Can't really fathom how his mind works, but that's my estimate.
Killjebus @ Oct 9th 2008 11:53AM
"I haven't played any Monster Hunter game, but I know is a good series."
Wow Fernandos...you just proved my point about you being a blind fanboy again. Thats funny you try to defend yourself yet you just prove my point again.
I have not played Zac and Wiki but I KNOW its a bad game.
See how stupid that sounds?
And I have not bashed every single Wii game, I am intrigued by Madworld, and I still want to try out Boomblox.
Just because you have toned down your bashing for all things Playstation dose not mean that you are still a blind fanboy. But it looks like you took your bash Sony persona to N4G and Videogame charts, so you are still at it...just not here.
I do not care if most people on this blog don't like me, I am not here for a popularity contest, I know who I am as a person and that is good enough for me.
Why does it matter SO MUCH to you that you are liked on a blog with a bunch of people you probably will never see?
I want videogames to continue to evolve with both gameplay and technology...with the Wii, the technology part is simply NOT POSSIBLE.
Killjebus @ Oct 9th 2008 11:56AM
@ExMcCloud
I never said MH was a bad game. All I was pointing out was that Fernandos was saying that despite not ever playing it, he states that it IS a good game.
Yes, this is a huge franchise in Japan. If you look at my other post I point this out.

ExMcCloud @ Oct 9th 2008 12:04PM
Yeah I saw your other post...It was crap just like this one....Maybe the Fanbase is big for a reason.....Maybe the game is actually good...Maybe thats why the line was longer than the Foodstamp line....You don't kno if its gonna be bad just like he doesnt know if its gonna be good...He's goin of prior knowledge, you know facts, evidence?
Monster Hunter always has sky high reviews in Japan, it sells A LOT, and people are standing in a city long line just to look at it? What about this game would make you think it wouldnt be good?
Killjebus @ Oct 9th 2008 12:15PM
@McCloud
This is an excerpt from my 1st post...
"This is without a doubt the biggest coup for the Wii. I have never played much of Monster Hunter, I tried it and I do not see the big deal, however this game has a huge following in Japan."
Where does it say that I said it was a bad game? To me it looks like I said it has a huge following in Japan and nothing about the game itself being bad.
It does say that I tried the series out for myself and I did not see the big deal, but I never said the game was bad.
Mogster @ Oct 9th 2008 12:21PM
Killjebus stop being an ass. Any gamer worth their salt knows MH is a good series (despite the metacritic scores)whether they've played it or not. So to pick at Fernando for saying this will be a good is immature and pathetic. Period.
SecretAgentHam @ Oct 9th 2008 12:25PM
why does Nando's posts of positivity always bring the negative people? cant he just be excited for a game that everyone knows is going to be decent at the least? leave him alone, he's simply stating his opinion on the blog, not bashing anything. leave him be.
on another note, i for one am extremely excited for this game and cant wait till it comes out state side!
ExMcCloud @ Oct 9th 2008 12:27PM
I will acknowledge that and apologize for that comment then...Seeing how I'm a fair guy....But bashing someone for sayin the game would be good is unnecessary...So what if he hasn't played it...I haven't played LBP but I call it a good game...Should I get bashed for that? I think not...You gave your meaningless opinion in that quote as well about how you don't "see the big deal"...Ok who cares about an opinion with nothing to back it up.No one...The real problem lies with the fact that YOU thought it would be cool to initiate a verbal lashing upon Nando because you didnt like that he said the game was good without playing it.....We don't do that here on Joystiq...We promote peace...You sounded like you were either a troll or someone who hates Nando...I like Nando SO I refuse to let you verbally bash him or anyone else on the site FOR NO GOOD REASON
Monkeys Suck @ Oct 9th 2008 12:32PM
@Killjebus
Facts don't lie. The series is good. It sells very well. Would you say that the Final Fantasy series is good, even if you didn't play a single one? Of course you would, cause it's recognized as a great series. Sure, some of the series may not have been as good as others, but the point still stands that it's great, and all gamers can recognize that.
Delgado @ Oct 9th 2008 12:33PM
Fernando, I think this whole thing would have been avoided it you had just said "I think this will be a good game" instead of just saying "good game," like you had already played it.
Not to excuse Killjebus' douchebaggery, just saying.
Vidikron @ Oct 9th 2008 12:51PM
Meh... I personally think the MH series is stupid and don't understand the appeal, but I'm sure people would say the same about some of the games I play.
But I do hope Tatsunoko vs Capcom comes to the US. I'd prefer a system other than the Wii, but I'll take what I can get as long as it launches in the US.
samfish @ Oct 9th 2008 1:18PM
KillJebus, the game isn't even OUT yet, you dimwit.
what Fernando said about it being a good game is NO different that whenever YOU shill for an unreleased Sony game or when *I* shill for MadWorld or when ANYONE talks about how great any unreleased game will be.
At any rate, I'm not even sure how you can bitch about Fernando being a blind fanboy. Holy shit, if that isn't a case of the pot calling the kettle black, I don't know WHAT is. Have some freakin' dignity.
Ciatrick Leodis McKelvin @ Oct 9th 2008 7:41PM
Wow everyone here is loving the kissing of fernandos butt. Obvious enough he is a wii idiot like others here. Maybe the killjeebus is a idiot of the playstation like others.
Funny that people will stick up for one jerk but then talk bad about a different jerk.
If fernando says it will be good but has never play the game series before its obvious because it is only on wii that he likes it. That is a dumb idiot fanboy.
sounds like killjebus is telling some truth others dont want to listen though. He is probably a idiot jerk also in some cases. it seems what he said has truth because every jump to defend there friend fernando.
Before people make fun of my speak english is my 3rd language.
Dash @ Oct 9th 2008 1:58PM
Why does killjebus always stalks Fernando? The guy can't make any comment without kj bashing him.
But hey, I'm really looking foward to this game too. I really liked the others of the series, and besides Capcom is really trying do their best here. Just to appease the stalkers: I THINK it will be a good game, and I will buy it and PROBABLY enjoy it a lot. But I can say for sure it will sell millions in Japan.
Suichimo @ Oct 9th 2008 11:09AM
I absolutely can not wait for this game. My friends will also be excited for the splitscreen for times when we can't find a Wi-fi connection.
Definitely a day one purchase and a must have for any Wii owner.

WRE @ Oct 9th 2008 11:21AM
Were the ones for the PSP any good? Is the story a continuation? Should I go buy the previous installments? Would somebody answer these questions?!
Suichimo @ Oct 9th 2008 11:25AM
The PSP ones were decent but, at the same time, you'll find that within the MH community the console games are favored.
There isn't really a story per se. The closest thing is that you start as an amateur hunter, kill monsters, make weapons and armor out of said monsters, repeat. You'll get to take on stronger things as you progress.
Yeah. Monster Hunter for the PS2 would be a good place but if you have a PSP go for Monster Hunter Freedom 2. It won't have the same controls but you will get a feel for what the game is like.
PSN: Wild_Pegasus @ Oct 9th 2008 11:27AM
There isn't much of story to be honest, Just kill a monster, use its materials to make better better weapons and armour to kill tougher monsters, Rinse repeat it gets addicting ^^
Just Mr ESC. @ Oct 9th 2008 11:29AM
-Were the ones for the PSP any good?
Yes but sadly they were crippled by the system but they were fun.Lots of stuff to do and kill and the customization options are really neat cool.
The music is just epic.
-Is the story a continuation?
As far as I know I think the story goes something like this; you wake up one morning with your feet cold and a need for some dragon skin sleepers so you see in the window some Big ass dragon killing and burning stuff. Then you say to yourself: “that should do it”.
No story other than kill Big a$$ monsters, some medium monsters and maybe some little ones not to mention the really big A$$ Monsters.
- Should I go buy the previous installments?
If you have a PSP MHF should be cheap by now but if you can get the Ps2 versions I would go with those.
-Would somebody answer these questions?!
No, Use Google Mother*****

"As far as I know I think the story goes something like this; you wake up one morning with your feet cold and a need for some dragon skin sleepers so you see in the window some Big ass dragon killing and burning stuff. Then you say to yourself: “that should do it”."
I love that friggin description.
Just Mr ESC. @ Oct 9th 2008 11:21AM
Yes.
I played the PSP versions and they are pretty damn fun the bad thing is that MHF drains the battery in 2 or 3 hours and the loading times killed the game but it is really good.
I would totally play this.
PSN: Wild_Pegasus @ Oct 9th 2008 11:30AM
I will probably pick up a Wii just for this game, clocked in over 600 hours on the psp games.
Just a lil worried how the controls will turn out :\ How have other Capcom games been on the Wii? Not waggle fests i hope :(
Or i can just hope they do a U - turn on a Playstation 3 version :D
Suichimo @ Oct 9th 2008 11:33AM
The most motion the controls are going to take is turning of the wrist and thats to switch between different attacks, think NMH. You can find the controls for some of the different weapons here: http://www.capcom.co.jp/monsterhunter/3/page08.html
Also, remember that you can use the Classic Controller which will probably end up working just like the PS2 controller did.
Killjebus @ Oct 9th 2008 11:37AM
Not likely, why would they spend millions more on development costs for an install base that is smaller than the Wii's? Not to mention the much cheaper development costs since the technology that they are developing this game on is 10 years old.
If they really wanted to make the best game possible, they would have bitten the bullet and made it for the PS3. I would bet that the developers and programmers of this game want to work with the PS3 to see what they can really do....but the suits decided otherwise.
From a business standpoint, I can hardly blame them. I just fell sorry for the people that want to make the best game possible and work on the most cutting edge console tech available.
600 hours? WOW, that is alot of time. Other than previous Maddens and Worms, I have not spent that much time on any game. I just do not have the time.
Mr Khan @ Oct 9th 2008 11:42AM
Ahh, but its different in Japan once again. In a land where consoles are king, the PC development mindset of being able to push the technological envelope is less prominent
Instead, you see devs who like to push the technology of the console in question, as you can see in the video (very little of which was obviously pre-rendered). Like Kojima-san working to get the most out of the PS3, these guys work to get the most out of the Wii
Szu @ Oct 9th 2008 11:48AM
It has been confirmed by Famitsu magazine that the game will support the Classic Controller.
ExMcCloud @ Oct 9th 2008 12:09PM
Good lord 600 hours I am jelous of your L33Tness can you teach me the ways of the Monster Hunter?
tmacairjordan87 @ Oct 9th 2008 12:26PM
"these guys work to get the most out of the Wii"
Judging how archaic and weak the hardware is I don't think they'll have to work too hard on that.
Killjebus @ Oct 9th 2008 11:26AM
This is without a doubt the biggest coup for the Wii. I have never played much of Monster Hunter, I tried it and I do not see the big deal, however this game has a huge following in Japan.
It is unfortunate that this game will not be played in glorious HD with the physics and huge worlds to back it up. Instead it will be played in muddy SD with blocky polygons, jaggies, bland textures, and all of the other things you get from nearly 10 year old hardware.
I wonder how much better (if any) MH3 will look than the PSP version?
This is my biggest reason for my hatred of the Wii, it has become so popular that game devs are forced to work with backwards and decade old technology. Maybe the waggling will make up for the crappy hardware, then again...maybe not.
I feel sorry for those of you who love this franchise.
Fernando Rocker @ Oct 9th 2008 11:32AM
"... it has become so popular... "
Don't worry... according to your previous comments, the Wii will die in the next month (two years after the release date).
Killjebus @ Oct 9th 2008 11:42AM
For the most part the Wii is on its deathbed with gamers...it just looks like the soccermoms and grandmas are going to take longer to get sick of it.
You know it and I know it, most people that get the Wii play it non-stop for a month or 2, then it collects dust. The reason the Wii keeps selling is because when Grandpa or Aunt whoever comes over for a party, they ask to see that WSM and the virus spreads yet again.
After a few months, that person gets sick of the virus and puts it away, but when they have a party the virus infects more people...and the cycle starts all over again.
Mr Khan @ Oct 9th 2008 11:50AM
Deathbed with gamers? Depends on where you look. Again, in the West, its almost a non-factor when the hardcore devs look at it. Top guns like Infinity Ward and Epic scorn it. The people clamoring for more realism and for cinematic experiences are bored to tears and find nothing appealing
The hardcore following of the Wii is very much different from the hardcore following of PS360PC, aside from the old-school Nintendo fanboys. Less vocal, lower standards of "quality" as the other camp would coin the phrase, we are content
The lineup of "Gamers' games" on Wii is only growing, with more and more of those contributions coming from Japan. And it's pleasing for a section of the market that followed the PS2 because PS2 was the place to go for most of the obscure Eastern gems
No More Heroes 2 was re-confirmed as a Wii exclusive, btw. January 2010 for North America. So long, so long, but since 2009 is only looking stronger and stronger, it's not a problem.
Fernando Rocker @ Oct 9th 2008 11:55AM
Well... if people aren't playing with the Wii, then why the Wii sells more software than the PS3 every week and every month?
And I'm not lying.. you can check the previous NPD numbers or the previous Japanese sales.
http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/23/npd-reveals-top-5-console-games-of-08-so-far/
So, people is buying games and playing the system a lot.
ExMcCloud @ Oct 9th 2008 11:57AM
Man do you talk out of your ass or is SONY's cock sitting on the Pallet of your tounge?
Why are you commenting on this article if your here to take dumps on it.....Do u work for that SDF website?
Lars @ Oct 9th 2008 6:00PM
This is the reason I wish all games were cross-plat. Then these flame wars wouldn't break out. Each person can play his/her game on whatever console they want.
I'm just a fan of gaming, not a fanboy of some big corporation. Maybe it's because I've been primarily a PC gamer all my life that it seems silly to have any sort of brand loyalty. You never see Intel vs AMD flame wars when talking about a particular game. I love the Wii for what it's attempted to do, just like I loved my Power Glove back in the day, or Eye of Judgment more recently. Any out-of-the-box gaming I'm a fan of.
But I gotta say, for this particular game? I doubt they'll really take advantage of the Wii's controls... and I WOULD rather see it in 1080p. But of course I'll still buy it. The PSP game was awesome.
Lars @ Oct 9th 2008 6:20PM
@ExMcCloud
Um, he didn't mention Sony at all... Are you one of those extreme fanboys that not only sucks your own company of choice off, but also bash the competition if given any flimsy excuse?
t_m @ Oct 9th 2008 10:35PM
I tend to feel that having to work with hardware constraints brings out the best in game developers. Looks at what people can accomplish on the limited hardware when they put their mind to it...
Some of the best games ever have been on very limited hardware... the trick is to take note of it's strengths and weaknesses, and make them work to your advantage.
Mr Khan @ Oct 9th 2008 11:40AM
lol, Nintendo wins TGS by default
Especially if Dragon Quest IX makes an appearance.
Get this game to me before summer, and i will have something to while away the months (in between working summer jobs to pay for my gaming habit anyway)
Get it any later, and it will have to compete, i think. Even though MMO ARPGs are less of a time commitment than a proper MMO, you would still need at least two months solid to devote to this game
PSN: Wild_Pegasus @ Oct 9th 2008 11:43AM
oO Thanks for that! :D Now mine control fears are gone, just leaves me with online, hoping it turns out alright.
Yeah hate to say it but your probably right about a no go with the ps3 version and yup 600 hours is alot of time :P when me and my brothers get playing we just can't stop, its a game thats very challenging i guess thats the appeal to most of us monster hunter nuts out there
Dirty @ Oct 9th 2008 11:42AM
This is going to be huge...... in Japan. If microsoft wanted to take over in japan, they should be sitting with Capcom executives figuring a way to make the next monster hunter come to their console.
The monster graphics are impressive for the wii, but at the sacrifice of the environments, they look super flat. Also isnt this supposed to be an online experience, hunting monsters with a friend? Better hope the voice chat works with it.
