TGS 08: Quantum Theory confirmed as PS3 exclusive

The Team Tachyon director, who candidly described the game as Japan's answer to titles like Gears of War, is sticking to the predominantly Western genre's "basics," while making sure that his country's "skills and talent are incorporated." You'll note that the game's art employs a more expanded color palette, though not at the expense of unfeasibly enormous biceps. The traditional, post-apocalyptic environment is augmented here by a striking "living tower," a labyrinthine structure that the game's protagonist and his occasional female foil must traverse and ultimately defeat.
Taking a page corner from Fracture, Shibata noted that the "shape-shifting" environments within the tower would constantly change in real time, either providing new cover or creating unexpected dangers. With the game not being due until late 2009, however, we were unable to see this feature in practice. But at least that leaves plenty of time to tweak the game's name. In response to our suggestion to incorporate the word "tower" to better highlight the game's oblong villain, Shibata joked that it would ultimately be inappropriate for the tower-less sequel.

It's that desperate need to incorporate typical RPG elements. Why does there have to be that general character look too - because it’s like FF and people in Japan love that apparently. They need to just shake off that formula a bit. Otherwise, the games looking pretty nice.

Yes it looks great but its just a trailer and not actual gameplay so I will reserve my opinion till I see the final product. Sony likes to tease everyone with FMV.

Lol, I love how Sony has made this name for itself 'Trailers = Nothing at all like actual gameplay', even when a developer that is known for having trailers that look similar to gameplay decides to go exclusive they get shoved into the same category.

Looks generic.
I hope it's good though, but laser guns never have the same visceral feeling that bullet guns do, which is why I never got into Unreal Tournament much.

it was a CG trailer that looked nothing like Ninja Gaiden. if anything it looked like Gears of War meets laser-rays with Final Fantasy facial models. i was never a big fan of Tecmo's modern games (imo, XBox's Ninja Gaidens' and DOAs were pretty overrated), but maybe now they can pull off some fresh ideas minus the fanboy syndrome that Itagaki was known for.

It looks cool....Tecmos making it so Im skeptical...So I wont be buyin it for my PS3 BUT they need to lose the Gears of War comment.....The first thing I said is PFFT....Gears is awesome now your game has huge shoes to fill. Hopefully they stay away from the GOW comparisons to HELP their game

Certainly does look like Gears of Japan. It does look delightfully over the top in the Ninja Gaiden/Devil May Cry way, but I'll reserve judgment until we see some gameplay.

Looks okay so far, mixed feelings. Its Gears of war / Final Fantasy / Ninja Gaiden all in one :S An interesting mix, and I suppose an interesting outcome, they say it is thier Japanese answer to Gears of War, well the outfits certainly point out the Japanese point of veiw.
Not suprised by the replies in the slightest, as soon as I saw Tecmo and exclusive to Sony in the same sentance, I automatically expected a mention of Itakagi missing so lowered quality and the fact it would only go multiplat later etc etc, gos to show people have always been predictable on this site, lmao

Its a good mix of Gears of War(Third Person Shooter)/Ninja Gaiden(Fast Paced Action)/Final Fantasy(Unvelibable Main Characters Moves on CGI that won't be able to pull on actual game)/Soul Calibur (Character Design)
So maybe its a sold for me, as there is no GoW2 love outside the 360

The title makes sense to me in a pseudo-science kind of way. The idea of a changing environment seems like a sci-fi use of quantum mechanics to me.

I've still got some uncertainty about this one. On the one hand, the superposition of the generic too-hot chick in impractical cloths, the generic looking gameplay, and the lack of any discernible excuse for the title is a real bummer, but the entanglement of the imaginiative backgrounds and enemies is interesting.
I'll keep an eye on the wavevector of this one, see where it's probably heading

But seriously looks like a fun mindless action game. Tecmo might not have the strongest art team but they always deliver on mechanics (at least under itagaki) lets hope this one will deliver
