Surprising almost no one, Tekken 6 has been officially announced for a fall 2009 release on the PS3/Xbox 360. The new English language trailer takes us to the magical world of Tekken, where kangaroos and pandas can hold grudge matches against fat people. Who says games aren't art?

Less PS3 exclusives mean less reason for NEW purchasers to choose PS3 over X. Current owners will be affected by the lesser future install base by the lesser developer support.
This is why current PS3 owners should be concerned about exclusive going multi...
I guess.

Very strong showing from MS.
Tekken 6 and a NEW Halo?
That's excellent news no matter how much sony fanboys like tmac and ninja want to spin it.

Tekken 6 yes, new halo no ¬_¬
Micro always announces Halo titles at events, so its always expected, and its not as if recon was the worlds biggest secret. We just didn't know the name or the gameplay style, but we suspected.
Either way, Halo recon looks good, as long as it is more focused on Stealth and tactics and less on none stop brainless shooting.

Tekken, just like Soul Caliber, has always catered towards to the button masher.
I always liked the humour of this series - a boxing kangaroo is always win - but at the same time it often felt like Namco was trying to use flashy distraction to hide the game's shallowness.

Play online and button mash. When you're done your nonsense string of attacks and pause, I will begin juggling you.

You've clearly never played high-level Tekken. Button-mashing will get you nowhere.

Admittedly Tekken is a button masher, however, if you are experienced enough you can overcome that. People have played with thier feet and won matches, if that is possble, then a game is nothing but a button masher. And notice how noobs who have no idea what they are doing can still beat you in a match if you don't watch yourself, fortunatly that wouldn't happen in say WWE games because simply pressing the same thing won't get you very far. You 'need' tactics to win.

I only say that because back in the days of Tekken 3 and 4 there were times I would button mash to win in tournaments :P I admit, I have no reason to hide it.
Tekken 5 however twisted things a little, defence became quite important, and playing online prooves that, but from time to time in frustration, we do button mash to see if it pulls off anything and sometimes I win sometimes it doesn't work, just depends who I'm up against.

to each their own i guess. but $460+ (PS3 and Tekken 6) vs. $60 (just Tekken on 360), i would say you made out like a bandit in that case lol.

And it looks like we still can't tag... even though we could back on the original Playstation with TekkenTag... still the best Tekken IMO.
Ah well, there's no use complaining. Tekken lost a lot of its fun for me when I went to my first tournament and saw that everyone's strategy was to hit you in the air, and then jab-juggle you as many times as they could. It made the matches very boring.

Sony has decided it's going to put it's money into first party development instead of moneyhatting 3rd partys. I think it's a good idea. You can still play Tekken 6 on the PS3 and it should be the better version since the arcade version runs on PS3 board. You can also take the exclusive moneyhat funds and make a new game that will always be exclusive.

Yes, Sony thinks years ahead in their business dicisions. They saw the writing on the wall years ago in terms of 3rd party exclusives. Now that they have over 15 1st party studios...3rd party exclusives for the most part are irrelevant.
MS is really in a tight spot because they have almost no 1st party studios and they have to rely on paying thru the nose to just be a part of former PS franchises.
For now on, PS exclusives will remain exclusive simply for the fact that Sony has so many 1st party studios. In the long run, I think Sony is in much better shape.
I don't mind if MS buys a piece of the PS pie...just as long as they don't buy a delayed release of the PS version just so they can say same day launch or force the PS version to be dumbed down to fit on old media and aging hardware like GTA4 was.

I love Tekken and all, but the game hasn't shown any innovation in years. After Tag, every other new version is exactly the same with a few new characters.

You can say that about most 3D fighting game franchises, like Virtua Fighter and Soul Calibur. New characters, a few new gameplay mechanics and that's it.
It's normal though. You have to compare fighting games to sports games. It's not about changing the rules, it's about perfecting the existing rules. If they changed Tekken too much, it wouldn't be Tekken anymore.

Nobody is asking for a complete overhaul Izzy but while many may say FPS games have not changed, more or less they have, cover systems have been introduced, autotargeting, duel wielding, 2 weapons at a time, better plots. There has been a degree of innovation despite how small.
Same could be said for racing with realistic crashing, enviromental effect on the vehicle, etc etc.
Tekken however is still the same old Tekken from Tekken 2. You can still stupidly keep people in the air, they say they have destructable enviroments, but apart from the ground which seems to be repairing itself in the trailers I've seen, nothing much else seems to be ....well...destructing :S Clothes can't be torn, armour can't be damaged, people can hit invisible walls where they should really be flying over barriers, characters never get tired or even remotly sweaty, theres not create a character mode so we are once again forced to play with the premade characters, unlike the likes od Soul Calibur and VF. Storylines are still cheezy with panda bears and Kangeroos saving the world.
All in all, the best thing I have seen in Tekken is that robot at the end, even the boss before that is stupid which is supposed to be the main boss of the game and yet while towering above all characters in the game can be tossed about like a tennis ball.
Its all too much, I want the same Tekken in the sense I want the gameplay controls and designs to remain similar because they define Tekken, but I want more of a fight, I want to experience a Jackie Chan movie or Jet Li movie for myself, right now Tekken isn't giving me that ¬_¬

@Maverick,
I can list you a ton of little changes Tekken has had since Tekken 2:
- Just-Frame moves;
- Sidestep cancel;
- Backdash cancel;
- Sidewalk;
- Air throws;
- Reach throws;
- Walls;
- Complete overhaul of jumping;
Changes between Tekken 5 and 6:
- Bounce Juggles
- Rage thingy when you're almost dead
- Leveled stages
Today's Tekken is NOTHING like Tekken 2.

Most of those are so minor you woulnd't notice them unless mentioned, and most of them took place between Tekken 3 and 4 with the exception of jumping. Other then that, nothing significant has changed apart from the rage thing, but even the rage thing seems slightly monotonous without anything visible to show how effective it is, anger, desperation all could be shown through the way your character acts and feels, maybe moves are spead up, maybe techniques become more fluent, more aggressive. Weapons have been added and god knows why if they are default weapons, if anything, I would have prefered bar brawling, in the sense that each level has objects you could use.
Why not use the environment to cause more damage, for example, get close to a window and drop kick thier face through it. Now that would be worth getting hyped about. I want to be able to pull off stylish finishers, I know breaking bones would be too violent, but how about final round final attacks. Boundaries are limitless, and if an FPS and RPG that require so much level detail, if GTA that requires so much attention can make such significant changes, changes you notice while still keeping the same gameplay we all know and love, why can't Tekken?
How about weight? Why is it you can still toss Jack a flipping steel plated robot around like a plastic toy. They never seem presurized by anything, don't they tire? I can think of lots of ideas they could have implemented without some grand graphics or programming scheme.

Poeple can't say they were as suprised by this as they were for FF13.
The hints have been there for ages.
1. VF going multi and Nacmo being close to Sega made it more intlligent to go multi.
2. Soul Calibur went multi and while it may never have been exclusive, it has always been favoured on PS up until this version.
3. The game has been delayed for ages now
4. One of the developers was in an interview not to long ago and said that multiplat could be an option but did not confirm.
5. From a technical standpoint, apart from loyalty, there is really no reason for Tekken to be an exclusive to PS3. Xbox can handle the graphics, length, and pretty much everything Tekken has to offer unlike say something like MAG.
I knew it was coming, but it hasn't changed my mind on the game, hype has died down on it because it looked as though it never planned to come out at all, and the game itself hasn't changed much since Tekken 5. Saying that, what would rekindle my interest is if they had cross platform online mode, why not have PS3 owners face-off against 360 ownera.

That was okay on PSP, but come on, this is the next gen, cracking floors just won't do, I want smashing walls, smashing heads through glass, seriously destructable enviroments, I want power!!!!!! :D

I am glad I have not cared about fighting games since ThrillKill. What could take so long for this game to come out in fall of 2009? Oh, thats right...because they probably did not start development for the 360 version until very recently.
So, the fighting fans that have PS3's are forced to wait for a game that is probably close to being finished for the PS3.
This in my opinion is the biggest problem with MS buying up 3rd party former PS exclusives. It forces the long-time loyal PS fans to wait for a game that they could be playing now.
By the way...have fun with that ridiculous D-pad on the 360 controller. I cannot imagine how difficult it will be to do those precise button taps with that poor excuse for a D-pad.
