A video demonstration of Halo Wars from TGS has hit GameTrailers, and we think it's fairly safe to say that the game is looking pretty good. Then again, we thought as much when we got a chance to play it at E3, so what would you expect? Nevertheless, the video showcases some things that we didn't see at E3, namely a commander unit, the Vulture "Uber Unit," and a new command ability called the Cryo Bomb which freezes enemy units, giving you extra time to destroy them.
Without a doubt though, the most intriguing part of the video happens right at the end of the demonstration, when we get our first glimpse at the Flood. We only get a general idea of how the Flood base is structured and also a brief look at the Infection Forms as well as what look like (former) human Combat Forms.
Now, if we can just get this time machine working, we can play it right now.
The game is 20yrs before Halo 1, right? Up until that point the Flood were in containment on teh Halos, which weren't visited by humans until Halo 1. Or what am I missing?
If humans have no knowledge of the flood for Halo1... then it stands to reason that no human survives the Halo Wars storyline or the survivors never got back to human controlled space. My two cents...
im not a halo fan but i love RTS games and halo Wars might be what it takes for me to try one on a console.. it looks like theyve conquered some of the major control issues, now all i need to see is a third race (the flood) ala Starcraft to seal the deal..
hopefully theyll work out the balancing issues prelaunch, i hate it when they change hit points and build times after the fact..
Looks fairly decent. Although the controls are not what I expected at all. They said that Pikmin was the main inspiration for the controls so I was expecting something more....interesting and not the simplistic "mouse with right click menu" control scheme used here (not that these controls are a bad thing, simplistic controls are great for an RTS).
