An article on the PlayStation Games & Media News site reveals that a PSN version of Prince of Persia Classic is on its way. The PSN version appears to be the same as the XBLA release from last year, which saw a graphical and control upgrade to the original (and retro frustrating) Prince of Persia from 1989.
There's currently no price announced for the title, but if we had to guess, it would be $10 like the XBLA version. We've contacted Ubisoft and asked about a release date.

Hm, this appears to be a remake of a remake. The very first Prince of Persia game was intensely difficult, but was also somewhat drab. The levels changed textures a few times, but all the fights fought more-or-less the same. There was no wizard, just a much more difficult and harder to kill fighter, one of the fat varieties, that if you worked hard enough, you could knock him off a cliff.
The wizard as an enemy didn't show up til the console versions, where apparently the original final boss was deemed too boring or something.
I'd like me a portable version of the original Prince of Persia 2, and maybe a true 2d sequel. That was some good platformy goodness, there.

that game haunts me because I never finished it. I reached the princess once but then I killed her because she was acting shifty and I was told beforehand she tries to kill you.

Something like that.
If you didn't bow to the Princess, she'd kick you in the groin and the game would be over, IIRC.
And yes, I'd love to see a remake of Karateka. I think that was always better than Prince of Persia... Although playing through this one again on my PS3 makes me realize that Tomb Raider owes EVERYTHING to this game.

This remake is balls hard, they really screwed up the timing in combat making some of the later enemies almost impossible to beat. Very disappointing because the graphics are great and I liked the original a lot.

The combat seemed hard at first, but once you learned how it worked it was actually pretty easy. It was kinda goofy at the beginning when you're trying to learn it, but basically you can't start hitting 'block' until after they've started swinging your sword.
