On July 19, 2008, seismologists across the globe experienced a strange phenomenon -- the needles on their trusty seismographs began to bounce ever so slightly. Some would blame it on tiny movements in our Earth's tectonic plates. Others would attribute it to faulty equipment. Those with an active internet connection and a penchant for gaming news, however, quickly discovered the cause of the activity -- simultaneous, powerful groans, uttered in response to an image of Sonic the Hedgehog, brandishing a broadsword.
If you were among those who were hesitant towards yet another Sonic title in which the protagonist vanquishes foes, not with speed and well-timed jumps, but with weaponry, you might want to check out the debut trailer for Sonic and the Black Knight we've considerately posted after the jump. It looks quite similar to other post-Dreamcast games featuring the hyperactive hedgehog, only with, you know, a sword. We're a little puzzled by the trailer's complete lack of Martin Lawrence, but we're sure he'll make an appearance in future media for the title.

This one is the better version. By a long shot. Crush 40 remix of Arthur and the Knights of Justice? Get that outta here. I mean, it starts off well but halfway through the video... uuuuugh

Oh snap, rewatched the video and the song's not half as bad as I remember it being.

I'm quite pumped for this game. I really enjoyed Secret Rings, even thought it was far from perfect.
The addition of the sword, while kind of lame, doesn't bother me since it seems that it just takes the place of Sonic's homing attack, more or less. I'm sad to hear about the analog controls, though. I guess it might not be a huge deal, but it made Secret Rings more interesting.
The addition of Knuckles (and Tails, too, I think) kind of worries me. I hope to God that their stages are optional. The Shitty Friends, in addition to the awful controls/camera combo, are what have borderline killed Sonic after all these years.
Still, though Secret Rings was the right direction for Sonic to go. They solved the problem of the speed and bad camera...they just needed to rethink some of the mehanics. My dream Sonic game is not a game that plays like Secret Rings but takes place in a more classic Sonic setting. Going though a Green Hill Zone remake with Secret Rings gameplay would be fairly awesome.

I want the Mega Man 9 team at Capcom to make Sonic & Knuckles 2 for the VC/XBL/PSN. They know how to do retro!

Are we forgetting the best fast (by way of rocket propellant) rodent with a sword?
Where's all the sparkster love?

I'd like this game a lot more if it stared Sparkster: the Rocket Knight instead of Sonic.
