there was certainly a lot of comedy at this year's Con, though many weren't laughing...

I was there and that was the worst part about Blizzcon. I was horrified. I have a great sense of humor I should know funny when I see it. We had to leave to go play Diablo III and it was blasting this guys unfunny in the next hall right in the Diablo III line.

Terrible, just Terrible!

If you think this guy was unfunny then you need your ears examined. The crowd sure loved him.

Patton Oswalt's stand up is great (get a copy of his album "222", or if you can find a DVD of "The Comedians of Comedy"), but I can't imagine the BlizzCon audience being too into it. I mean, I know it's a generalization, but WoW nerds don't usually mix with the college hipster and "alt comedy" crowds Oswalt usually plays to.

i don't particularly enjoy the "Gamer" stereotype...

That bit is so late 80's/early 90's.

my parents assume every time i go into the basement i am playing guitar hero, when in reality i am doing homework, surfing the web, movies, TV, editing film...even when i have like 5 people over they assume we all have xboxs .

stereotypes are dumb...i just stereotyped stereotypes

There are great black comics, but the problem is black comics spend a lot of time talking about being black. Women comedians talk about being a woman, and every other "minority" comedian does the same (latino, gay, etc). And it's just not funny, not really.

That's not to say that white male comics are better inherently, but it's not at all acceptable for them to talk about being white, or male. And the comics who do "straight male comedy" are typically God-awful (Andrew Dice Clay? Sucks.).

.....I forgot what my point was. But Dane Cook does suck. What you want to do is try to listen to more comedians. I recommend some old Bill Cosby and Richard Pryor albums to start with. Great black comics, and just great comics.

Dane Cook and the word "funny" should never be used in the same sentence.

Riggs U being black has nothing to do with my opinion son....I don't find white comedians funny is all Im saying so trying to convince me other wise is kind of stupid...I don't like their style its just weak sauce to me.....I've listened to plenty of Bill Cosby and Richard Pryor thats where the good comedians now and days obviously get their style from...Richard started the whole pro black comedy thing.....But with Bill I can see what your sayin AJ hes funny without using black and white jokes so give me some comedians in the vain of him and I'll check them out..... But seriously I'd rather listen to Bernie Mac, Cedric the Entertainer, or Martin Lawrence I just like that style of comedy more....Thats all Im sayin here

Opening acts don't always suck. For example, I saw Patton Oswalt as an opening act for Tom Kenny (voice of Spongebob Squarepants).

"Patton Oswalt's stand up is great"

When I think of great stand up, I think of Carlin, Hedberg, Pryor, Pinette, and the like.

But never, EVER Patton Oswalt.

And, wow, I just tried listening to some Pinette - seriously, you think a guy making the same fat joke over and over is hilarious? You must be Canadian. I bet you love Bret Butt too.

Patton Oswalt is great and this set was gold. Maybe a little edgy for WoW fans, but I would have loved to hear that live.
