TGS 08: RE5, SFIV, White Knight, more to support PS3 Trophies

We're still recovering from our trip to TGS (in fact, we're still here in Tokyo). However, we thought you'd appreciate this list of new games which will definitely be supporting Trophies when they release on the PS3. Big first-party and third-party titles can be found on this list:

Demon's Soul
Derby Time Online
Gomibako
Quantum Theory
Resident Evil 5
Street Fighter IV
White Knight Chronicles
Yakuza 3

Don't trophies become required in 2009? Meaning Trophies must be in Final Fantasy XIII, right?

There's no confirmation of this, but there are rumors that, yes Sony WILL be requiring Trophies in all games.

Well, Microsoft require devs to put Achievements in. Hasn't done any harm to them.

But Microsoft didn't spring them on devs. If Sony hasn't announced it yet, I doubt they will be mandatory next year.

Well, I believe it was a dev that hinted that Sony was making them mandatory. It's entirely feasible that the devs have already been informed, and the public just hasn't yet.

FFXIII will have trophies because of the Xbox port. It'll have to have achievements (mandated by Microsoft), so I assume they'd use the same trigger values for the trophies as well.

These Trophies, Achievements, are the saddest thing to come into gaming this generation, even worse than microtransactions.

Suddenly, we have a group of gamers who don't play for enjoyment, but for virtual kudos. It's pretty sad that these achievement whores are so unfufilled in their lives that they must engage in virtual 'feats' to gain some self worth. The amount of times I see the ADD riddled Fenix/Duke/insert 360 fanboy gabble away about how they rented another mediocre game to gain another 400gamerpoints...it's just sad, plain sad.

Well Trophies and Achievements are meant to be incentives to playing a game, and the people who abuse that and make that a to-do list are retards who are missing the point.

It's even more sad when someone actually cares why people play certain games. If I wasn't an achievement whore I would have missed out on some solid games that I wouldn't have played like the last Naruto game and some sports games.

I wonder if it's possible to have achievements/trophies/etc. only unlock after beating the game once. Then they'd be looked on more favorably.

It was a mistranslation. It was 11 titles that hadn't previously been announced as playable.

As a PS3 owner, I'm currently happy with what has been announced so far, but the only reason I was really looking forward to TGS this year because of Sony's awesome, "Unannounced Exclusives." I'm unfamiliar with TGS's set up though. Are there large press conferences like E3? So far I've only seen stuff from Microsoft on Joystiq and nothing from Sony except for game that looked like a cross over between GoW/FF/NG (Looks great BTW) What the hell is taking so long! I'm sorry if I sound like a noob, I don't usually look at the set up unless it's like E3, but since it's taking so long to hear about those exclusives, I'm now curious.

Let me save the fanboys trouble before they write a response.

But anyway, The whole "11 unannounced games" thing was apparently a mis-translation, as Ayrkain pointed out. Sony didn't have a full-scale conference after the manner of Microsoft this time around, but TGS isn't organized in that manner, really. There are a few days like E3 (press/invite only, focused on announcements) in which you can lump all your announcements into a keynote or spread them out as you wish, then there are a few days like PAX, open to the public. Sony's just taking a lower-scale route through it all, though the reason for it is harder to see

Why Nintendo never goes to this is beyond me. The perfect chance for face-time with the Japanese public

Well, achievements, custom soundtracks and rumble were on the 360 at launch, no so with the PS3. But hopefully, all future PS3 titles will have all these features and as many past games can be patched to do so if possible. I hear GTA4 on the PS3 will get the same "achievements' as the 360 version soon.

One complaint I have of 360's Achievements are how easy some of them are to attain. Such as me getting achievement points in Soul Calibur 4 simply for creating my own custom character or changing the outfit on the game characters. Or just getting into Roman's apartment for the first time in GTA4.

Oh and getting back on topic, some 360 achievements are ridiculously easy to attain, some with no effort whatsoever. Is this supposed to be normal, to have some extremely easy achievements so you'll always have some gamerscore from a game no matter how little you play or are skilled at it?

You know, I don't support Obama. Not because I'm racists but because I live in Illinois, outside of Chicago, and understand fully what a scummy fucking cesspool of corrupt flesh politicians from that town truly are. And considering a HUGE scandal is currently blowing up in ChiTown and Obama may end up arrested here pretty soon, I guess I was right when he was facing Hillary and I said "I hope he doesn't win the nomination... I don't trust anything out of Chicago." Seriously, there hasn't been a trustworthy political infastructure in that fucking town since 1910.

Of course if he does get arrested, it will be because he's black and not because he's been exchanging jobs and political favors for heavy discounts on real estate. Just like OJs innocent, right?

But I don't trust McCain as far as I can trust me. No matter who wins, our country is fucked for another 4 years.
