Castle Crashers patch readied for certification
We finally have some news on the long-awaited patch for Castle Crashers. According to a post on developer Behemoth's site, the problems (including connectivity issues) have been "knocked out" and the team is currently verifying the updates before sending it off to Microsoft for certification.
In perhaps one of the biggest understatements, the post states, "we are aware that many of you are unhappy about the wait" but explains that they had to fix all known issues at once, as opposed to release incremental updates. Certification can take a few weeks, so don't hold out hope for seeing the patch before Halloween. There should be more than enough titles to keep your attention in the interim.

Sweet!
Maybe now I'll be able to play co-op over LIVE for more than 20 minutes at a time.
faptown @ Oct 13th 2008 7:41PM
This is a great thing. Maybe now I wont have to sign out of my profile every time I want to play the game.
Obie @ Oct 13th 2008 3:46PM
About damn time! I have not had a single 4 player game since launch. Now how about giving us some DLC for the wait, eh? ;)
ExMcCloud @ Oct 13th 2008 3:47PM
Im glad these guys are doing all the problems at once.....Great game....
Gemini Ace @ Oct 13th 2008 3:49PM
Finally, the $15 game will be complete. Now that's quality!
copa @ Oct 13th 2008 3:51PM
Thank God. I didn't buy Castle Crashers because I knew the wait would be infuriating. I'll put up my $15 as soon as the patch is available.
Haggard @ Oct 14th 2008 2:56AM
Technically you wouldn't have lost anything from buying it before then.
mernmern @ Oct 13th 2008 3:55PM
This would be sweet if I was not already done with the game.
JonFitt @ Oct 13th 2008 5:03PM
That's what I thought.
This certification process should be a lot faster for XBLA titles.
Also, what exactly is the point of certification if huge bugs still make it through?
Tiptup300 @ Oct 13th 2008 10:06PM
It's to make sure there are no exploits.
felixlighter @ Oct 13th 2008 4:02PM
I understand that their development team is tiny but this patch is long overdue. I certainly will not be buying any games developed by The Behemoth until I know for sure all bugs have been worked out. Online coop was the sole reason I bought this game and it's virtually unplayable for many. 2 months is far too long when it comes to fixing fundamental problems with a game.
I actually feel guilty because I was the one who convinced my friends to buy this game when it was launched. Hopefully they'll be willing to give it another shot when the patch is released but it's been such a hassle that I doubt they'll want to waste their time.
DemonGSides @ Oct 13th 2008 4:14PM
I think they've done a good job at making the game; its fun co-op on the couch, easy to access so newer games can play, and they're honestly listening to community feedback and doing something about the problems with the game.
Stop being a jerk, they're doing everything as fast as the small development team can do it.
felixlighter @ Oct 13th 2008 4:38PM
Honestly, I think I'm being pretty reasonable here.
Nincodedo @ Oct 13th 2008 5:01PM
So, how many games have you and a few friends made? :/
Vcize @ Oct 13th 2008 5:08PM
He was being very reasonable. A small development team is not an excuse to release a game with monumental sized bugs that costs more than the typical XBLA release and with no forewarning about said bugs before laying down your cash, and no option to return it.
The game was virtually unplayable in any form of co-op for many, and given that that was the main allure of the game, that's inexcusable even if one person made it in 3 days. That's the one thing that shouldn't have been broken.
To be honest, even if some troll came along with a post that included nothing but curse words in all caps about their displeasure they would probably be within their right to do so, given just how horrible those bugs were, so Felix's more passive response is certainly very reasonable.
felixlighter @ Oct 13th 2008 5:25PM
I have made zero games. I'm not exactly sure what that has to do with anything. Fundamental features are broken. Broken online play and game saving are not minor problems that can be addressed months after launch. I am a consumer of many products that I have never actually made but I have the right to be frustrated when one of those products is defective.
I understand that they have been working to fix the problem and I appreciate the small size of their team but at some point problems like these become unacceptable. How much slack am I supposed to give them? How long is too long? Perhaps a little more communication from the developer would have set expectations but all we've heard from The Behemoth are things like "soon" and "it's going along well."
Sesur @ Oct 13th 2008 10:54PM
Completely agree felix! After crashing my 360 so many many times, I've come to note the "featured programmer" name of Tom Fulp that I see everytime I restart the game... I will now forever question anything associated with this name.
This game is virtually unplayable on Live and the people at the behemoth should be embarassed. It's truly a shame because the game is so damn fun WHEN IT WORKS!1!!
DEEZNUTZ @ Oct 13th 2008 4:02PM
This would have helped a month ago. Too many great games between now and end of year to be droppin' $15 on an arcade title.
Drizzt519 @ Oct 13th 2008 4:22PM
This is great and all but for one little thing. For me, its a bit too late. I have played through this game solo a number of times and online co-op really wont add anything much more too it. Oh well, everyone else have fun.
rex dart @ Oct 13th 2008 4:36PM
"There should be more than enough titles to keep your attention in the interim."
Yeah...but I already paid for Castle Crashers. I'd like to kinda play it now, but I really don't want to lose ANOTHER save and start over again. But you're right; there are plenty of games coming out which probably WON'T make us wait a month or more after purchase to start playing.
Dirty @ Oct 13th 2008 4:30PM
This will be nice... if only to keep people from whining about it.
Dan CiTi @ Oct 13th 2008 4:47PM
Maybe this will get me into this game again because my save file wont get deleted every time I play.
Numerous @ Oct 13th 2008 4:53PM
Try signing out and back in to LIVE while already in the game. I have to do it everytime but it works for me.
Start game, check stats to confirm everyone is back at level 1, sign out, sign back in, check stats, go kick ass with Red Knight.
Vcize @ Oct 13th 2008 5:09PM
Indeed, red knight > *
Jakka @ Oct 13th 2008 5:33PM
It's always the Red Knights...still if his spells didn't lock people down, I'm surprised if anybody still played him.
Dirty @ Oct 13th 2008 5:34PM
Green Knight FTW!
Dillon @ Oct 13th 2008 5:03PM
Glad the developers continued to put work in on a patch like this.
I think people are ignorant of the difficulties and time involved in getting software up on a store like this, or Apple's AppStore.
Vcize @ Oct 13th 2008 5:03PM
Oh thank science. It's too bad this took so long and won't be ready until we're in the middle of the fall onslaught of games. I was looking forward to this being one of the games I played a lot to hold me over in the meantime.
It wasn't the constant disconnects that annoyed me nearly as much as having my save files get reset every couple days. There's nothing that annoys me more in videogames than having progress undone.
I have no idea how bugs THAT large made it out into production. I guess it was only two guys making the game, but you'd think they would've at least hired a couple of decently experienced play-testers to check it out.
Snowblind @ Oct 13th 2008 5:20PM
Hopefully they add in the new content free with this patch, as we alreadly know it's in the game, being forced to be seperatly for it would really be unnaceptable.
The online issues were never a problem for me though, I found it more fun on local co-op.
carg0 @ Oct 13th 2008 6:04PM
(laughing) wow...
what a way to endear yourselves to the people who afford your f*ing salaries after selling them a broken product, Behemoth.
im so looking forward to your next product.
serotoninzero @ Oct 13th 2008 6:13PM
Me and a friend both bought this game... and realized it was almost impossible to play together. I played it with some friends at home, but the wait has been so long, I've lost interest too. Maybe I'll go play it later. I know I will, the same way I go back to the old arcade style Turtles games and the like, but for now, I've got other games on my hands.
Premature ejaculation man @ Oct 13th 2008 7:09PM
This is the best XBLA game ever. Spent so many hours with friends, family or on my own (insane mode troll boss I had to do on my own ;_;).
Now that I'll be able to play online with anyone easily (Sometimes its hard sometimes its not so hard), this game should be even better.
Although, I must admit I never bought this game with the intention of online coop.
wesley johnson @ Oct 13th 2008 8:42PM
yes! now i can finally play with the guys.
Josh @ Oct 13th 2008 9:31PM
Old news is old. This is from the devblog and dated September 24th. It should be almost DONE with certification by your timeframe. I'm really looking forward to it, as playing online is dreadfully frustrating at the moment, and this game will be monumentally better (on top of it's already monumental greatness) once online runs smoothly.
Nmaster @ Oct 14th 2008 2:14AM
If this fixes the boomerang bug, I'm not going anywhere near it... ¬_____¬
