EA reveals new Space expansion for Spore, confirms Creepy and Cute pack

Expect Cute and Creepy to add around 100 new parts -- some cute and cartoonish, some monster-like. "Cute" and "creepy" is fine as a title, but at a price of $19.95 those parts had better be nauseatingly adorable and perversely horrifying. It's due on Nov. 18 and will also work for those who only own the Spore Creature Creator.
The untitled Space expansion won't arrive until spring of 2009, but it sounds substantially meatier than the parts pack. According to EA, "players' space faring creatures will be able to beam down from their spaceships to explore new planets and earn rewards for completing challenging missions" and "a new Adventure Creator will allow players to build and share online their own custom missions."
So, yeah, EA is flogging Will Wright's new creation. If this comes as a surprise, we'd kindly direct you to the Sims aisles of your local game store.

People still play this game?
InvadrZIM @ Oct 13th 2008 10:46AM
you mean...i could leave my TARDIS.....neat
phobic99 @ Oct 13th 2008 10:48AM
The milking of Spore begins...
ZaxCG2 @ Oct 13th 2008 10:54AM
Expect at least 3 "expansions" per year.
Kassu @ Oct 13th 2008 11:11AM
You heard it here first...
Haggard (Mr.ESC resurrected on a... thursday?!) @ Oct 13th 2008 11:17AM
I said it in the other article and I'll say it again - this isn't going to sell because:
The Sims and its expansion packs were attractive because the core game had high replay value. Even the 'fun stuff' packs, which are comparable to this, sold because those objects were available to use in what is a fun, addictive and never-ending gameplay system.
Who wants to play through Spore again with a couple more appendages for their monsters? It is literally spending $20 to give your character in a linear, singleplayer game a couple more customisation options.
Jon2309 @ Oct 13th 2008 2:08PM
@Haggard
It sucks for short, then.
Haggard (Mr.ESC resurrected on a... thursday?!) @ Oct 13th 2008 2:32PM
Basically.
TheBoxNinja @ Oct 13th 2008 10:56AM
Everyone remembers The Sims right? with its 800 expansions? Maxis did that, and its doing that to Spore too. Good fun...
Lurker28 @ Oct 13th 2008 3:28PM
Correction Maxis did not do that. Maxis released the first one or two expansions after that EA's team took over and released all the rest.
q3c @ Oct 13th 2008 10:56AM
I guess they will be trying to push the packs and expansions out as soon as possible, before every single person gives up on the franchise.
I played mine for 3 days and never touched it again. What a waste of money that was.
JoeTheBlow @ Oct 13th 2008 3:21PM
Hey me too, 3 days, thats it, never bothering again.
Luckily i didn't pay for it, yay for DRM.
Shmil @ Oct 13th 2008 10:56AM
Holy crap, an expansion pack already? There should be time limits on those things
Dirty @ Oct 13th 2008 11:03AM
20 bucks for "parts", Jesus. People think Braid and Castle Crashers are expensive?
You wont catch this guy drinking any milk coming from the spore teet.
Jakka @ Oct 13th 2008 11:38AM
Braid is.Castle Crashers not so much.
Anyway, this "thing" should be left out of the entire discussion in first place as paying $20 for 100 new creature parts is simply fucking retarded!
The-E @ Oct 13th 2008 11:56AM
Yeah in all honesty its kinda ripping the piss a bit(sorry its an Irish phrase, don't know if its big in the states or not) but yeah $20 usually means €20 and I could buy a used game for that....like Lair......or Haze.......dot dot dot
Vcize @ Oct 13th 2008 2:17PM
Braid was better than many full priced releases I've played. Knowing how much I enjoyed it, I would've easily found it worth $60 if that's what I had had to pay.
CC would be the same if they'd ever fix the bugs. I cannot get a game to save for more than a few days. Whenever I boot back into the game there's like a 50% chance that all my progress has been reset and my characters are all back to level 1. It's happened 3 times in the last week and I've given up on it until they patch it. Nothing like jumping online with a buddy that's been playing co-op with me the whole time and having him with his level 40 characters alongside me with my level 1 characters even though we've played the same amount of time.
Blazur @ Oct 13th 2008 11:09AM
EA strikes again!
SKI @ Oct 13th 2008 11:21AM
"players' space faring creatures will be able to beam down from their spaceships to explore new planets"
Why wasn't this there from the start? Is it really that hard?
Shmil @ Oct 13th 2008 11:23AM
be wary though, the red shirt creature that beams down is not likely to make it back
RogueJedi86 @ Oct 13th 2008 12:53PM
Pulled from release to put in an expansion. Simple.
Blazur @ Oct 13th 2008 2:34PM
Why don't you ask the CEO of EA? And while you're at it, have him explain to us the reason why the additional cell parts and plant creater were included in the original version of Spore but not activated?
Snowblind @ Oct 13th 2008 11:21AM
Not surprising in the slightest, and this along with the DRM is why I never bothered to buy Spore.
I might pick up the "Super Ultimate Deluxe II" edition in a few years, when it's cheap.
Jakka @ Oct 13th 2008 11:34AM
I'll pirate this one for the sake of it too.Probably won't even bother running Spore to see them...
The-E @ Oct 13th 2008 11:58AM
:D thats a lovely attitude to have!! but yeah...."DUH DUH!!SPORE!!DUH DUH DUH!!F**K THR SYSTEM!!F**K THE SYSTEM!!"
-What system of a down really meant!!
Toefur @ Oct 13th 2008 11:58AM
I regret blowing $50 on this game. These expansions sound like stuff that should have been in the retail game in the first place. It sure as hell could have used more content.
BigD145 @ Oct 13th 2008 12:12PM
At the very least, water civilizations and/or tree/bird civ's. These latest "expansions" should be bundled for maybe $15 total. Missions? Give me a break. That almost breaks the basic tenant of the core game.
Lianne @ Oct 13th 2008 12:21PM
I'm so disappointed in Spore...I was so hyped about it, but I really don't like the space stage. I got to badge level 10, and it just just so anticlimactic. The Grox annoyed me to the point where I stopped trying to get to the center. Now I just play it when I'm really bored and the WoW servers are down. :P
seakae @ Oct 13th 2008 12:24PM
I'll wait four years when they collect all the expansions together.
Dan @ Oct 13th 2008 1:27PM
*stares at torrents*
Yeah, I'm not paying for stuff that really should've been in the game from the start. They delayed it for ages and still managed to miss that kind of stuff out. This stuff should really be patched in for free or a small fee (not €20). So, thanks EA for making pirating seem a lot more reasonable... again...
Kevin @ Oct 13th 2008 2:33PM
So... they're incorporating LBP into Spore. Sweet.
Shmil @ Oct 13th 2008 2:37PM
This shit is DLC, not an expansion
KirbyMeister @ Oct 13th 2008 5:24PM
Creepy and cute pack is a total ripoff but I'm actually looking forward to the space expansion. But seriously this should be update content, especially the $20 parts pack. I mean, it costs more than the creature creator FFS
Kylebeans @ Oct 15th 2008 10:43PM
LOL Well, I am STILL addicted to The Sims and Spore, and these expansions are draining my income =( but I HAVE TO HAVE THEM!! LOL Well, maybe I'll just download them "at night" LOLLL!!
Stinger666 @ Oct 16th 2008 8:37AM
Why are you all against maxis they are professionals and they know what are they doing. BTW Spore is great but if it is too expensive for you, who said you have to buy it. I bought galactic edition and it's worth of 20K expansions. So you gamers who like only bloody and action games YOU ALL SUX!!!
Stinger666 @ Oct 16th 2008 8:50AM
and by action i mean sport, survival horrors, rpg-s...
rpg-s and shooters ar ok but you can't prefer any of genre because if you do you are not a gamer you are a pus*y of a man!!!
Anti @ Oct 27th 2008 10:15PM
Hey, if i have a legit copy of spore, and i want to download illegal expansion packs instead of wasting more money on this F***ING TRAIN WRECK, will the securom get me caught?
Jman650 @ Nov 9th 2008 11:19AM
I'm only buying it so i can boast to my friends.
Kelso @ Jan 3rd 2009 10:18AM
it's possible to send angry e-mails to the CEO's of big company's, if you can find out what the e-mail sructure fo their company is. for example, in the Halton Region school system all the teachers e-amils (and i mean ALL) are; last name, first initial of first name @HDSB.ca if one of you guys did some digging i bet it would be easy to send an e-mail right to the CEO of EA... instead of complaining uselessly on a random neverending discussion board. just saying.
