New games this week: Dead Space edition
Wow, see now this is a game release week. We're featuring Dead Space, because it looks incredible and we're dying to get our hands on it, but we could just have easily gone with PS3's new SOCOM game, Saint's Row 2 or Bratz: Girls Really Rock.
See the full list right after the break, just be sure to shield your wallet's eyes first. You don't want to scare the little guy.

Monkey Thing?!!? @ Oct 13th 2008 12:32PM
Hmm...
Sam and Max, finally. They've been falsely declaring release dates for too long.
Vol @ Oct 13th 2008 12:33PM
Saints Row II FTW.
Dirty @ Oct 13th 2008 12:59PM
Gamefly just shipped mine. Sweet. I should get it tomorrow, or Wednesday at the latest.
kojo87 @ Oct 13th 2008 1:25PM
im going to Walmart tomorrow to get it for PC. if they have it...
Clinton RRoD sept.3 @ Oct 13th 2008 1:35PM
i agree with you there, its gonna be fun
Haggard (Mr.ESC resurrected on a... thursday?!) @ Oct 13th 2008 2:21PM
@Rojo
First things first, the PC release date is the 20th.
Secondly, never go to Walmart looking for the latest blockbuster on PC. Buy it off amazon for cheaper AND be guaranteed they'll have it.
Kizzle @ Oct 13th 2008 4:28PM
Agreed. Goodbye GTAIV, Saint's Row 2 will be taking up my murder-simulation sandbox time from now on.
Haggard @ Oct 13th 2008 6:40PM
Ignore me, I somehow managed to miss the fact that this entire thread was about Saints Row 2. I was talking about Dead Space.
Dirty @ Oct 13th 2008 7:21PM
Damn, USPS is not running today, I wont get until maybe Thursday.... NOOOOO. Hope fully dead space ships tomorrow.
Vol @ Oct 13th 2008 7:31PM
Scratch Saints Row II.
I want Cesar Millan's Dog Whisperer!
/ sarcasm
I love the show, BTW, but I don't understand this concept of a game. Cash it in.
ExMcCloud @ Oct 13th 2008 12:34PM
Ok guys remember wat happened last week lets keep the white man outta this...And Dead space on PS3 all the way....The downloadable costume is sick!
Haggard (Mr.ESC resurrected on a... thursday?!) @ Oct 13th 2008 2:22PM
You can't keep me down!
xFenixKnightx @ Oct 13th 2008 12:35PM
Its official, the marathon of good games is upon us my friends. Rejoice! And if you're broke, go to a friends house! And if hes broke, well go to youtube and be jelous :D
Dead Space this week for me! Awesome, awesome box art!
Vidikron @ Oct 13th 2008 12:38PM
Yes, now it begins. There's a whole slew of good games coming out in the next month or so. I've already got them divided out between buy, rent, and Christmas gift suggestions :-)
ExMcCloud @ Oct 13th 2008 12:49PM
Next week is my week though...Sigh...LBP or Fable 2.....I've looked at 3 reviews for LBP its been called an Instant Classic, and Game of The year....Im pretty sure Fable isnt gonna be called an Instant Classic...lolz.....Sigh....FENIX what should I buy!
343 Guilty Fart @ Oct 13th 2008 12:54PM
Hmm, definitely excited for Dead Space but I'm not a huge fan of the box art. A hand floating in space? It's just kind of... silly. I would have preferred a shot of Isaac's armor or somethin'.
xFenixKnightx @ Oct 13th 2008 1:05PM
Not sure man I was in the LBP Beta (who wasn't lol) and I liked it but it wasn't for me I guess. I guess I was just expecting to be blown away and I came out very underwhelmed. But thats just me. I saw thoe reviews as well and its getting great scores so far.
Guilty Fart, the box art is sweet and well...different. I think they did it like that because they wanted to focus on the limb dismemberment other than the obvious generic armour shot most games do now a days.
J @ Oct 13th 2008 1:13PM
Which came first the Dead Space box art or Left 4 Dead?
xFenixKnightx @ Oct 13th 2008 1:20PM
I believe it was Dead Space. When they announced Left 4 Deads box, Dead Spaces box art had already been out. Both look great though.
http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/21/show-of-hands-left-4-dead-box-art-gets-a-thumbs-off/
343 Guilty Fart @ Oct 13th 2008 1:28PM
I guess the armor shot is a bit cliched, but maybe that's because most armor lately has been a variation of Master Chief's, with a big bulbous spaceman looking bubble helmet (see 'Haze'). At least the Dead Space armor is unique.
Boffo the $ock @ Oct 13th 2008 1:52PM
Dead Space came first. Left 4 Dead was just breathing heavy.
Levi @ Oct 13th 2008 1:57PM
Dead Space Dead Space Dead Space Dead Space Dead Space Dead Space Dead Space Dead Space Dead Space Dead Space Dead Space Dead Space Dead Space Dead Space Dead Space
BTW the 'marathon of games' totally started with Mega Man 9 :)
xFenixKnightx @ Oct 13th 2008 2:49PM
For me the marathon started with PURE and Starwars TFU. I should be getting Wipeout HD this week as well. It came out on a low videogame funds week for me :(
Next up, FAR CRY 2, then Fallout 3, then Quantom of Solace, then Gears 2!!!!!!
*Explodes!
Desert Eagle @ Oct 13th 2008 3:23PM
Hey Fenix, do ye work or something? I'm guessing you do because it seems like you get cash for *almost* every game that comes out per week. :P
Also, no games for me this week like always since I'm a tad short of cash and I'm saving for the special GOW2 edition so...
I might get this one for Christmas. I can't blame it, us Mexican gamers get our games pretty late. Hehe.
xFenixKnightx @ Oct 13th 2008 3:42PM
Desert Eagle
Hey, I'm a Mexican gamer too dude. I actually only buy the games my friends and I have agreed to buy together, and that have either MP or Co-op. The rest I Gamefly. Right now is the best time to have GF since there are so many great games coming out that its really cheaper to pay $22.00 a month than to buy them all.
Rabidkeebler @ Oct 13th 2008 3:46PM
I've got money to cover this month...but next month will be tough.
Saints Row II
Little Big Planet
Fable II
Fallout III
But November is going to be hit and miss, I'm going to be prioritizing.
Zeus.:God @ Oct 14th 2008 2:35AM
I know what I'm getting with my next paycheck! :D
The_Punisher (MR ESC NOOOOO) @ Oct 13th 2008 12:36PM
So many good games. World of Goo, Dead Space, Socom, and Saint's Row 2, all in one week. :)
Zertoss @ Oct 13th 2008 12:37PM
Blitz: The League II could be fun. Hopefully it isn't marred by load times like the first one.
Also looking forward to finally getting to play Sam & Max. Sometimes running a 64-bit OS has its drawbacks.
Dirty @ Oct 13th 2008 1:01PM
I think blitz can wait until the year end lull, looks fun though.
jacob @ Oct 13th 2008 12:37PM
hey evry1
Vidikron @ Oct 13th 2008 12:39PM
hi2u2
j.howlett @ Oct 13th 2008 12:38PM
i wonder if i can get socom with headset out of some one as a gift
Envoy @ Oct 13th 2008 12:46PM
Dead Space for teh PS3 for me! I already downloaded the black armor, for anyone that does not know you can go to PSN and DL the exclusive black colored armor.
Victus @ Oct 13th 2008 12:46PM
The highlight of the week is obviously Rock Revolution...
j.howlett @ Oct 13th 2008 12:55PM
it's obviously bratz. i mean blitz
theturtle363 @ Oct 13th 2008 12:48PM
Man I can't wait for SR2. I'm just dying to blow up some cops while riding on top of a motorcycle
ScottG13 @ Oct 13th 2008 12:48PM
Say one thing for the DS. There are a lot of games for it.
ExMcCloud @ Oct 13th 2008 12:53PM
Yep a shit load with more to come...I think October is gonna have a total of 63 games across all platforms....DS will have about half of that...lolz
TheOverlord#2 @ Oct 13th 2008 3:11PM
I'll definitely check out My Japanese Coach when I have some extra money.
ScottG13 @ Oct 13th 2008 3:22PM
I've had a DS for a couple years now, but I don't even bother paying attention to releases unless something catches a big head of buzz online. There is just too much garbage out there to wade through. I'd LOVE to have something good to play on DS.
Monkey Thing?!!? @ Oct 13th 2008 3:37PM
The list of "Something (something implying something good, no doubt) to play on my DS" is too long for joystiq, friend
Unless none of its to your tastes, or you're preoccupied by the excellent console fare, which is possible
ScottG13 @ Oct 13th 2008 3:47PM
I have all consoles and portables so unless I'm traveling, I prefer to play the consoles. I keep an eye on the release list and reviews for DS and nothing has popped up in quite a while that is clearly a ScottG13 title (Action or Action-RPG). I might take a closer look at what's out there for my next business trip.
samfish @ Oct 13th 2008 12:50PM
Just My Japanese Coach for me this week. My local Target has had a placeholder for it for 3 weeks now on the store shelves, but no game.
Monkey Thing?!!? @ Oct 13th 2008 2:26PM
Aren't you going there soon? I seem to remember you saying that at some point
Either way, just find someone who looks high-school aged and ask "Sumimasen, Eigo hanashimasu ka?" (
Most high schoolers speak at least rudimentary English.
samfish @ Oct 13th 2008 2:55PM
Yeah, tentatively in December to meet my girlfriend's family...tentatively because it's proving to be a PITA for everyone to get the same week off!
That said, I'm at least hoping this helps me learn just enough Japanese to hold at least a rudimentary conversation.
Haggard (Mr.ESC resurrected on a... thursday?!) @ Oct 13th 2008 3:14PM
Friend of mine currently has a french exchange student over - the first piece of English he taught him was "nice to meet you mofo"
Shmil @ Oct 13th 2008 12:52PM
This is why I love my October birthday
343 Guilty Fart @ Oct 13th 2008 12:56PM
I presume Dead Space doesn't have co-op play? I need more games with co-op!
Fanboy @ Oct 13th 2008 1:00PM
