Talisman canceled ... two months ago
Two months ago Capcom's Christian Svensson announced that the XBLA, PSN and PC versions of Talisman had been canceled. Well, why are we bringing this up now? Curiously, it took about two months for anyone to notice, so take from that what you will.
The last time Talisman really popped up on radar was last year when it was stated the game would be out by April of 2008. Svensson notes on the Capcom site that it was no longer cost effective to continue with the project after a "misfire" at the start and the rights have reverted back to Games Workshop.

This is the first I've heard of the game

Wow, wasn't this announced, like, two years ago? I totally forgot about it.

Fourthed.
Nooooooooo.
I had the first version of this board game and it was easily the most popular board game amongst my friends.
Simple, classic, easy to play RPG.

I've been waiting and waiting for this game! Epic Argh!

What is it, when was it announced, and should I even bother?

This makes me really sad. Talisman is one of the best adventure boardgames out there. I highly, HIGHLY recommend it. It's like a mini-RPG boardgame where you select a character and then travel around adventuring and leveling up. You gather gear, get followers, and eventually try to slay the dragon. It has 5 expansions that I know of that make this an insanely fun game to play with friends. I was really looking forward to this game. I'd rather another developer take a crack at it though than have a botched version come out.

I actually was looking forward to this game, and wondered where it had disappeared to.
I remember having a blast playing the board game when I was young, so I'm disappointed it was canceled. Maybe I'm romanticizing memories of my youth...
Still, better it be canceled than it be crappy. Hopefully Games Workshop will do something with it down the line.

Wow, this sucks.
Last year at GenCon, they released a limited amount of new Talisman board games, and I managed to snag a copy (one of only 50 sold that day), and inside they had an insert that said "coming soon to XBLA and PSN", and I'd been looking forward to it ever since.
This news makes me a Saaaaaaaad Pandaaa.
Also, I may have outted myself as a tremendous dork admitting to GenCon attendance and rushing for a limited edition of Talisman... oh well.

Very disappointed to hear this. I looked for news on this game on capcoms site about a month ago and saw nothing so I don't know where the cancellation announcement was. I thought this game would be cheap and easy to make. It was a fun board game rpg-style. Characters fought creatures got loot and advanced in power until one could claim a crown of power in the center of the board and kill the other players.
I really can't understand why there are not more board games on XBLA/PSN. Wouldn't they be pretty cheap and easy to make since graphics don't need to be too intense.

I played this game for the first time recently! The first version, it was great, my friend had all the expansions to it like the dungeon and timescape! The game lasted about six hours, and there was a power cut, take that modern games consoles! Hope this comes out eventually.
FSK405K @ Oct 13th 2008 5:50PM
So this is like HeroQuest?
t_m @ Oct 14th 2008 12:17AM
I think this has been around since well before heroquest. right? And i seem to remember it having cards for loads of different eras. Space Marine vs Witch Elf. (was that the timescape espansion?)
Haven't played it for decades, and never heard about an XBLA version... but i'd have thought it would have rocked.

Moar Agricola, plz.

That's okay: Talisman was probably the least exciting of Games Workshop's properties. Speaking of which, I thought THQ did all of Games Workshop's video games; this says Capcom was working on Talisman.
