Best Buy's Gaming Invasion this weekend in Toronto
Although it is a general gaming event, the PlayStation Blog pointed the way to Best Buy's Gaming Invasion '08 taking place this weekend in Toronto, Canada. The nice thing about the event is that it appears to be open to the general public and allows gamers to get their Cheetos-encrusted mitts on some of this year's most anticipated titles like Gears 2, Resistance 2, LBP, Mirror's Edge and many more.
With major first- and third-party support at the Best Buy event it seems like it's something big. This is apparently the third year of Best Buy's Gaming Invasion, so any Canadians who can speak to how well the event is organized should kindly feel free to leave a comment as a heads-up.*
*Don't say it's horrible just so you can have all the games to yourself. 30 Helens agree: That's not nice.

Way to do it on the weekend when I have stacks of homework and studying!
But I go to school right next to this Best Buy so I'll check it out on Friday.

So what your saying is that they should do it during the week, when you have even more tests and quizzes?
Superstar90 @ Oct 14th 2008 9:15PM
No, because I can go there and back literally in 5 minutes. So even if I have 30 minutes of break, I can hang out there for like 25 minutes and be on time for class. Most days I have at least 1 hour, some days I have 2 hours free.

Read the flyer right underneath Yonge-Dundas--it's clearly in Square, Toronto. ;)

I awlays find it funny that Americans refer to Toronto (or any canadian location) by saying "Toronto, Canada" As if you could get confused as to where they are refering if you said Toronto, Ontario.
Thats like me saying, coming soon to San Francisco, USA.

007: You mean Americans who don't live near the Canadian border, or haven't yet for any significant length of time. I lived a little way south of Niagara Falls-- both of them-- while I was growing up. Fond memories of Ontario, and Toronto in particular.

I went the last couple years. It's worth going to if you're in the GTA. Lineups usually aren't that bad. (10 mins for the most popular game, no wait time for some of the others)
Some good giveaways (ie. last year - approx. 20 copies of Guitar Hero 2: Bundle, 20 or 30 other gaming giveaways - just for showing up)
Also, last year had a pretty decent coupon book for $10 off a game, $100 off an HDTV, etc. etc. Hope they have it again this year!
Momer @ Oct 14th 2008 4:52PM
I'm pretty certain Fallout 3 isn't going to be there. Check the games list.
Momer @ Oct 14th 2008 6:19PM
Umm... No Mirror's Edge either, and you may want to add Far Cry 2 which will be there.
Vcize @ Oct 14th 2008 4:55PM
Toronto, eh?
343 Guilty Fart @ Oct 14th 2008 5:05PM
Does that flyer say 'Young Dudes'?
Tango Charlie @ Oct 14th 2008 5:10PM
Well spotted! Much the same way Canadians spell "color" as "colour" and "neighbor" as "neighbour", we spell "young dudes" as "yonge dundas".
AwesomeTown @ Oct 14th 2008 5:12PM
If it did, that would be (Alladin) inSane. GET IT?
RESISTANCE @ Oct 14th 2008 5:13PM
LMAO Yonge is a street in Ontario.
Momer @ Oct 14th 2008 6:21PM
I went last year, it was pretty sweet. Got to play Halo 3 a few weeks early and they were giving out shirts to top players. A lot of good coupons, demo discs, small swag etc. They actually tried to give out tickets to High School Musical or something like that and no one wanted them...>.
Thierry @ Oct 14th 2008 6:57PM
Sweet, I'll be there for sure.
PeterBeck @ Oct 14th 2008 9:22PM
Dundas square?
Bleh, that place is usually plagued with street preachers, ladies selling stickers, and UFO cults (okay, not all the time, but those are my personal highlights).
Woulda been nice if they picked an indoor spot, but still, it's nice to get something.

And Best Buy thinks they need to include a mario because???
Sarita 102108 theBIGday @ Oct 15th 2008 3:04AM
I can't go, it really sucks, LMAO about high school musical tickets!!! lol really who would buy hsm tickets anyway? Canada is sooooo lucky!
RonaldoMoon @ Oct 15th 2008 9:46AM
All stories RE:Canada must have at least one 'Kids in the Hall' reference. +1 to Joystiq for maintaining the quota.
Raimond @ Oct 15th 2008 10:13AM
I went last year. It was really well done.
Hopefully this time I win something though! :p
I'll be filming the event like I last year and posting it on my gametrailers blog:

I attended last night and it was great, mobile was pretty entertaining right in the centre of the place while everyone played around the stage. The organization of the event was pretty good although I would have like to see more attention paid to little big planet and far cry 2. Little big planet had its own tent but it was kind of secluded and far cry was put in the far corner near the older games. Gears 2 and Resistance 2 were up in the front accompanied by gh:world tour and RB2. Atmosphere was pleasent and a bit small for the audience expected to come to the event.
Raimond @ Oct 24th 2008 10:46AM
ya it was awesome!
I posted up all my vids... even some LEAKS!
