Konami: 'We're actively looking' into MGS4 on Xbox 360
And here you thought we'd escaped TGS without this rumorang whizzing by again. Oh no, we most certainly did not (duck!). "We're actively looking into a [Metal Gear Solid 4] release for the Xbox 360," a Konami rep told Japanese investment research firm Morningstar for a TGS report published today (in Japanese). Feel free to take that as "no duh" or a renewed glimmer of hope -- Morningstar's report does not include further evidence that Konami is any closer to bringing a MGS4 port to Xbox 360 than when the rumor first appeared ... two years ago!
As IGN notes, the key dilemma is in the discs. How to transfer all that optimized Blu-ray data? And, where to put it?

Compressing it would be a good start.
Rob Accomando @ Oct 14th 2008 6:22PM
yep, just like nearly all games released on DVD-9
Marty @ Oct 14th 2008 6:35PM
You make that sound like it's a bad thing.
sk8monroe81 @ Oct 14th 2008 6:47PM
gotta love all those ps3 fanboys/gals that GUARANTEED that tekken 6 and final fantasy and MGS4 would never come to the 360..
lol..
only problem for the sony fans who dont have a wii or 360 is that the ps3 isnt getting any ms game studio owned games anytime soon.
ps3 MGS4 sales were probably lower than konami expected... no where near the halo 3 sales figures.
xFenixKnightx @ Oct 14th 2008 6:48PM
Of course compressing it would be a good start, you know, like ALL games that are on 360 already. What was your point again?
I hope this really eventually comes over. So far, MGS4 is my GOTY. Who knows if that will stay that way what with Gears2 being just around the bend :P but man, is that a masterpeice of a game right there.
BTW, if this is true then THIS would be the final straw to all PS3fanboys. The megaton of all megatons.
Hyams @ Oct 14th 2008 6:48PM
MGS4 is selling better than MGS3 did, so it can't have been that much of a dissapointment.
Maverick Saturn @ Oct 14th 2008 6:57PM
Lol, obviously people didn't buy PS3 with the intention of getting MS owned games, thats silly. If PS3 fanboys really gave a rats ass about Halo, they would buy a 360.
MGS and Tekken don't belong to Sony like Bioshock and Dead Rising don't belong to MS, so the devs can choose to swap whenever they feel like it. Seeing as Sony hasn't coughed up the cash to keep anything exclusive, devs have no choice but to got multiplat, and even MS won't be able to buy out all the new best games, only so much as the DLC, it will become too much of a hassle, unless they see something in particular they like.
Both Sony and MS are concentrating on thier in-house games now, so Sony fanboys can at least stay happy that any Sony games they get will always be on PS3 and MS fanboys can be certain any MS games will always be on 360.
People need to start thinking that way now, no third party game belongs to a company, If Sony cared that much, they would have secured rights to the games yonks ago like MS did for Gears, but right now they are more concerned with thier in-house games, and I don't blame them, lets just hope those in-house games kick ass on both sides so that gamers get what they pay for.
Heres to MAG, HALO, God of War and the sorts :D
Replica23 @ Oct 14th 2008 7:21PM
"only problem for the sony fans who dont have a wii or 360 is that the ps3 isnt getting any ms game studio owned games anytime soon."
Are you even thinking about what you are typing, or is your ass doing all the writing for you? No Sony owned franchise has showed up on the 360. Somewhere along the way too many people fell off the Playstation bandwagon and hit their heads, because according to them 3rd party titles constitute Sony owned franchises.
kinshadow @ Oct 14th 2008 7:28PM
@Fenix "What was your point again?"
My point was that I was being a smart ass.
The whole "How to transfer all that optimized Blu-ray data? And, where to put it?" is a fairly silly comment. With today's compression tech, I'd wager that they can can probably squeeze the game onto a DVD-9 and almost none would be able to see any difference. The only thing that would suffer at all is the cut scenes, and that impact will most likely be quite minor.
modified @ Oct 14th 2008 7:34PM
After the dashboard upgrade you should be able to install additional discs and have no need to swap.
Titanium_Orchid @ Oct 14th 2008 7:37PM
You would still need to swap discs, as the Xbox requires the disc in the DVD tray for authentication.
ExMcCloud @ Oct 14th 2008 8:33PM
MGS4 was the best movie I ever played......I think there was a gae in there to.....Good none the less but still not GOTY and I could care less if it switches systems I doubt Koonami made the whole 100 million dollars of development and 50 million from advertising bak yet
cc123 @ Oct 14th 2008 8:48PM
@ExMcCloud
"I doubt Koonami made the whole 100 million dollars of development and 50 million from advertising bak yet"
Are you mixing up GTAIV with MGS4? Even so, where are you getting those numbers?
El Capitaine @ Oct 14th 2008 9:26PM
"You would still need to swap discs, as the Xbox requires the disc in the DVD tray for authentication"
Yes. However, perhaps they could make authentication code identical for all of the discs. Therefore, you still need one of the discs in the drive, but it simply doesn't matter which one.
However, because this causes the problem that if there are 4 discs, 4 people can buy one game, perhaps loading ANY multi-disc game from HDD requires disc ONE in the drive to authenticate, but will then run any disc in the set.
Disc authentication will obviously need to be there. However, in this case disc authentication will make sure you own the game, but will add some convenience to the end-user. Just my ideas...
El Capitaine @ Oct 14th 2008 9:36PM
I forgot to mention it in my above post, but I LOVE that screen...
Huh? Oh wait! We're on a PS3 System! It's a Blu-Ray Disc. Dual-layered too - no need to swap. Now simply stand by as another gigabyte or two is added to your hard-drive. No worries though! Even though this will take a few minutes, you don't have to get up like you would with a disc-swap.
Yeah, no thanks. Not much of a plus, anyway. Disc swaps will be fine.
Sam @ Oct 14th 2008 9:46PM
yeah, I honestly think that MGS4 took up so much BluRay space because it's probably raw and uncompressed, while this is nice, it would have been nicer to have the Japanese audio track shipped with the game.
anonim1979 @ Oct 14th 2008 10:54PM
BR with MGS4 is ~30GB
http://i32.tinypic.com/2b1574.jpg
It take 30GB because:
THERE IS MGO on disc.
There is system update (0,25GB)
There are (probably) repeated files for speed up loading/installs/uncompressed audio data/etc.
IF X360 will come out I hope , that like practically all multiplatform games X360 will be superior to PS3 one:
For a start how about making it HD game and not SUB-HD?
Metal Gear Solid 4 - 1024x768 = 786,432 pixels (SUB-HD)
(Full 720p - 1280x720 = 921,600 pixels)

@anonim1979
Wow, your using Linux?! hot
waves @ Oct 15th 2008 12:10AM
The way MGS4 is structured, it would lend itself quite well to disc swapping. The PS3 made you wait for 2-5 minutes for installation between acts, you may as well just swap discs at that point.
I have to say that I was kind of let down by MGS 4. IMO 3 was the high point of the series (which a lot of people missed after being turned off by 2). If they are going to make another one, I really hope they consider making it back in the 1960s-70s with the original snake. He was so badass, and there weren't any nanomachines (which were used like 'get out of plot hole free' cards by the end of 4).
bigsofty @ Oct 16th 2008 4:48AM
PLEASE GOD NO...! let the PS3 have this mass pre-rendered CGI lump of mediocre...
Lionbacker @ Oct 14th 2008 6:21PM
I'm not surprised. It's actually a good thing for everyone. More people get to play the game.
Oh wait, it's not really good for fanboys, is it.
But they don't really count as people, do they.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Oct 14th 2008 6:23PM
Nope. They are just unpleasant things gamers have to deal with.
Dan CiTi @ Oct 14th 2008 7:27PM
It will go from 360 fanboys saying it's a movie to saying it's the second coming.
offday @ Oct 14th 2008 7:30PM
Um dan. In your attempts to fit into the "fanboys are lame" crowd, you totally just made a fanboy comment. Good job.
Dan CiTi @ Oct 14th 2008 7:38PM
No shit sherlock. I'm an MGS fanboy. MGS4's debriefing made me hate Konami, MGS4, and MGO. It was a fucking disgrace that ruined a perfectly good game. After that I became nit-picky. Lack of soldiers in Act 4, Act 5 having no depth/little gameplay, no FAMAS, Big Boss camo NOT EVEN BEING BIG BOSS, ITS FUCKING SOLIDUS.
I could go on and on. If it comes out on 360 it'll have achievements and run worse(unless they completely redo the engine for 360, by that time the game could be irrelevent). Whoop-dee-doo. I bet MGO will still be dumb, unbalanced, and have overpriced expansions. at least MGO has server lists instead of being gimped by "lolmatchmaking"...oh wait...they don't give hosts enough power.
Doug @ May 24th 2009 3:23PM
Well, if it does go on the 360, this will be my first time playing the game. I think it looks great.
jimmygotsmack @ Oct 14th 2008 11:38PM
@Dan CiTi
Good work with the spoilers, if i hadn't have already beaten it I would have been pissed.
but hey, I totally didn't see that coming, when Marle kills snake, and you spend the rest of the game playing a Raiden again. The biggest twist for me though is when you find out Otacon is actually a spy-hacker from the future, the patriots sent back in time to stop Marle from merging with the patriots computer AI and becoming Shodan, which leads up to System Shock 1.
Roto13 @ Oct 15th 2008 12:19AM
It's not really all that good, no. Yes, it's nice to be able to play a game on the console you own, but console exclusive games are good for the competition between consoles, and I think in the end the competition is a lot better for gamers.
ahsayuninew @ Oct 14th 2008 6:21PM
I'll be slightly suprised if this turns into MGS4 actually coming out on 360.
But only slightly.
Premature ejaculation man @ Oct 14th 2008 6:52PM
If it does, they have at least one guaranteed sale...
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Oct 14th 2008 6:22PM
It really is no surprise that Konami is thinking this way. Either 360 will be getting MGS4:*something subtitle* or the next Metal Gear game will be multiplatform. Either way, I highly doubt Konami would continue to make the series exclusive to the ps3.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Oct 14th 2008 6:24PM
Or a sony console I mean.
FOXHOUND @ Oct 14th 2008 11:09PM
I'd prefer an original MG(or MGS)for the X360 than a port. :\
Draken Stark @ Oct 15th 2008 5:15AM
*cough* MGS2 Xbox/PC *cough*
BIGGEN (LIVE-PSN: BIGGEN1103) @ Oct 16th 2008 8:18AM
i hope they do port it, cause the game is fun as hell. i never got into the online aspect cause i rented it, but 360 only owners are missing a great game with this one. to spin that another way, ps3 only owners are missing out with gears. halo3, not so much.
MAN MAN @ Oct 14th 2008 6:24PM
First .. PS3 is a washed up system.
you punks got the ps3 to have NO advantage over the 360.. Sad sad sad.
lmao. $199 360 + $20 hdd = $220 xbox 360 that does everything the $400 ps3 does with games. You say
Blu ray I say Net flixx.!
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Oct 14th 2008 6:24PM
Do we really need to start a flame war already? Sheesh.
Lionbacker @ Oct 14th 2008 6:25PM
The fact that you may be able to vote makes me cry inside.
Lionbacker @ Oct 14th 2008 6:25PM
Ooh, sorry vegeta, that was directed at man man.
Jacksons @ Oct 14th 2008 6:26PM
...and I say pathetic example of a human. Seriously, go away.
BPMOmega [gamertag] @ Oct 14th 2008 6:30PM

playwhutyalike @ Oct 14th 2008 6:43PM
Yaaawwwwnnnn.
DangerMouse @ Oct 14th 2008 6:47PM
You're backing up your claim with news that's barely 24 hours old. Nice.
Anyway, i think it's great that more people get to play it. It's a great game. The PS3 is far from washed up. Even Valve, PS3 fanboy's arch-nemesis, stated that they're reconsidering their stance on developing for the ps3 due to its increasing popularity.
SuckItTrebek @ Oct 14th 2008 6:51PM
Funny, I don't seem to see tons of classic PS1 and PS2 games available for the 360 anywhere....and could you post a link to that Netflix thing you're talking about? I'd LOVE to have 1080P movies on my screen without having to buy a BluRay player.
SexyKittyKat2U @ Oct 14th 2008 6:51PM
PREACH IT!
All the sony haters can't stand the fact the ps3 is nothing but a WASTE of money.
Titanium_Orchid @ Oct 14th 2008 6:54PM
Damn, how many accounts have you made?
Vidikron @ Oct 14th 2008 7:16PM
"All the sony haters can't stand the fact the ps3 is nothing but a WASTE of money."
That doesn't even really make sense.
Boger @ Oct 14th 2008 7:28PM
I have both and I've been streaming Netflix to my PS3 for about 8 months. And I still have Blu-ray.
Dan CiTi @ Oct 14th 2008 7:30PM
Nice job making every 360 owner look like a douchebag.
Thanks. The PS3 is a great system, and is only getting better every month.
The thing the 360 has over the PS3 is modding. If the the PS3 had CFW like the PSP, it would be the best console bar none.
Foetoid @ Oct 14th 2008 7:56PM
WII FTW!
