Fo' rizzle, there be nothin' really wrong with
Saints Row 2. Actually, it's quite amusing to read through the reviews of THQ's
great holiday hope. The critics pretty much say that
SR2 is great fun, but doesn't push the sandbox genre forward. With
GTA's realistic turn in its
fourth installment,
SR2 is apparently a nice over-the-top alternative for fans of the genre. Not that it
ever claimed to be anything else.
- EuroGamer (90/100): "Saints Row 2 is one of the most ridiculous and enjoyable games of the year. Some will dismiss it as GTA's "gangsta" offshoot, but they're missing the point; with its immense scope, fun physics and focus on entertainment over realism or grit, Saints Row is what GTA would have become if Rockstar North had followed Vice City to its pimpin' conclusion."
- IGN (82/100): "Saints Row 2 isn't a GTA killer, but it's a GTA alternative. Players who enjoyed the action-packed moments of GTA will have an absolute blast with Saints Row 2. It's tough not to hate on the slightly lacking production values, but when you see the rest of the game it actually makes a bit more sense. The technical shortcomings are the only truly bad part of Saints Row 2, but the core gameplay experience is extremely enjoyable."
- Gamespot (80/100): "Saints Row 2 may not offer a sizable leap in the sandbox genre, but that doesn't diminish its fun. From beginning to end, this is one of the most fun urban chaos games out there. The controls are so tight and the combat so satisfying, you'll frequently find yourself getting distracted from the campaign as you cause terror all over the city. With great cooperative integration, tons of unique activities, and a super cool zombie mode, Saints Row 2 will keep you happily creating havoc for a long time."
- Gaming Nexus (78/100):"After all's said and done, there's no singular powerful experience for you to store away in your Gaming's Greatest Moments memory bank. And so, in that respect, Saints Row 2 aims to be nothing more or less than a popcorn flick, and succeeds winningly as nothing more or less than a popcorn flick."

Anyone know when this hits PC?
This game looks awesome.
Haggard @ Oct 14th 2008 5:18PM
November 10th in North America according to wiki.
Amazon.co.uk shows it as 7th November for Europe.
Travis @ Oct 14th 2008 3:52PM
day one purchase for me...day two trade in...
this game blows...
Whats the deal with the 10 minute wait to play an online game?
The driving is lame too..
only redeeming factor is the create a character - and the "insane" facial expression
JeffyP00 @ Oct 14th 2008 4:22PM
WTF, didn't it just drop today? Maybe you're seeing 10 min wait times because most of us people with lives are still at work and haven't picked up the game yet.
Slayer @ Oct 14th 2008 4:43PM
@JeffyP00
Well, it is his opinion. Even though he claims there is a 10 minute wait to play online fully knowing he could have just joined another game, or as you mentioned, most people could still be at work. Oh hell, who am I kidding. Travis, just shut up.
Bigfoot @ Oct 14th 2008 4:46PM
Maybe there is a long wait because people are too busy playing the single-player modes?
JeffyP00 @ Oct 14th 2008 4:50PM
I mean if Travis just doesn't like the game, that's fine. I can't tell someone their personal taste is wrong...
I'm just saying its kind of ridiculous to be bitching about online wait times already, when I can still count the number of hours the game has been for sale on my fingers.
Metal Geario 360 @ Oct 14th 2008 5:35PM
LOL i hear ya Travis
I dont know, pimps and gold teeth, drinking 40oz...
just dont humor me, when i play it, if it has a "Dont be a Menace while drinking juice in the hood" feel, ok then...
Kizzle @ Oct 15th 2008 9:58AM
Slayer - I'm not afraid to tell Travis his opinion sucks, because it does.
Fuck off, Travis. You haven't even played the game, stop pretending. Probably another insecure GTAIV fan.
Dirty @ Oct 14th 2008 3:54PM
Wow a 90... hope this shows up in my mail box today.
Shagittarius @ Oct 14th 2008 3:55PM
Passing, and I'm going to blame it all on the offensive image for the above article.

yeah, allergies keep me from eating ferro roche chocolates too
tmacairjordan87 @ Oct 14th 2008 4:02PM
I saw a video on youtube yesterday called falcon punch. The guy put a no gravity cheat in and super strength or something on his guy and every person he punched went flying hundreds of feet. That alone convinced me to want this game, and it just makes me sigh even more that GTA 4 should have had shit like that.
Dr. Stabbingworth @ Oct 14th 2008 4:15PM
GTA4 was too much like real life. I have a cell phone IRL, and I don't like answering it. Why would I want to answer a virtual cell phone?
And the controls were super clunky. Saints Row 2 should do the trick.
WRE @ Oct 14th 2008 4:35PM
I still love GTA4, but I just bought Saints Row 2. I'll probably play later tonight.
Vcize @ Oct 14th 2008 4:39PM
Are you sure he wasn't just playing Crackdown?

fanboys will be fanboys...
this game still blows, ladies.
Markez @ Oct 14th 2008 7:57PM
Wow that's a pretty cool video, this looks like it'll be fun. GTAIV ended up just boring the hell out of me.
Hey Travis, just so you know finishing off a one-liner with 'ladies' is one of the most clear cut signs of being a dbag there is.
It is also tends to cue up the sentiment of "oh hell, it's that twat, Travis, again. Hopefully he'll leave soon" out of just about anybody, likely as well as people you consider friends.
theturtle363 @ Oct 14th 2008 4:04PM
Good to hear, I wasn't expecting 10/10s across the board but I'm happy about this, I can't wait to pick it up.
theturtle363 @ Oct 14th 2008 6:50PM
wow, I'm playing it now, and does anyone feel like the graphics got worse? I was looking at the suits in one store and they didnt look right at all, they were like blocks compared to the way the last games clothes actually fitted on your character.
Markez @ Oct 14th 2008 7:59PM
Holy downgradedgrafixinthesecondsaintsrowgame Turtleman!
I never actually played the first one, but when I was looking through a number of video reviews and different footage the actual graphics were pretty unimpressive. I might be in error, but I seemed to recall a trailer they put out awhile ago where they looked better.
quasebrasileiro @ Oct 14th 2008 9:37PM
I picked up an 8 dollar copy of SR1 last week, having never played it before. I couldn't believe how bad the graphics were. I figured it was a fairly early "this gen." release and that SR2 would show a vast improvement. Hard to believe that wasn't at the top of the developers "to improve upon" list for SR2.
giantenemycrab @ Oct 14th 2008 4:17PM
Picked it up this morning. It be pimpin' yo.
uh-oh polio @ Oct 14th 2008 4:20PM
Theres to many way better games coming out soon to worry about picking this up. Bad timing i suppose.
JeffyP00 @ Oct 14th 2008 4:24PM
I'm planning on getting Tales of Vesperia and Dead Space, so I'm considering this as my third title for the Toys R Us Three-for-Two sale, as my other, more anticipated titles won't be released until the sale is over...
WRE @ Oct 14th 2008 4:34PM
If you buy 2 $60 games that you don't want you can go back and exchange them. I did it earlier today. ; )
JeffyP00 @ Oct 14th 2008 4:39PM
Sweet! I might do that then and exchange for Fable 2 later. I'll be getting Fallout on PC.. Arghh so many games to play!!! What a great end of year for gamers!
Vcize @ Oct 14th 2008 4:43PM
Well, you could last time at least, people say they may be cracking down on that this time though.
Also, if you're interested in Infinite Undiscovery it seems that some people over on CAG are saying there's a weird glitch in the system with it. It's dropped in price to $39.99, and only charges you as $39.99, but for some reason the computer still thinks it's $60 for this deal. This means that you can get a $60 game for free, even though you're only paying $40 for one of the first 2 (usually the cheapest is supposed to be free).
Titanium_Orchid @ Oct 14th 2008 4:35PM
Zombie mode? Why did nobody tell me there was a zombie mode?
Dirty @ Oct 14th 2008 5:19PM
Guess what.... it has a zombie mode!
Titanium_Orchid @ Oct 14th 2008 5:30PM
ZomBiE MoDe!!!!
ogvor @ Oct 14th 2008 11:18PM
Exactly what I was thinking! Consider my interest piqued.
Just Mr ESC. @ Oct 15th 2008 12:07PM
What a Zombie mode?
If I had knew that I would've pre-ordered this game a while back.
Zombies = Awesome.
brother.rope @ Oct 14th 2008 4:52PM
Not bad.
I think it's a good game, very fun, story is well done, voice acting is perfect and so much to do! Online is a blast too :)
Overall, I think it's more fun than GTAIV was.
JoeTheBlow @ Oct 14th 2008 5:06PM
Hey Joystiq, you may as well do the Metareview of LittleBigPlanet, loads of sites are spooging out their reviews early.
Oooh, my, those scores, can't wait for it!
Saints row will have to wait i'm afraid, would have been nice during the summer.
Dave @ Oct 14th 2008 5:21PM
Just bought this... it's pretty great. I wish there were trophies... oh well.
erik.gomez09 @ Oct 14th 2008 5:45PM
WTF?! how is eurogamer gonna narc on Dead Space but give this masterpiece of crap a better score?! frackin' commies!
Popfrogs @ Oct 14th 2008 5:59PM
Eurogamer is retarded. If they gave this game 90/100 which is actually 9/10 on their scale, then they rate it the same as LittleBigPlanet.
Do I need to say more?
Premature ejaculation man @ Oct 14th 2008 6:12PM
Just because you disagree with their opinions, doesn't mean yours is more right than theirs.
Seriously, whats wrong with?
Conor @ Oct 14th 2008 6:29PM
Wow,I didn't expect the game to be received so well.
The next 3 months are really annoying, there's simply too many good games I won't get a chance to play with everything else coming out.
Andrew @ Oct 15th 2008 3:09AM
can anyone tell me what the system req's are plz
Kizzle @ Oct 15th 2008 9:58AM
Once again, game reviewers are afraid to give this the score it deserves - meaning higher that what is put in the article here - since they don't want to give "a ripoff" a higher score than the source material.
This game is much, much more fun than GTA4. If the reviewers are too stubborn to admit it, then fuck 'em.
